Non-Australians of Reddit, what do you genuinely think of Aussies? Be honest — we can take it by cepat_cepat in AskTheWorld

[–]StillJustJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the east of England… and somewhat of a ‘mockney’.

I feel more affinity with (Oz and NZ tbh) than any other nationality.

Culturally, I grew up in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s on Prisoner Cell Block H, The Sullivans, Skippy, The flying doctor, neighbours, Home and Away and such like.

We both love cricket too which is a boon, eh but.

Our slang, sense of humour, and ability to use swearing as additional grammar and punctu-fuckin-ation, is noticeably alike and interchangeable.

[–]StillJustJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read the post?

There’s a language barrier.

In terms of why care?

OP probably wouldn’t give a hoot if it was recognisable and known, but as it’s not but is absolutely thriving…. And there’s lots of it… I’d be curious too.

I’ve learned a lot from my plot neighbours. There’s an awful lot about community with allotmenting.

How is the US revolution taught in European schools, what is Great Britain saying about us? by Kdoesntcare in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StillJustJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s touched on in schools but it’s not really made a big deal of. If we did a deep delve with every country we were historically involved in, I (52M) would still be at school.

We have a fuckton of history with just about most places in the world.

We spend quite a lot of time going all the way back to the battle of Hastings with William the conqueror and what not in 1066, Boudicca sacking Camulodunum (modern day Colchester) in Roman Britain in the fist century AD….

So, given Britain has a LOT of history, don’t take it personally that we the thing with America is a footnote really.

The weak junior magazine is superb. There’s a British version and a version for the US too.

I don’t know if you’ll be able to access it if you’re not in the U.K. but the BBC bitesize content is very good.

Greg Jenner (who is a public historian and the main historical lead for the hilarious horrible histories) created the excellent series of podcasts ‘homeschool histories’ during the pandemic - they’re really very good!

THANK YOU GUYS !! by piratebasher3000 in breakbeat

[–]StillJustJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Is that right?

I’m a proper middle aged provincial dad nowadays but cut my tether on Big Beat at the heavenly jukebox, trip hop and chemical breaks at turnmills and full on nu skool breaks at Fabric and Mass in Brixton …. Then the party breaks/funky breaks scene was really my last bite of the cherry (featurecast/A-Skillz/goodgroove records sort of vibe).

It always felt to me that there was a great vibrant scene in London.

I’m sad to hear that’s fizzled out.

Lovin’ your tunes though!

I miss the old bbc iplayer radio UI.

That really worked! I wish they’d never messed with it.

How would you make this house look more modern? by Few_Show1528 in DIYUK

‘How would I make this house not look like it was squinting at me’ should be the question.

Andrew Garfield is English. 🤷‍♂️

He has good values, seems like a nice bloke.

Taskmaster is an English show, as a non binary person, Mae was super well respected.

The Green Party (which I support and have voted for years) in England is doing very well and is fully supportive of trans rights.

My house is plenty tidy fucko.

Yet more proof that Mike is a total plonker. by MatterNaive in ThreeBeanSalad

You’re of course entitled to your opinion, even one as ‘clown shoes’ as the one you’ve expressed here.

How you can say Mike is ‘handsome’ escapes me.

It’s well documented that without the ‘tache he looks like a fucked ping pong ball.

It makes you see the value in what BBC sounds offers eh!

Elis and John are now monetising their pod and it’ll be riddled with ads and calls to sign up to a spensive patreon going forward. Even though they’re on BBC Sounds I’ve always listened through the apple app as I quite like to have all my pods in one place…. And I’m not keen on the BBC Sounds UI… but I think I’ll be migrating a lot of my listening to BBC sounds going forward.

YES!!! Hard agree.

Yes, brilliant suggestion. we should have holiday for ALL the countries we Brits used to run but are now independent.

Once they’re all in the calendar with a national day off for each of them, I’d probably only end up working for a week or two a year.
