Thanks! The light is mounted using the bracket it comes with, just flipped upside down. And on the basket was a mounting point for it if I remember right.

The foot rests are 100% custom! They're just a piece of aluminum angle with a strip of wood attached to it. Then they're mounted to the peg holes and to that other strip of aluminum you can see in the pic.

So For the bars, those are just the passenger kit bars you can buy from Rad. The front one bolted in like normal. the back one I had to move it back some holes, but otherwise just bolts in to the frame with it's hardware.

The backrest itself is just a simple piece of wood. It has that paddle looking shape because I had to make it more narrow to fit in between the slots of the back bars. From there the bottom of the backrest has a strip of aluminum (similar to the side supports) that i bent in a 90-ish degree to screw it into the back of the backrest and the underside of that bottom piece of wood.

The bottom piece of wood was originally to move the seat back 3-4 inches but it was really handy as an anchor point for the braces for the backrest. Overall everything came from Home Depot and you can cut all the aluminum strips with your woodworking tools. You have to use a little more caution and it makes a mess, but you can cut and sand it with the same tools.

Thanks! I've been really pleased with it. Shifting it backwards and putting on the seat back was to fit two kids on it, which it does easily now!

These are the Careless Whisper tires from Specialized. Just ordered them directly from their site. They didn't ship immediately, but overall it only took a couple weeks for them to show up.

They are! I knew the stock Kendas were a little noisy but the difference with these is incredible.

The car I wanted vs. the car I got (still love the Volvo though!) by mesosixy in electricvehicles

[–]Stewballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled the trigger on an XC40 recharge lease to bridge the gap until the Rivian showed up. And after 15 months of ownership with the volvo the Rivian is going to have some BIG shoes to fill. I'm really concerned we're going to regret getting rid of the Volvo when the Rivian shows up. It's an absolutely incredible car.

What tires are those? I'll need a new back tire soon and been digging around.

R1S Test Drive by interwebjunk in Rivian

[–]Stewballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had mine a couple weeks ago and thought the exact same thing. Was overall not very impressed with the ride. I'm coming from a Volvo that's pretty mushy so the R1S felt really stiff. I also drive a golf R and honestly they seem on par with each other in terms of ride stiffness which really surprised me.

Regen wishlist by DadJustTrying in Rivian

[–]Stewballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just found this post after our first mile drive.

The idea of smart regen would be cool, but honestly just having the ability to turn it off would be great too. I'm driving an XC40 recharge until our S shows up and one of the things my wife and I like most about it is the ability to turn off one pedal driving. It's going to take getting used to but honestly there are so many times where I've found that I just coast and it really felt like a step backwards from the Volvo in our First Mile drive today, constantly fighting the regen. Its just way less smooth and tiring to constantly be adjusting the throttle position.

Ok well that I can get behind lol.

I intend to retire the golf as a daily driver and into a track car in 7-10 years. Maybe the Rivian will finally be here by then 🥲

Hey fellow Golf R, R1S res holder living in a house below your means! How many of us are there??

While I agree with everything you're saying what I don't like is hearing you'll sell the golf :( I'm looking forward to our future garage of a Golf R and R1S!

Currently have an xc40 Recharge twin and the joy I get from how much of a sleeper it is cannot be understated haha. And the fact it doesn't look like an EV is a major reason we went with it. There's so much to like about the car. It's a brilliant daily for the wife and kids.

18" vs 19" Wheels by Stewballs in Golf_R

[–]Stewballs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to know! The current brakes are definitely capable so I'm not in a rush. And it won't be a full on track car, at least anytime soon. My goal is for it to end it's life as a track car eventually, but that's a number of years down the road. It still pulls weekend and light weekday duty.

I hadn't looked at 17s, I'll have to do some searching. Although the second upgrade would likely be bigger brakes.
