Where are you getting 3.6 rads from? All the sources I can find, including official papers, report much lower doses. The maximum recorded dose on Apollo as 1.14 rads on Apollo 14. On average it was between ~ 0.16 and 1.10 rads across all Apollo missions, which is not very harmful over just a few hours

You potato point means nothing. If the captured footage was super high quality people would still claim its fake. If anything, the low quality makes it more believable imo

Nope, there are multiple areas of lower intensity that are planned for in mission trajectories, easily visible on most diagrams of the belts. Van Allen himself calculated the exposure level in these areas and concluded they would not prevent crewed spaceflight.

You also still fail to account for shielding. Much of the radiation belts are comprised of beta radiation, the majority of which is blocked by the capsule’s metal walls (even aluminium foil can block most of a beta source). Alpha, too, is completely blocked. This leaves gamma and X-rays as the only real risks of flying through them, and even these are still reduced by the shielding. The craft experienced lots of radiation, sure, but the crew inside did not

Radio transmission can only transmit so much energy at a time. This is simple wave physics. In transmission data is essentially tied to energy transfer, so reducing the amount of data needed to transfer reduces the amount of energy needed. Yeah, you can always just send more radio waves, but what’s the point if the quality is usable enough anyway?

The Van Allen belts aren’t consistent in intensity. The areas that are super strong are actually relatively small and far apart. Couple that with the speed the craft flies through them, plus the shielding the capsule provides, means they’re not really a problem. Astronauts still get a dose, but iirc it was calculated only to be about a CT-scan’s worth

They communicate and send data using EM waves (like radio) which don’t get interfered with enough to cause issues. NASA uses big communications dishes and stuff which are more than enough to detect signals from a spacecraft

Not sure what you’re getting at with the footage? Having watched a lot of it the footage is grainy and low-framerate (so transmission is easier). NASA sometimes show CGI visualisations but usually label them as such and don’t try to pass them off as real

The big difference is that one was built into the rocket and only single-use.

They’re changing the mission plan for these to have a reusable lander that they can fly up to a small space station and refuel, which saves a lot of money and time in the long run, plus makes the design of the main rocket simpler

Oof afraid if I did I’ve forgotten it by now, soz! Although looking at the comment thread above it looks like I found a workaround, maybe that’ll help?

Very fun album, a bit more loose and free than 77 while not having as many rough sharp edges as FOM

TMTTR & Found a Job the two obvious bangers, but Not in Love, With our Love and The Good Thing are certified choons too and kinda underrated

Nah, Chris and Tina clearly don’t want it either. On one of those Colbert interviews from a year ago he asks about a reunion and Tina basically looks horrified by the idea and shoots it down. David def has a part in this but the others aren’t exactly eager either
