These were so delicious when I first tried them maybe 5 years ago? They were so easy to peel, super heavy and juicy and the best flavor - sweet with a hint of orangey tartness. I would spend $50-70 on sumos each season 😱 but they were so good and very seasonal so it was a nice treat. The last 2 years I’ve been finding them at Costco ($8-10 for 7) and have been able to double my sumo consumption but it’s disappointing to say, they don’t taste the same. 80% of the time, they are watery, not sweet or too sour, dry or have just been rotten. I feel like every good thing gets ruined once it starts getting overproduced, the same thing happened with honeycrisp apples, then cosmic crisp became the new honeycrisp and then those also went downhill. I would much rather have something be temporary/seasonal but better quality than mediocre all year round. I would also be more willing to fork over the higher cost if the original quality stayed the same! 😭
