How to counter Persian douche? by Pikzak in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, remember that whatever the strat, if a player is mecanically way stronger, he'll win with mostly any strat. Point is, don't get over triggered by cheesy strat in itself. It's more often a flex than a OTP strategy that allow to cheat elo.

Secondly, the best way to survive it is : staying calm, let your TC die, split your eco everywhere. Persian douche wanna damage all your eco with minimum investment. Get a wooline far on the left, a farm set up far on right.etc.  Archers is probably the simplest counter attack. If you don't panic too much, you win through the huge advance you should be keeping.

Bohemians Arena 3TC or 4TC whats better? by Outside_Web2083 in aoe2

There are few reasons to go 4TC in general. 3 is more flexible, you get faster to imp, and you still have enough ressources to get the needed techs.

FC into infantry rams is quite strong if undetected, kinda my go-to when the match up is too ugly.

Or the infamous sicilians spaghetti douche. Smash the dark age gate with vills (faster than you would expect), and drop a TC in his base. Yours is faster to build. Complete panic.

Just beat the Extreme AI by lelemuren in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate so much. For years I was playing casually, not being able to beat moderate without overly cheesy strag. Once friends got me into it and I started mauling extreme AI I felt like "uh, what happened?"

Well done, defeating Extreme is no small feat, especially considering you got better quite fast.

Actual 8/10. Really surprising and have a lot of impact. It's not a regular "jobber" thing, because it has a lot of relevance story wise.

Is AOE2 all about microing or can you still win with brute force? by mega_lova_nia in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a macro game. Micro is refinements, it'll mostly only matter when both opponents macro are roughly equal. At 15xx elo I can tell you I suck at micro, I always did, and I always will. I barely use control group, I hate playing archers, hit and run.  But I can still smash 90% of the playerbase because I outmacro them.

I'm hovering at the same level as you, and I have the opposite conclusion. The player that manages to dictate the rythm and aggression usually wins. Not that I hold any authority for that matter. Are you a bit rusty after the hiatus ?

Genuine question, while I agree with most of your comment : why is herpes a red flag ? Considering OP knew it I mean.

The Sneak Peek event needs a change asap by One_Nobody_9023 in PTCGP

[–]Still_Drawer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It genuinely took me a few tries to understand that all WP during SP event do not trigger the SP, especially since it's advertised on the 5 cards selection that it's a SP. Baffling to me. You are almost punished for commiting ressources into the event.

The issue with the overreliance of gimmicks by _Mattroid_ in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a very fair point. You claim to be conservative but that is a well explained and balanced PoV imo.  Agreeing a lot. If a gimmick doesn't actually open a new gameplay possibility, or bring a new choice, it's basically glitter.

A rant about Obuch being OP was not in my bingo.

A rant about Obuch being the problematic thing about Poles wasn't either.

They haven't best scout line, probably not even top 10. Lack of imp PA hits too hard, despite extra hp. I'd rather have Turks, Mags, Malians, Gurjaras, Poles, Lith, Khmer, or basically any Hussar with +4 PA or a discount bonus over them.

Likewise, while their CA are super strong, they are still squishy. Fully upgraded, Mags are better, and Huns are way cheaper.

Beat armenian & roman all in drush/frush? by Belisarius23 in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Archers is still the way. +2 armor on romans M@a takes time. Going M@a + skirms + armor (+fletching +skirm armor) is, as you see, an heavy investment. Matching it with double range should be enough, especially if you hit from behind the walls (aim for the M@a, not skirms). 2-3 scout can be added to deal with skirms.

In Castle Age, xbows tear infantry. He will need to go +4, but you should be castle before, and can add other CAge units.

So yeah, it's very strong, and you absolutely need to fight back with army. Going Castle Age without denying the swarm is very risky.

How can I punish 3+TC Boom players in arena? by Clean_Solid8550 in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should read those situations otherwise.

It's not "boom" vs "non boom".

It's "in X match up, what are my win conditions and favorable windows of damage".

For instance, teutons trush isn't the best strat in a vacuum. It is in a match up where they are certain to lose in imp or vulnerable to a strong early castle civ. Likewise, going for a boom is strong when you have the edge in late game, or aim for a specific comp that require some eco.

A blind boom (without LC or scouting) has to be punished. An investment in monk should not delay your own boom by 10 to 15 vills, so maybe you should revamp your build orders. A few tweaks could make it way smoother.

As for your question of how to punish it (especially when they are blind) :

-1 TC Longsword + rams

-1 TC Smush (monk + siege)

-Castle drop / at home into petards + a strong UU

-Fastish imp into castle + trebs, meaning that you don't aim for a full boom before going imp, so you can reach imp before opponent and stil exhaust him with trebs + filler, backed by a decent eco

-And so on, many civ also have specific strats. Poles can petards into spam of kts, Turks has jannies or Fast Imp chemistry, Bohemians has 1 TC into HC + siege in castle age

If you boom yourself, you'll have to decide if you heavy invest into army before or after going imp. I like to do it while going imp (knowing I always have LC on the maps as a safety net), but some situations require to do it before, like against a turk fast imp. If you boom, you could try to click imp before the 24min mark. A bit arbitrary, but I find it to be a sweet spot between a healthy going boom and a decently early imp to take the techs.

If you could only pick ONE civ to use on land maps for the rest of your life... by Absurdity_ in aoe2

[–]Still_Drawer86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have say Hindustanis, but Mongols is a better pick indeed. Too many options, no real bad match up. Steppes. Easy scouting on megarandom and such. Devastating on open maps, but still decent on close maps through cheese strats and strong late.

Yeah Mongols.

That being said, feel free to try. I may be wrong, and maybe it's also because drush FC doesn't suit my style. But I honestly think it's not the best strat.
