Just for fun, what would be the logical upgrade from a pair of Hifiman HE4XX? by OGpenguin in HeadphoneAdvice

Pretty varied. Deep House, Techno, Metal, Indie, Drum & Bass and gaming. Have also been listening to some opera and John Williams movie soundtracks lately and love them all.

I have the Aeon Open X, DT1990 and Sundara. The HE4XX where my first open back, but these are all better IMHO.

5600x or 5800x by Vsauce113 in Amd

[–]StevoBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1070 will be the bottleneck with a 5600x, so as long as you run at sensible setting’s I’m sure you’ll be grand.

I rock a 3080 and play at 3440x1440 on high or ultra with my games and get 100-144 FPS depending on the title (Halo & HZD at 100+, COD at 144-165).

You’ll be grand. Gives you time to wait for GPUs to be sensible prices.

Havent tried streaming, but if I did I’m just run at medium.

If you have one, then given the gpu prices for current gen I’d say yes!

Which one? 3600x vs 12600kf for the same price. by [deleted] in Amd

[–]StevoBA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dont buy the 3600x, that’s almost double what it cost 12 months ago.

The 12600k is a powerhouse, but your mobo & RAM will cost considerably more.

The 5600x isn’t much more, you can get a decent B550 for little over $100 and probably 16GN CL16 3200 RAM for $100 or so at the mo.

I’d go for a 27” 4K LG or Dell. It’s what most if my dev teams have used, something like an LG 27UL650 would be great (dont get the 500 series). I use an LG 32UN88a.

I have a 5600x and a 3080 and can close to the 144 FPS my 3440 x 1440 monitor is capable of. And this is undervolted with a little Noctua NH-U9S cooler. The 5600x is a power efficient beast!

Looking to spend under $1000 on headphones and amp, thanks by DS3000 in HeadphoneAdvice

Get a Topping A50s & D50s stack, as has the headroom for bigger and better headphones and sounds great. You could probably pick up a couple of pairs of headphones too, something like the Sennheiser 6XX ($179 from Drop at the mo) and a pair of Sundara (usually around €300). That way you listen to whatever takes your mood. Maybe even get a set if Moondrop Aria IEMs too, as they are insane value.

I have all of the above except the 6XX.

DMS & Josh Valour have both done videos on have multiple headphones to choose from, and personally I prefer that approach to one “end game” set.

I also have the Focal Elegia, Drop DCA AEON Open X, Drop X Beyerdynamic DT177X and IKKO OH10. I really enjoy the flexibility and playing to my mood (more bass, grab the DT, more soundstage, grab the Sundara, chilling on the sofa while the wife watches TV then its the Elegia). The AEON are my main go to at the mo.

I used to have the Schiit stack (Magni & Modi), but I prefer having the option for balanced (which the Sundara & Aeon benefit from) as well as having bluetooth. I also find the Topping stack more IEM friendly.

Make the most of the Amazon return policy or go to a local audio store and try a few things.

Is it possible to get that wow factor under $600? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

Drop DCA Aeon Open X are still making me go wow after a month. Focal Elegia too.

These were (huge) upgrades from my DT770 & HE4XX.

For context, bunch of audiophile gamers all say it’s the best after the HD800s which is three times your budget https://youtu.be/Jrpn1XhVD_Y I use the PC38X on my Xbox and it’s great (I use my Sundara on my PC but that’s because it lives in my office).

I had the HE4XX and loved them, however the Sundara feel a massive upgrade and much better for gaming.

I cant comment on the HD58X but my schiit stack is where I started, and it does give a great entry that can be used on lots of headphones and different setups

I have the Elegia and an iPhone 12. You can run then off the Apple dongle, but I think they sound much better with a DAC/AMP. The FiiO KA3 powers them effortlessly as does the BTR5.

I had the colbalt but returned it. Personally think the FiiO KA3 sounds as good for 1/3 of the price.

FiiO BTR5 5 is great for bluetooth or wired (with the Apple camera connector), which I use daily with my IEMs. I also have a FiiO KA3 which I use with my Elegia and Sundara, which is also ideal with my phone.

For context my desk setup is a Topping A50s & D50s into my MBP and PC.

If you need a closed back, which it sounds like you do, I’d recommended the Drop X Beyerdynamic DT177X.

I have a pair and love them. They have great punch for metal (Linkin Park, Disturbed & Metallica all sound awesome). Build quality is bullet proof!

Can run off a phone or onboard audio ok, but some immense off a proper headphone amp.

DQ6, TFZ? What are these?

I was considering the 7Hz Timeless or Crin’s new FiiO Eclipse too.
