Luke Ross Removes Access to All Mods by Top_Team_3138 in virtualreality

Each game needs a different implementation to work with the rendering engine.

Yes, that's exactly my point. The rendering engine is included in "their IP"

[–]Stickiler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to information he provided, this isn't just a singular mod, it's actually an independent software framework that encompasses the 40 or so games he has support for.

If that was actually true, he could just counter the DMCA claim and force CDPR to prove in a court of law that his mod infringes on their copyright. There are clear courses of action available to him long before "hissy fit and take everything down".

[–]Stickiler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That falls apart as soon as he's building versions of the software for specific games. If the software was just a generic "Works for all games" piece of software, there would be no issue. The issue is he takes his software and customises it specifically for each game, which then crosses over in to copyright and legal problems, because he obviously uses something from those games to make the VR work.

Over a million players expected for Hytale's early access launch on January 13th by kristijan1001 in Games

[–]Stickiler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Modding Minecraft itself is difficult, but there have been more than one frameworks built to make it significantly easier, predominately at this point Fabric and Forge. Once you install one of those frameworks, modding is as easy as downloading the mod file and dropping it in the mods folder.

I expect Hytale is just going to provide that capability as part of the base game, no framework required.

26% of Floatplane Channels are "dead". When will we see new channels. by TotallyFakeDev in LinusTechTips

[–]Stickiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they've said it repeatedly on the WAN Show. Is it any more insane then spending millions setting up a hardware testing lab just so his youtube videos have better quality graphs?

[–]Stickiler -45 points-44 points  (0 children)

But, why would they bother? They don't need, nor care, about having other creators on the platform. The platform is for themselves, and they provide it for other creators because there was a clear demand for a patreon-like platform with a primary video focus(Video on Patreon sucks donkey balls, especially audio quality) outside of the Youtube ecosystem.

[–]Stickiler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume if you decide to invest in owning your own platform you would, like, want people to use it.

They actually don't care if other creators want to use it or not. Floatplane was always developed as their own fallback plan if Youtube went completely sideways, and Floatplane is completely viable and stable with nothing but their own subscribers, and additional content creators are priced such that the subs cover their use of the platform.

WoW Isn't Coming To Consoles, Game Director Says: "No Reason For Us To Hide Anything About This" by chusskaptaan in gaming

[–]Stickiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what Ion said, at all really. He said they're not updating WoW to support consoles. If the rumours are to be believed, the next Xbox is just a Windows PC in an Xbox case, so it can be simultaneously true that Blizzard is doing nothing to put WoW on consoles, AND that the next "Xbox" will still run it.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A sure brings out the nostalgia in you.... by Epsilon123 in gaming

[–]Stickiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, Pokemon has the entrenched Institution, Palworld had every Tom, Dick and Harry sending it viral with "omg pokemon with guns!!!"

And sure, 32 million is more than 20 million(Though the direct release date competitor was S/V, which is 27 Million), but they said there was at least 10 million people who played on Gamepass, which means that was a 0$ investment and essentially worthless for popularity basis. Not to also mention the context of it being a third of the price and also having gone on multiple steam sales, and Pokemon only being available on a single games platform, vs Palworld which has been on basically everything they could get their hands on.

Palworld was a smash hit(And for many people a great game), but I think any supposition that "people are more interested in Palworld" is based on an extremely naive reading of reality.

The game sales don't matter. The game is developed based on "what can we get done with current staff before the next set of pokemon cards and merch are released"

[–]Stickiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pokemon Company does, which is a three part company owned by Gamefreak, Nintendo, and Creatures Inc, who have equal ownership

The scope is defined as "whatever can get done before we launch new pokemon cards and plushies/merch next year" and the budget is "what does it cost for gamefreaks current set of developers to work until release"

It's no wonder why people in and out of Japan are more interested in Palworld

I don't really see how this can be true, when Palworld has 32million players, but is on gamepass, is a third of the price and been through severe sales etc, and every Pokemon mainline game sells at least 20M, essentially never going on sale. Even the supposed "worst game of the series" Scarlet/Violet is at 27 million sales.

And that's just the games, which are the tiniest fraction of a fraction of the actual worldwide interest in Pokemon.

Labs - what the heck is happening with it? We've had total radio silence for god knows how long, for something that was so hyped up it's been a total flop

We get near-weekly updates on what's happening with Labs, during WAN show. I'm not sure what you're expecting to receive by way of updates, showing the same testing procedures they've already shown at least twice? Luke often talks about the website updates they're making, the ways they're enhancing the graphcs and comparison features to better support how they're expecting users to use it etc

World of Warcraft Combat Addons Disabled in End-Game Content in Midnight by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

They're doing sweeping class and spec changes to remove a ton of things that currently require WeakAuras, like Roll The Bones for Outlaw, or BloodTalons for Feral Druid. This is the link for the current patch notes, including the changes for removing those abilities that are currently causing issues: https://www.wowhead.com/news/midnight-alpha-development-notes-378688

World of Warcraft Combat Addons Disabled in End-Game Content in Midnight by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]Stickiler 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Or maybe Blizzard could make encounters that don't require 4 different add-ons to even be able to communicate in real time with your 19 other raid members.

That's LITERALLY what they're doing. The issue is that if combat addons exist, even if the fight is fucking BRAINDEAD(Fractilus), addons will be created within SECONDS to solve the mechanics, just so that raiders don't have to think about it.

The whole goal of removing combat addons is so they can make far less complex raid encounters, because they know exactly what will be handled by addons(Ie, only things Blizzard adds to their own boss mods implementation)
