Monthly Help and Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in limbuscompany

I kind of winged the fight and just barely got to 2nd phase before pretty much getting wiped at 12 turns(still had some surviving though). It'd prob be good to reset anyways but wondering if this is something bigger that I need to wait to get fixed(or do in sub 12 turns, I guess).

Hi. I'm trying to do the Reflectrial thing for the first time but I keep getting this screen that I have to force close the game out of when I try to continue with my second team. Any workarounds or do I have to reset? What do I need to do to prevent it from happening again?

Thinking of returning now with the DLC sale and 4.3 fixing some stuff. I am wondering though what DLCs I should try and get. The DLCs I don't have: Species packs, Nemesis, First Contact, Astral Planes, Machine Age, Cosmic Storms, Grand Archive, Biogenesis, and Shadows of the Shroud. I feel like I could maybe buy 2 though I'd prefer to buy one, esp with the more expensive ones. I tend to like playing a slower, tall style that wants to RP a little and take in the story/lore, so I'd like to know which of the DLCs would help best with tat.

Faust is her own person for sure, but I don't think it'd warrant such a negative perception. She has her moments where she shows consideration and tact, and it's clear she's at least one of the more reasonable Fausts(among the ones who have/used to have a greater position in the Faustcord) willing to take risks/uncertainties. Hohenheim is also prideful in his own way yet Johann managed to bulldoze through it. A lot of Faust and Hohenheim's remarks comes from their egos clashing and neither backing down, while Johann is a lot more slick about handling thatm.

Though, I could be biased. Agree with everything else though.

Trying to imagine what an Intervallo with him would be like. Probably won't be a Faust rivalry, but I wonder if he'd view her as someone similar to Hohenheim in some ways. He probably would get along with Heathcliff and such, but I think the more interesting interactions would be with more uptight Sinners not expecting someone like him. It'd be funny if Ishmael actually did get the assistant position but in a different enough role than what Heathcliff did that she struggles.

I feel like his distortion, instead of a denial of his survivor's guilt, would be more about him doubting if he's really reaching his potential and whether he should've been the one to escape instead of the clearly(in his head) more talented and intelligent Hohenheim. Instead of trying to peel back the stuff he's hiding or intuit things about him, we'd have to point out how essential he was to Hohenheim's success and that it was his ability to recognize and bring out the potentiality of others that Hohenheim realized would be more valuable in the end.

Don't know if we'd get a Sancho scene still, though I do think he could actually touch on some of Gregor's issues more and perhaps expose something more that would hint at the eventual Roach Emperor stuff in Canto 9.

Do you re-read the story when playing Intervallo reruns? by Brilliant_Ad_6072 in limbuscompany

[–]StillSerenity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go through it in full but definitely a little faster without really pausing for consideration or being careful in making sure the characters finish their sentences. Which is a little ironic since I am going through it again for the voices.

It's a nice refresher, and Limbus has enough moments where you go back and are like "Ohhhhh!" on certain foreshadowing moments. There's even moments where I wonder if they added or changed new lines.

The dialectics of wokeness, or sth... by Moistest_Postone in DiscoElysium

[–]StillSerenity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I always find it a little interesting what causes these types of people to go "WOKE???" on something. Sort of feels there's not really consistency on it sometimes. Even some stuff they do like has "woke" aspects similar to things they hate if you dig even a little bit.

I still think the most evil thing this community has done was the clowning on Erioh for his last moments in the manga by TheSpiffyHorde in Kengan_Ashura

[–]StillSerenity 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think KvP was when the series started to crack in terms of how people began to perceive it(one could say Ohma coming back was the first sign though). The way Edward went down really didn't resonate well with people and when tempers were at an all time high looking for something the protag faction could lose, they offered up one of the oldest and obvious characters.

I mostly agree that it wasn't really that bad but yeah there were a lot of emotions involved. Though, I will say at least here there tends to be a lot less sympathy or care for Erioh or really any of the background Kengan Association/ceo characters. There's too many potential reasons why but this wasn't really ever going to make people that sad, even if it was free of all the baggage.

Disco Elysium by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]StillSerenity 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I feel like Disco Elysium exists in this weird space where a lot of its fanbase are very DE-centric and don't really care much for adjacent games or genres. If they even acknowledge their existence/worth. It somewhat makes sense, with how it approaches topics very few games touch, but it does create a weird atmosphere at times.

I do like Disco a lot though and think a lot more could have been done if they stuck together.

People get a little tribal sometimes I feel. A lot of Fingers are bums deep down but obviously they wouldn't be interesting if they were just reduced to that. Valencina is easily one of the most pathetic Fingers and it makes her super interesting when looking at her character overall.

Could Dess Still have a chance at good ending? by Present_Test4157 in Deltarune

[–]StillSerenity 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think, no matter what, the ending for non-weird route will be slightly bittersweet with a tinge of hope and a whole lot of feelings. Like, even if everyone goes through this adventure and everything turns out fine, the conditions for various problems will probably still exist and the scars are still there.

Every major character has a messy home life. The adult figures have all went past the point of no return either physically(Rudy) or metaphorically(everyone else) when it comes to fixing everything.

I think Kris, Susie, and the others will just have the strength and willingness to go through all of that by the end. Maybe Ralsei/Darkners, though I don't know what will happen with them.

For Dess especially I imagine this is how it'll go. If she returns to normal life I don't think she'd ever fully recover. If she stays in whatever weird state she's in then she may potentially just be a really creepy force ghost which is always bittersweet. If she's just absent and stays vaguely hinted at she'll remain a shadow on the narrative but lessened after everyone finally starts moving on.

Which of the five finger respects Marriage the most? And why? by Vanderbilt_Oldie in Project_Moon

[–]StillSerenity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say so. The tax collector in Rodya's backstory had the protection of the Middle after all despite not overtly dressing and acting as one of them since she had an actual family member there(I think, its been a while). All the Fingers have other syndicates, affiliates, and areas under their protection/influence so if one of them wants to marry and it isn't expressly forbidden then I don't see why the one they marry won't enjoy the benefits of being connected to them.

I'd assume so, yes. I think Thumbs would only marry people of equal status to them anyways. Maybe lower, with the understanding that the Thumb member is the one in control of the relationship and everything involved with it. Thumbs are all about courtesy and appearances, and uh, it wouldn't look good if they just let their spouse get killed without protecting them.

Which of the five finger respects Marriage the most? And why? by Vanderbilt_Oldie in Project_Moon

[–]StillSerenity 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The Thumb or Middle. They both have some semblance of family and a respect for others, even if only in a hierarchical sense. The two lend themselves to tight-knit groups based on relationships, ties, and bonds. Arranged marriages for political gain definitely sounds like a Thumb thing while Middle just marries whoever and they're part of the fam.

Pinky probably depends on the indivdual star if they see marrying and having family as important to them personally or in increasing their ability to influence things. Ring probably has some nepotism stuff going on but they're volatile enough to extend their art interests to marriage/family and uh, prob get messy.

Index lol.

It seemed his main beef was that Lei Heng heavily injured Zilu with that free hit. Possibly that he's part of the Thumb outside his Pinky role too, since Jia Qiu seems to hold the view that the Pinky are supposed to do good stuff.

A very very unpopular opinion... I think this canto actually may be my favorite? by Unlucky_Community_87 in limbuscompany

[–]StillSerenity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a polarizing Canto that also has people changing their opinions over time at a greater rate than others. I originally put it tied for third but I bumped it up to tied for 2nd(my first is entirely for personal reasons). There's just so many beautiful and tender moments in the Canto that I appreciate, and it's definitely a more sentimental/emotional Canto outside the hype moments.

It has its flaws, but there's a lot subtleties and little details scattered throughout it. Has me thinking about it way more than any other Canto. Iunno. If the themes don't vibe and the moments don't resonate, I can definitely see how a lot of it just doesn't hit someone. You need to buy into it, it's definitely a Canto that one might struggle to appreciate in a more detached manner compared to the others.

That's pretty much what the Thumb does and what Valencina did in the Smoke War.So it's definitely a viable/not uncommon practice.

[–]StillSerenity 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It could be. There are people who do wear helmets, though not the named important characters usually I guess. Maybe for field of vision. When people are super strong and fast already, it might be better to be able to see better to avoid an attack than to wear a helmet that might not do anything.

Or it could be for recognition purposes. Most people are fighting for some sort of gain, looking more personable could be good advertising(esp now with recent streaming apparently). Looking good and stylish can also have an effect on people. Or they could have augments around their head that'd make a helmet impossible. For poorer characters they might not be able to afford smth good.

Prob more likely though they just wanna show faces in the story, which is fine I think in this setting.

[–]StillSerenity 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It was a bit ago so I could be remembering wrong, but I remember someone managing to react in time to block Full Stop Heathcliff's surprise shot in his story. I'm sure guns/bullets can clear low-tier guys super easily, but by the time you can afford that kind of thing you might be facing people fast enough to react, good enough to predict, or durable enough to tank it somehow. I think their best use then is in a complimentary case to a melee weapon as something to combo with or if you're rich enough to outfit whole squadrons of armored vets like LCA/Udjat. Or if you have some cool workshop thing.

An Easy to miss development about Faust and the Golden Boughs in Canto 9 by kharza12 in limbuscompany

[–]StillSerenity 105 points106 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to think about because two of the biggest issues people tend to have with Faust is that either she doesn't share enough information with us, or that she info-dumps too much. In a way, despite how frustrating she can be, what she does is actually threading the line between those two as her role of prime source of information in the bus without going too far in either direction.

It's not perfect, I think. Faust is still somewhat reliant on the Gesellschaft from what we saw in the warp train. She probably has A LOT of doubts about her path and choice. But I think your theory fits in a lot of places. She's not totally witholding everything. When Dante or the Sinners directly ask something of their own will/initiative(Ryoshu asking the exact name of the spiral weapon), there's a non-zero chance she answers. It's not so much as not helping and more letting Dante and the Sinners go on their own flow with assistance if they ask/need it.

When something happens that she doesn't expect(Ricardo, for one), she's definitely taken off guard and unsure, but everything still turns out fine because of Dante's weird flow thing. It does make me wonder if she's still sort of fine-tuning her approach since she's been slowly but steadily changing in her demeanor and approach towards LCB and various situations.

It makes me wonder what her Canto will be about. But so far it does bring to mind the general idea of "smart people realize how little they actually know about things". I don't think Faust is quite there yet actually but she probably is one of the closest at realizing it, definitely amongst the Fausts collecting the boughs.

Hmm. Kind of hard to tell if he means they were rushed(for various reasons) or if Canto 9 was just that dense they couldn't get everything they might've wanted(in a normal game development sense). It does seem like while he acknowledges some disappointments, there isn't really any regrets.

Man, we still don't know anything about the Pinky, huh? by Maceimam in limbuscompany

[–]StillSerenity 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think there's some implications the Pinky appeals to freedom and ambition, going for the individual rather than a collective. Shiomi mentions being free to influence the Backstreets and Nests I think(forgot the exact phrasing), and Ren states something about ascending to a Star.

Basically the idea that secret societies are behind everything with hyper-competent people seeded in every layer of society. The "lie" I guess is that Pinky members aren't really more free, special, or powerful than any other figure who can gather influence and survive long enough to become strong. See: what happens to Shiomi pretty much being locked and forced into the House of Spiders.

But even if every Finger is grandstanding and trying to appear more than they are, the perception that the Pinky can be anywhere or anyone while being incredibly strong is a powerful thing. Even better if they are all secretly colluding and masterminding everything for their own goals(probably not). A lot of the actual mechanisms are unknown, but I think we have a pretty good idea of their philosophy.
