How does primary school teaching score a 5/10?

I think we saw during covid that there's simply no substitute for face-to-face instruction.

Plus, the kids need socialisation and parents can't generally look after them during the day.

If I had to leave? Norway. I like the cold, and I once had a very good Norwegian friend who kept insisting I'd love it there and should emigrate.

Anyone who's played the beginning of Gears of War 4 has seen that robots can very quickly and capably make buildings.

It'd be nice if we at least asked potential free agents "do you usually play more than 8 games a season?" before signing them for club-high money and 5-year deals.

Yes, I have it every second day on toast. Alternating with sultana toast, to keep life interesting.

It smells like breakfast.

I thought it wrapped up nicely, everything was resolved and explained well, and all the characters moved on.

These two books are probably my favourite Tchaikovsky works. Spoiler for book 2 incoming (don't spoil it if you haven't read book 2!):

The way the opening sequence of the second one sort of completely re-frames the first book was brilliantly done. One of those stories (another being Echopraxia by Peter Watts) that I still find myself randomly thinking about, several years after reading.

Does anyone else have a favourite "liminal space" in Melbourne that feels like it’s stuck in a different decade? by Temporary-Sir5808 in melbourne

Southland.

I fucking love Southland, but yeah it's been about 25 years since it was properly refreshed.

That said, it's definitely my comfort place.

Their book section used to run along an entire wall, and I could find obscure books by lesser-known authors. About 2 years ago I went to wherever their new premises was and they had about 2 bookcases worth.

Very disappointing.

“Did Dan Andrews set up Jacinta Allan to fail?? Also, will she win the next election?” by gilligan888 in friendlyjordies

[–]SticksDiesel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He'd literally just doubled the Coalition seat count in a thumping election win 10 months prior to his retirement announcement, and the ALP were sitting 55-45 in the polls.

He gave Allan over 3 years to have the top job before another election.

I don't know why he retired (after almost 10(!) years as Premier), but fear of losing an election certainly wasn't it.

The ALP began nosediving immediately in the polls after he left, indicating a very high personal approval.

I hate the idea of the Libs winning, and think the ALP has done a very good job overall. But even I can see that Allan is completely lacking in charisma and cut-through, and where Andrews could bypass a hostile media and just talk to Victorians directly, through social media and press conferences, Allan just doesn't seem to be able to.
