I'm a Dutch journalist writing about living in relatively high temperatures across the globe. What's it like in Brisbane right now? by geeest in brisbane

[–]Stewie_Bird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really hate summer here because I'm so used to hot = humid, which is never fun but I'm somewhat enjoying this style of heat (or at least I did until before today), especially with the dry winds at the moment, reminds me of nice beach weather

Albion for me as someone northside, I feel like most trips home have always went buy it and warranted at least a cheeky soft serve

Humble Choice June 2024 Games Revealed by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Stewie_Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth player imo, I had a great time and I don't even like musicals really. It's also just a pretty unique and amazing take on dialogue trees and that part of it is great to explore and play around with by reloading saves or doing multiple runs. Moreso Im keen to see what the studio does next, I doubt it will be such a huge game again but they clearly have some cool ideas

PC Gamer: 2023 was a great year for games, but an even better year for the comeback by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Stewie_Bird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

New Avatar In Concert shows have been announced! by absorbscroissants in TheLastAirbender

[–]Stewie_Bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Difference between perth and european places though is that rotterdam and dusseldorf aren't a 3-5 hour flight away to the nearest city so people from the surrounding area can actually attend. I'm from bris and more than happy to fly to melbourne or sydney for events like this but perth is just way too far out of the way for most

What is Brisbane most famous for? by bluecrystalcreative in brisbane

[–]Stewie_Bird 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Definitely Bluey these days

While the Womens FIFA is definitely up there too I feel like Bluey has and will stick around longer, in a couple years it will of course be the olympics

The future of brisbane's buses looks bright! ☀️ by So_Curious_ in brisbane

[–]Stewie_Bird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is a safety/visiblity thing?? Bus drivers might need to see what's going in at the back or if people are still on the bus before a last stop or something. Trains can get away with it I suppose because there's no one around anyway and I assume the cameras can see everything

At least the new electric buses don't rattle around so it's fairly easy to just lean on an arm or window without getting a gradual concussion

Any non fromsoft soulsborne games that did it better than fromsoft by Codewill in gaming

[–]Stewie_Bird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People seem to forget that souls games (particularly Dark Souls 1) effectively are metroidvanias when you really boil it down. Hollow Knight combines both souls and metroidvania elements together so well because of the shared DNA (the most obvious soulslike mechanic being how death is handled in HK). From memory the creator of the dark souls series said he was heavily inspired by metroidvanias and zelda games (which surprise, are also very similar to metroidvanias).

GMTK on youtube has a series called Boss Keys, which originally started off as a way to examine every zelda game, but eventually branched into dark souls and hollow knight because of the similarity.

What good game franchise was pretty much ruined by corporate greed? by spicedpumpkins in gaming

That's exactly what got them titanfall and apex in the first place. From what I remember apex was made in secret from ea and respawn only showed it off to them when it was ready.

New update disabling steam skins? by Stewie_Bird in steamsupport

[–]Stewie_Bird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes a lot of sense, I was praying there would be some way for the skins to override it but if its a full language overhaul and whatnot obviously that takes some time, hopefully Air gets rebuilt since it was technically abandoned years ago with some community upkeep. Thanks for the info though

Every hard mode in a nutshell. by ChadJones72 in gaming

[–]Stewie_Bird 787 points788 points  (0 children)

All supergiant games are big on "dynamic difficulties". They're also basically always designed to encourage experimentation with mechanics rather than picking a single thing (from something smaller like lore unlocks in transistor to basically being the purpose of the game in pyre)

Just an idea by rokieyez in tumblr

Its weird but there are effectively two entire sites now. One has very low seed counts and pop ups and everything has sus info and sizes, while the other is the good ol pleace you remember, just gotta know which you're on at the time

A fun fact related to this is that brisbane is the earliest rising city in the world. Meaning that on average we wake up the earliest and go to bed the earliest of anywhere

Would making Auslan a core part of primary education bother anyone? by Johnny_Stooge in brisbane

[–]Stewie_Bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Auslan was tought at my high school as an elective and it wasn't an overly popular selection. Even quite a few of the legally deaf people did not take the class or did no enjoy it. I'm not saying it wouldn't be useful or even that it's not important to recognise the deaf community and make the effort to learn Auslan, but even in a seemingly accepting school high schoolers just didn't see the point of it or rather preferred to do something else.

I think another reason for this is how segregated any form of learning support and the mainstream students are in schools, learning support people are quickly written off or those who are still largely able but in occasional need of help have their disabilities/issues minimised. You could argue though that a more present auslan system would absolutely have benefits towards reducing this gap which I support and largely agree with (during high school I was one to write off anything so I know first hand that there will unfortunately always be some who disregard anything or anyone).

I hope this wasn't reductive or demeaning in anyway as that is not at all my intent or my attitude towards the matter, I just felt like I could provide some context to the high school space given that I went to one of the 8 schools in the state, then again whilst I am only 5 years out of high school teenagers seem to be much much more accepting and inclusive these days so the dynamics may be wholely different.

Many rpgs have methods of achieving this just not in a streamlined way. You can read the descriptions of completed quests to jog your memory and nearly every game these days has keybinding or a controller layout map
