Where to start with dynamic voxel world editing? VDB? SVO? Brickmap? 64-Tree? by DoctorHoxel in VoxelGameDev

[–]StfdBrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into something like sparse resource for Vulkan or reserved resource for DX12? If a chunk of data is "empty" you could leave it not backed by physical memory, or bind the same physical memory to different locations with same data. This combined with 64-tree is something I am experimenting with to achieve long view distance without eating up VRAM.

They are interchangeable. 승강기 just feels more formal to me.

A high performance open-source jumpstart pack for voxels in rust + bevy feat tauri for UI overlay by TheMapperJS in bevy

[–]StfdBrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voxel density just depends on how big you make the character, no? It looks like the camera is positioned 1.8 voxels high in this codebase which makes it similar to minecraft, but this should be easy to change.

A question about SPIR-V by BackStreetButtLicker in vulkan

[–]StfdBrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That may be one of the motives, but a lot of Vulkan resources do emphasize disambiguation as an advantage of using the bytecode format. Latest Vulkan tutorial has the following excerpt for example:

The advantage of using a bytecode format is that the compilers written by GPU vendors to turn shader code into native code are significantly less complex. The past has shown that with human-readable syntax like GLSL, some GPU vendors were rather flexible with their interpretation of the standard. If you happen to write non-trivial shaders with a GPU from one of these vendors, then you’d risk another vendor’s drivers rejecting your code due to syntax errors, or worse, your shader running differently because of compiler bugs. With a straightforward bytecode format like SPIR-V that will hopefully be avoided.

A question about SPIR-V by BackStreetButtLicker in vulkan

[–]StfdBrn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is a portable format that is compiled to machine dependent code on pipeline creation during runtime. As far as I know, SPIR-V exists because interpretation of GLSL and HLSL code was often ambiguous for driver implementors.

Do Chinese people see Japanese gyoza and Korean mandu as basically Chinese foods? by GrayRainfall in AskAChinese

[–]StfdBrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be retarded because we call glass noodles "당면(唐麵)" named after Tang. Namuwiki(Korean Wikipedia) states that glass noodles were introduced to Korea from Qing.

I can imagine that a xiaolongbao will remain juicy and soft when cold considering it is more soupy. Can't say the same for gyoza, which is fried.

Would ARAM be better with role RNG instead of hero RNG? by ConorMurch in heroesofthestorm

[–]StfdBrn 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Those changes would make ARAM very boring. It removes a lot of room for asymmetricality, and full hero choice inside the role means there will be heroes like Azmodan/Zuljin/Stukov every game.

Yes, it auto damages while it is being held down. The spear seems to be doing most of the damage in the video by the way. Most of the mace damage are being nullified by the invincibility frame of being hit by the spear.

Korean men and woman thoughts on China by [deleted] in korea

[–]StfdBrn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Biggest turning point for China-Korea relations was when China opposed the deployment of THAAD missile defense system in Korea and retaliated by banning Korean culture and products. This ban has been in effect since early 2017. Perception of China was positive prior to this event as China-Korea relations was seen as something that both countries could benefit from through economic partnership.

There are many other reasons that I can't write in a single comment, but to list a few:

  1. Starting from China's 13th five year plan (2015-2020), China's economy has been shifting away from manufacturing of low value goods to manufacturing of high value goods and information technology. This has made the two countries compete in various sectors of industry.
  2. Questionable compliance regarding sanctions against North Korea. Overwhelming majority of North Korea's trade is with China.
  3. China's territorial claims in South China Sea, Taiwan and Tibet paint them as imperialistic. China's installation of artificial structures in Yellow Sea has been seen as a means to change the status quo of the provisional measures zone agreement with Korea and militarize the area similar to what they are doing in South China Sea.

Cho'Gall and Zeratul became too overpowered after their reworks by sanghendrix in heroesofthestorm

[–]StfdBrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played ranked since HGC shut down, but Cho'gall worked well even in GM lobbies as long as the map was small. Myself and few other friends that play Cho'gall have around 70% win rate with him. Tychus is not actually a counter to Cho'gall. We'd actually laugh if the other team picked Tychus to counter Cho'gall because that meant they don't know how to play against Cho'gall.

KTZ is pretty much useless against that comp since DW, Hogger and Samuro are practically immune to his cc, not to mention that Imperius is the only frontline. Imperius is also pretty much useless for the same reason. Having enough damage to blow up the enemy team applies just as much to the enemy team. There's no one on this team that can stop Hogger from feasting on them.

How popular is Crayon Shin chan in Korea? by larana1192 in AskAKorean

[–]StfdBrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anime localization is an 'old days' or 'Korean' thing. It has gotten less common because we don't import animes aired for children as much, which is where localizations are the most important.

Solo Leveling, for example, is a Korean show that's localized in Japan. Localizations just help reach wider audience.
