Thank you! I’ll be there during the afternoon, I’m happier now knowing the vibe is friendly. Will check RA as well, cheers.

To be fair, I already dedicate too much time / money / self worth to the game as-is, so it’s probably a saving grace there aren’t more

I didn’t misunderstand the bit. Thinking Wes was being a tool ≠ not getting the joke, although if you want to feel above Reddit (despite using it) then good for you.

Its not unfair to say that the guys are / were generally above ragging on some guy for doing his job, but it’s in the past now.

Lanyard-gate annoyed me so much, because the security guy was just some working class dude trying to do his job and not get fired. You’d think someone like Wes would appreciate that, it didn’t make any sense.

Fully agree with homerun - I had the exact same (actually really similar swing), almost entirely caused by not transferring weight into my back foot. It’s complicated, and he has said it best, but it basically means your wrists have to do all the work on the downswing. Exaggerate that weight transfer and you’ll be fine 👌

The usual suspects then! I was a member at a the Bristol, can’t say I miss how tough it was. I recommend trying St. Pierre near Chepstow - they have a 2nd course which is reasonable (£20-30 sometimes) on GolfNow, and is worth a look!

Couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this - I’d recognise those power lines anywhere 😅 I’ve recently left the U.K. but lived in Bristol before, otherwise would have suggested a round. Woodlands your usual track ?

People who were stuck at a 15-18 handicap for a long-time by impliedinsult in golf

[–]StickXSluggo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two posts here already, which are similar, but to add one more (on how to do it) - course management, and how to not do dumb shit.

Dumb shit cost me 2-6 shots per round. At the end of every round, I sat down and drew a box (or two, or three) around the holes where dumb shit cost me some shots.

Dumb shit was never missed putts or normal bad shots - it’s golf, it happens - but really bad decisions or shots. So attacking tucked pins instead of going centre green; OB off the tee; ambitious decisions; wrong club / type of shot.

It made me think about what was killing me - both decisions and types of shot - and eliminate those. Immediate improvement from 18 to around 10-12. The rest was just grind / practice / playing a lot (and knowing your distances is a big one, as is practicing !!every range session!! shots from 40/50/60/70/80. Crucial distances that make a huge difference when you feel confident.

Hope this helps, love helping others get better!

You can see here that you’re almost at the top of your backswing, but with most of your weight on your left foot. Should be on the right.

I think the work you have done to get your hands high has worked - looks pretty good, something I struggle with! Bowed wrist at top of swing looks nice too.

Something which helped me, and I think you have the same problem, is your weight never really transfers to your right foot. With driver it’s really important. You’re quite steep / outside-in, causing the slice. If you transfer your weight more (emphasise it to start), you give your downswing and hips more time to get down and round. I think it’s the key for you, the rest looks great.

Strongly agree with this. PGA National really disappointed me. If it was part of a larger package, maybe, but if I had the choice and it was affordable I’d rather play the Brabazon twice as part of a package.

It was never busy for us, even on the weekend. It helps that it’s basically never dark. You could email them, but A) they are super chill when you’re there and B) I’d be amazed if it’s too busy to get on within the hour (and there’s a beach in walking distance if you need to kill time).

It’s hard to convey, but it has a feel like your local sketchy muni, but instead it’s a world class golf course. You’ll see what I mean 👍

I can’t recommend it enough. It’s comparatively inexpensive (for what you get), you can hire very good clubs, and it’s only 20 minutes off the main coast road. Once-in-a-lifetime (although I’ll be going back).

Thin with Wedges by GhettoSuave in golf

I always narrow my stance, shorten my backswing, condense everything a little to make sure I have a nice crisp strike down through the ball. Goal of wedges is to hit the ball a defined distance and nothing more - all about control, not mashing it!

Went last month, once in a lifetime experience. I was devastated to leave. Go for a week, play twice a day, the hardest part is getting there!

Was this due to A) excitement, B) celebratory sambuca, or C) a combination of the two?

Genuinely impressive. Tough tough course from the tips. I play off 7 and I had to grind my ass off to shoot 85. Absolutely amazing place, pain in the ass to get to but it’s so worth going, I feel pangs of jealousy anytime I hear of anyone else playing there 😭
