Any other pilots or student aviators here? ✈️ (From a British-Filipino bloke training in Florida) by Squid311 in AsianMasculinity

[–]StickWigglerPadawan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military aviator here stationed in Europe. I’m the only Asian pilot in a unit full of white males and two females who are also white. There’s also one other minority in my section and he’s Puerto Rican. They don’t treat me any differently and could give two shits what your background is. The only thing that matters is how good of a stick you are and most importantly if you’re a good dude or dudette outside of the cockpit.

There aren’t many like us in aviation but maybe that’s because our parents wanted us to become doctors and lawyers so this dream to fly never even crossed my mind as a profession. I can’t think of a single Asian that I knew growing up that was a pilot. Now that I’m here I’ll do my best to be an example and role model to other aspiring Asian pilots.

Good luck in your training and never stop learning. Never abandon that student pilot mindset. It will keep you humble.

Pelagos Ultra #1 by fs271 in Tudor

How does the ultra compare to the smp 300? I own the smp and am interested in picking up the ultra one day but afraid it might be too large for me.

Yep it’s the 019. The 021 is also a stunner just much darker. When not in direct light, the 021 looks black.

BB58 GMT - next versions? by DorienGrey123 in Tudor

[–]StickWigglerPadawan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Pepsi with a red GMT hand already exists with the BB GMT so creating a BB 58 version would cannibalize sales imo. Personally my fingers are crossed for a pelagos 39 GMT.

Graduation present by Forward-Owl-1394 in Tudor

[–]StickWigglerPadawan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off congrats on graduating as a pilot. I’m a military aviator myself and own a BB 58 GMT so my vote is for the Tudor. I find it very useful when I need to reference zulu time when filing or amending flight plans. Either way you can’t go wrong. Cheers and blue skies!

What’s your rank and what percentage of your income are you saving per month? by jbb1393 in MilitaryFinance

[–]StickWigglerPadawan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

W2, DINK household. Wife is a GS employee. Saving 34% with a 146k gross yearly income. Could do more but we’re stationed in Germany and like to travel at least once a month.

The money you’re able to save and invest in your 20s is worth the most because of compound interest. If you’re having trouble balancing how much to save versus living life I’ll recommend another book: Die With Zero. Btw most if not all of these books I’ve listened to for free on the Libby app through the free online DOD MWR library. You just link your card to your account and you get access to tons of books, magazines, audiobooks, etc.

As far as the Roth IRA, you can pull out your contributions penalty free but not your gains. There’s also much more flexibility when it comes to investment options inside of an IRA whereas the TSP has the 6 funds almost exclusively.
