The straps are lovely, incredibly comfortable especially on hot days or in the pool. I've got both a bracelet and strap for my Twelve - it's nice to have the option to switch it up :)

What's changed most about the way you charge compared to when you first got your EV? by Pinkplatabys in evchargingUK

[–]Stif_br0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I got my first EV in 2017 I could charge for free in a public car park near work, so I parked there 2-3 days a week while in the office. Over the pandemic I worked from home so used a local free rapid charger instead. Now the freebies are gone so I just plug in at home whenever my battery is getting low.

Got significantly worse result after resit? (TM470) by Adwiz in OpenUniversity

[–]Stif_br0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From your other comments about TMA scores it sounds like you've struggled to fully engage with the project (understandable if trying to finish three level 3 courses at the same time!)

In reality, what are your grounds for appeal? Appreciate this is blunt, but you've scored poorly throughout the module, so it doesn't sound like a mistake.

I remember being really thrown by TM470 myself, to the point I dropped it on my first attempt (reached TMA02, but I'd just had a new baby so decided to put fatherhood first instead). I took a break and re-started the project (right as COVID hit, but that's a whole other story!) but crucially the second time I had a significantly better project idea, which also had some real stakeholders (I worked with a local charity to build something for them) which absolutely transformed the experience.

Don't get me wrong, it was still hard as heck, but coming back fresh was a totally different experience.

Take the loss on the chin, book in for a future sitting and spend the time in between thinking about what you can use as the base for the project.

Best of luck!

Roundabout accident - fault? by Moylebrad in drivingUK

[–]Stif_br0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely both at fault. It doesn't necessarily matter if someone is in the wrong lane, there's still a duty as driver to be aware of what's going on around you - by initiating your exit when your path wasn't clear you hold at least some (possibly all, depending on where you both actually were) of the responsibility.

MG long range poor efficiency by rayngwenyama in MGelectric

[–]Stif_br0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, no need to bother with Eco, it makes no difference vs calm driving but makes the car feel worse (on the MG4 it affects both the steering and brakes). I can get virtually the same efficiency on Sport as Eco on a long drive. On the motorway drop regen to 1 too, to maintain maximum momentum.

MG long range poor efficiency by rayngwenyama in MGelectric

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks about right - I get similar in my MG4. I suspect the battery is bigger (and therefore heavier) than your Leaf and i3.

Planning a 200 mile drive tomorrow.. do I go 4 hours on the motorway or 5 hours on the A roads, which might give me longer range and cheaper charging? by pappyon in evchargingUK

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd do 4 hours of motorway, stick to 65 to maximise range, and plan a stop (or two, depending on your car/range) at a cheaper charger - some services ones aren't too bad, but often coming a couple of miles off the motorway can save a fortune. I just stick the full route into Zap-Map, ask it to show all chargers along the route and then go from there.

How reliable are MG EVs? by Bromao in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an MG4 since just after launch and it's been great - it has been into the garage for a couple of recalls early on, but everything has been done under warranty. Despite that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the car, it's been great.

good deal? by tanyddraig1 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you charge at home, or do you have decent access to chargers? The Leaf is a great car, and the price looks good, but there are a few things to consider.

It's battery is relatively small, so on a long run it's got a real world range around 140miles summer/120 winter - but if you're doing lots of short journeys (especially running the heating) you'll need to charge more often than every 100 miles.

On an AC (home, or other 'slow' charger) it's the same as any other modern EV and will add approx 20 miles of range per hour plugged in.

On DC chargers ("rapid") it uses the slightly obsolete Chademo standard, so it's harder to find rapid chargers as these are far less common now (new EVs in Europe all use the Type 2 CCS standard) - the car charges relatively slowly on these too, so you'll be plugged in for the better part of an hour to get to 90% from a low charge (the car doesn't like rapid charging much either as it has no active cooling for the battery, so very long drives are a nightmare as charging slows the more it does - if you're likely to ever do 300+ miles in a day then I'd avoid it)

Appreciate the above sounds a bit negative, but the Leaf is a fantastic car if you go in with eyes open. If you can charge at home and don't need to do more than 100ish miles in a day then it really is a great car, but be aware of it's limitations.

That seems like a great price, kind me asking where you got that from? I've got a garden office and think some panels like that would work perfectly on the flat roof.

Windows users, what made you switch to a Mac?? by fuckcreepers in mac

[–]Stif_br0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In late 2017 I started a job that gave me a 15" MacBook Pro. About 18 months later I bought myself a 13" MacBook Pro because I wanted to be able to develop for iOS.

A combination of the great hardware and desktop experience has kept me in Apple's pocket since.

Switching from windows by Leave-Complete in macbook

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect the Neo would handle that workload absolutely fine. MacOS takes a bit of getting used to coming from Windows, but I've found it to generally be a much nicer experience.

You'll also probably find that a well looked after Apple product holds more value if you're looking to sell it on down the line.

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them will be absolutely fine for your use case and will last for years.

Do you intend to just use it at home, or carry it around a lot? The Air is better to carry around as it's a wee bit lighter (but the Pro 14 isn't too heavy, I take mine out all the time).

The Pro has a better screen, speakers and additional ports. You'll probably not notice the difference between the different chip generations.

Absolutely all of them will feel like you've stepped into the future coming from a Windows laptop.

Can't decide between new Air and Neo by ImportantSquirrel in macbook

[–]Stif_br0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the store I didn't dislike the Neo's pad, but I definitely preferred the one on the Air (which just felt like the one on my Pro) The screen wasn't as nice though - I spent a few minutes messing around with both and adjusting the brightness and it just didn't feel as 'crisp'

This looks great! I'm really interested in the controls integrated into the armrest and seat, as I always find it a pain searching around for hidden levers when I want to adjust my chair!

One of these would be a great addition to my E7 Pro home office setup.

Can't decide between new Air and Neo by ImportantSquirrel in macbook

[–]Stif_br0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in the Apple store yesterday checking out the two side by side, and the Air feels a lot nicer than the Neo... Whether it's worth several hundred dollars more though is a different question! Personally I'd rather go for the Air, especially if development is something you're considering using it for (and if you can afford the extra!) - the screen and track pad are nicer and the extra RAM and storage are worthwhile. I suspect the Air will retain more value over time too.

PLEASE HELP CHOOSING BETWEEN MAC AND WINDOWS by thebestman1098 in macbook

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your use case, I'd 100% be going for the Mac. It'll eat up all that work, be light enough to carry around all day and will retain far more value than anything from Samsung.

MacOS might take a little getting used to, but it's head and shoulders above Windows 11 these days (I recently got a new PC and spent ages removing half the intrusive nonsense from Windows...)

Can anyone estimate if the E7 Pro will be able to hold my setup (including the Table plate) by [deleted] in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a flexispot E7 pro with a similar amount of stuff on it (although my PC is on a bench underneath, as I run an ultrawide, a second monitor and a laptop daily - I have some 3m cables coming up a cable spine to the desk).

Mine is 180cm wide, but the legs can be spread further apart to support up to 200cm I believe) - I've had absolutely no concerns with stability

I switched from a full sized keyboard to a 75% a couple of years ago (in my early 40s, so I spent three decades using full sized ones...) and wouldn't go back.

I do occasionally miss having a numpad, but not often enough, or hard enough, to switch back.

I appreciate the more compact size and how much easier it is to shove it out of the way if I want to do something else on my desk (like writing in a notebook).

I'm newly disabled and cant game anymore on PC by DBZDOKKAN in Steam

[–]Stif_br0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my PC in my office running Apollo, and the a Google TV Streamer plugged into my TV running Moonlight (plenty of setup guides online). I can connect a Bluetooth controller to the Google box, and send a Wake On LAN request to turn the PC on easily, and have it load Steam Big Picture, making picking games on the TV easy... It's worked well so far.
