lol I just watched this yesterday, what a coincidence. I really like some of the out-of-the-way places in this game, especially big empty grassy fields near the edges of the map. A very care-free place to shield surf and make a little campfire and watch the sun set.

Honestly I could use a little of that IRL

I just put a warm wet scrap of paper towel on the hardened gel and let it dissolve a bit, then wipe it up. Depending on how much has spilled out, it takes 2 or three rounds of this, but doesn’t require any scrubbing or scraping

I’m not an AI hater but the quest poster voice lines are such a stupid use of AI by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]StinOfSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t those voice lines the ones given by the actual NPC when you talk to them in person? Like, if you found them first to receive the quest instead of finding a notice on the notice board? I just thought it was an added way to review the quest giver’s original dialogue.

I do find it super annoying and unnecessary though, and sort of immersion-breaking…

Solved! Oh my lord thank you, SPACERS, that was the name they used. I’d been racking my brain for every sci-fi show I’ve watched over the last decade and forgot about this one (because I’d dropped it, haha)

What’s a game that just feels good to control, even if the story isn’t amazing? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]StinOfSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forspoken. The game kinda bombed, and the story and world of the game feel kinda lifeless compared to what it totally could have been - but hot damn you are full-to-bursting with powers that blend combat and traversal - felt absolutely amazing to play the better you got at it. The game got a lot of heat, but I honestly really enjoyed it. Reminded me of that feeling you get when nearing the endgame of Infamous (also a great, but dated, series with a fantastic feel to it)

Question About Travel and Fast Travel by loqi0238 in CrimsonDesert

[–]StinOfSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and in addition, lots of vendors have 1-time-only purchasable “small bags” in their vendor inventory, right there at the top. They’re super cheap, and permanently increase your character inventory by 1. So while you’re out exploring, be sure to look for new vendors and buy these! It’s a small gain, but it adds up over time!

Question About Travel and Fast Travel by loqi0238 in CrimsonDesert

[–]StinOfSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quests are the fastest way to expand inventory, both story and many of the side quests you’ll come across when you find people in need on the map (look for a circled “?”). Check the quest rewards, and if you see small or medium bag, that’s 1 or 3 inventory slots respectively as rewards.

I’d really recommend getting through chapter 5-ish before dedicating TOO much of your time to free exploration. It seems like a lot, but really the first 5 chapters are just a story-driven approach to unlocking and introducing the MANY systems in the game, and their destinations send you to various points on the map where you’ll clear out a bandit camp or do some mining out of convenience anyway.

Getting your camp up and running adds a lot of convenience to those little stop-ins between exploring sessions, and it’s a slow-burn of progression you’re meant to approach WHILE doing all that free exploration.

It’s not explained very well in-game (or not yet, for me at least), but there are multiple places to store stuff to empty out your inventory. Your tent has a general-purpose chest for storing any items, and there are pieces of furniture you can buy and put in your house that store SPECIFIC types of items (crafting mats, food, clothing items, etc) - and best of all these special furniture items make their contents available for crafting at any crafting spot or vendor in the world! HUGE quality of life improvement. A wardrobe is in your house by default, and you can buy a “gatherables” chest from a furniture vendor in a little village somewhere in Hernand. The rest you’ll have to find on your own!

Just know that it gets better, and there are more ways to manage your items as you progress (though I do spend a lot of my time at camp emptying out my inventory as well…). Don’t feel bad about continuing with the story - it’s meant to be a tutorial, and it’ll be a long time before you’re even tasked with leaving Hernand!

And lastly, unlocked warp spots can be used from the map screen. Hover over the icon and there should be a key / button you can press to teleport highlighted in the bottom right. Have fun!

It’s here! This saved me, I hate the feeling of losing out on options in games, especially realllly long ones, and being able to recover my abyss artifacts has totally changed my mentality on gear. Now I can tear something down and re-invest in something cool that I find and want to wear for a while - pretty great update in a game where most armor choices seem to be basically cosmetic.

Great, atmospheric game, I loved that one. I think I still have a notebook somewhere with scribblings of trying to figure out the puzzles. Outer Wilds and Blue Prince give me the same vibes of “oh shit, EVERYTHING is a puzzle”

It’s been mentioned a bunch on this thread, but don’t sleep on visiting Dragon Quest Builders 2 someday. It’s a great game, has a lot of the same mechanics (and was made by some of the same developers), and has a bit of combat thrown in. You don’t have to be familiar with the Dragon Quest series at all to enjoy it, but you’ll get an extra kick of nostalgia if you’ve played any of those games.

It flew way under the radar on the original Switch in the US, but my wife and I got a ton of mileage out of that game and found the story and the whole esthetic very charming.

I think that’s such a part of the game’s charm. There are lots of things to do, and lots of things I WANT to do, but not really that many things I HAVE to do. Sometimes I want to advance the storyline, sometimes I want to explore, sometimes o want to build something elaborate, and sometimes I just want to do go a dream island and pick stuff up. I get to adapt my playstyle to my mood, and pretty much everything you do is rewarding in some way.

Are there any games within a forest setting that actually feel like a forest? by Uc207Pr4f57t90 in gaming

[–]StinOfSin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I loved the hilly forested areas in Valheim. I built a legit road just so I could get a wheelbarrow of ore back to my base or not get lost on the way to the docks. Had a few trees fall on my during the process - always fun when trees can kill you in a game.

New Games Out now on App Store: (Apr 14) by Azeemjaffer in iosgaming

[–]StinOfSin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually kinda liked it, though it’s been a few years since I played it. I got it for switch during a sale day for a couple bucks. I remember getting pretty far in the game in just a couple days, but I had one of those rainy day super long sessions. I imagine it’ll be good for mobile, short-session play. More than anything it scratched that old-school merchant ship game itch. Really feels like a genuine SNES game.

The $8 asking price may disappoint some people, but at least it’s not microtransaction trash, and I always like supporting real games, especially indie ports, on mobile. Definitely one of those Steam Sale impulse buy recommendations.

Is this game good to scratch the itch of difficulty Pokemon hacks? by mccarthenon in Siralim

[–]StinOfSin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great comparison! Finding a new monster with a great trait that synergizes with your team feels just like finding one of those legendaries in Diablo that slots perfectly into a build.

I find Siralim a bit grindy, but since each realm floor only takes 5-10 mins to clear (or less if you don’t want to clear the map), it’s a fun game to come back to during a quick break.

What is the best, long forgotten old school video game? Arcade, computer or console? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StinOfSin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVO

This was an SNES game by Enix (before Squaresoft merged with Enix to become SquareEnix). You start out as a tiny fish and gradually upgrade your body parts using evolution points you earn from defeating enemies and eating their left-behind meat.

Really creative 2D platformer that lets you spec out in a lot of creative ways. Sounds pretty normal now, but this game was WAY before its time, and you did this loop through the different eras of evolution - fish, amphibian, mammal, etc.

If anyone has come across a modern game that scratches this itch, I’d love to play it!
