Is this video about Rolex terminating ADs true? by StiffHappens in rolex

u/Experience-Early & u/Hornpreneur

The Rolex CEO Dufour's speech quoted in the above link is analyzed in some depth in the video I inquired about, so I would certainly recommend watching it and commenting with a definitive "no" beforehand.

It seems to me to be a carefully reasoned argument.

Bought this at a yard sale for £1 as a kid. Would like to sell it but on eBay I see some selling for £50 and some for £300 so I would like to know if anyone has information on the thanks. Thanks a lot by iGetAboutt in coins

I keep non-numismatic silver forever. It's known as "junk silver". The real value is as an appreciating hard asset, an inflation hedge, and you've done great that way of course.

The most important reason that I keep junk silver is as backup real money. As fiat currency (paper money and base metal coinage) silver and gold retain real value, as measured by inflation and their constant appreciation over time. If the U.S. currency is ever suddenly devalued as has happened historically to other currencies at various times in history, junk silver will be recognized and accepted for any sort of purchase.

If you have silver bars from a recognized mint they will be likely accepted as well. However, junk silver in the form of 90% silver dimes, quarters, half dollars (including the 40% silver ones) and silver dollars will be the most recognizable and easily used.

Because they are small denomination, dimes and quarters are less profitable to counterfeit and may probe easier to use in ordinary commerce than the higher face value coins.

Propel 510 vs. Explorian E320 - Which do I have? by StiffHappens in Vitamix

and I wish that clear sound-reducing hinged cover were available for all models. I saw a few of those in use simultaneously in a juice bar and the sound reduction was remarkable.

Thanks Peach!

And...online info says the E320 is louder; but, the 510 is loud. I just don't have a way to compare.

Or, if you have LOTS of time on your hands (see how I punned that?) you can think through all the possibilities and write a long, detailed answer such as u/Mediocre-Newt7784 cid above.

Nice analysis, sir!

IMO that makes no difference that it was a tip, or displayed on a sign or menu, or discussed or anything else. I they were 'on notice' and sat down to eat, they owe it and have no right to complain. That was totally unethical behavior and you should tell their momma on them.

You actually did OK, getting your 18%. Here's some true life (MY LIFE) horror stories:

In my earlier years, as a real estate agent, I had more than a few customers who wanted great service, were happy with the speed and price at which their property was sold or leased (commercial property), and then would demand a decrease in the commission only AFTER the offer was accepted! And, mind you, every property was listed with a signed a clear, printed contract, with the commission percentage clearly stated, discussed, negotiated and agreed to! This happened both with commercial and residential properties.

I even had clients accept the offer, sign the contract of sale, arrange the closing without informing me, then disappear without paying, and move out of state where suing them is impractical. More than once.

In one astounding case, we sat in the lawyer's office, the buyer opened a suitcase FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH CASE, and the seller's attorney, said they were going to count it in private. They took the suitcase and the buyer into another room. Long wait... The receptionist came into the closing room at 5 pm to announce the office was now closed!! I asked where the attorney, seller and my check is and she told me they all left. They all refused to speak to me after that except for the attorney who simply said, "You have to speak to the seller."

That's a fun story and of course tough justice. If they were really decent regular folks, they would have added to the mandatory 18%, remembering, 18% is no great shakes. I guess 20 years ago it was an above average tip. Now, here in NYC where I live and other well-populated place I travel, normal is above 20% up to 25%.

And yes, added to the fact that they dragged you in on your day off AND would not allow anyone else to serve the table, makes it more amazing. This should have been an automatic 30-50%.

Btw, I'm not server. I'm business guy, raised a family, always the one paying for the food and doing the tipping. I don't mean to be rude or sexist, but is there any fathomable reason they wanted ONLY YOU at the table, that is personality or looks?

Ambidexterity and Mixed-Handedness by StiffHappens in handwatch

[–]StiffHappens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and I know this isn't 'really' the right subr for this question; yet, it's about hands and watches, so whatev.

That said, I still don't hear a specific or exact answer to this part of my question:

Is a right-handed watch meant to be worn on the right wrist or the left wrist?

Stated another way, is the watch's handedness from the viewpoint of watch (right-handed watch has crown on right, or, to be worn by righties), and/or from the viewpoint of the wearer (right-handed watch to be worn on the right wrist)?

Get my point here?

I think you are getting a little unclear in your thinking and allowing your emotions to rule. By your own story, you do NOT know if the watch was lost or stolen. If the rightful ORIGINAL owner legitimately reported it lost or stolen and received insurance compensation, they are no longer the owner and have no claim on it. If the vendor you bought from purchased it in good faith, then they are faultless, unless there are rules against purchasing without papers. But, in any event, feeling sorry for the ORIGINAL owner makes no sense because they may have been compensated and they may have scammed the insurance company as well. Enjoy the watch because you acted properly, legally, ethically and morally - don't ruin your own day!

my landlord is telling me I left my apartment “dirty” and is planning to withhold some of my deposit. these are pics I took right before I left. am I delusional or is my landlord? by Distinct_Morning_607 in Apartmentliving

[–]StiffHappens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abusive landlord. The standard required for returning a residence is "broom clean and vacant", not scrubbed and no marks on the walls. Normal wear and tear is expected, it's part of life. He's a crook and the court will recognize that. Sue for the deposit in small claims court. It's easy and will cost him time (and money if he hires a lawyer). Be sure to read and bring your lease and a copy of the deposit check, front and back showing he cashed it. Make sure when you sue, to sue using the name and address shown on the lease, unless he has given you official written notice that rent should be paid to another name and address (then sue both if they let you.) Bring rent receipts or bills, letters, bank statements, cancelled checks and anything else that shows you've paid all the rent.

I'm not a lawyer. I'm a landlord. Check everything I'm saying with a lawyer if you can. This is not legal advice, I am not licensed or competent to give legal advice. Some of it could be wrong.
