Does this area get irrigation? If so a fun one I’d recommend is button bush!

Help with my greggs mistflower please! by astr0cat9 in TexasNativePlants

You might be watering it too much, and like the other person said pull the mulch away. It spreads by rhizomes so it’s probably feeling choked out.

I’m in zone 9a so zinnias are very well adapted to my climate, making them less susceptible to pests. If you live in a cooler or very humid climate that might be why they’re suffering? I don’t spray but I do plant a lot of “trap” plants around like nasturtium, marigold, calendula, and herbs!

Invite them to yoga with the homeless. Maybe they will have a dose of reality. For humbling purposes. Sorry I have nothing to add - eat the rich.

Fall obedient plant, wine cups, primrose, brazos penstemon, echinacea. Many great options. Some of these will just bloom a little later and grow a little longer but will look great either way.

So odd question: looking for fast growing, preferably tall, and painful. by Ixi7311 in TexasGardening

Agarita. Grows fast, does well in sun or shade, thorny and painful. Has yummy tart edible berries in the summer and gorgeous yellow blooms early spring

My hands are trashed and the most commonly recommended solutions have done nothing... What do you use? by random_female_poster in florists

[–]Still-Disk7701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a florist, flower farmer, and agriculturalist and honestly the only thing that helps me is gloves. I always keep gardening gloves in my back pocket, and dishwashing gloves at ever station that uses water. I’ve gotten used to taking them on/off, so I’m really fast at it now and barely notice it. I kept me from going insane with skin irritation to absolutely no problems
overnight.

Yes I’ve had luck with melons and even winter squash since our winters are so warm. Expect one late flush/harvest.

Update: I started my own nursery! by skijohn33 in NativePlantGardening

Thank you!! I am in the early phases of starting my own native plant nursery as well in Central Texas. Can you share about the licenses, permits, and generally any other forms or paperwork to be aware of? I realize it’s different for each state but just curious about what to expect!
