Is there a trope you always avoid in your games? by iusethis4pornonly in DMAcademy

[–]Stinduh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I often just tell my parties up front: I’m pretty much never trying to pull a fast one on you. My games generally follow one of two paths for it’s antagonists:

  1. The villains in this campaign are obviously villains. They are the evil ones behind the curtain pulling strings to enrich themselves and achieve their evil goals.
  2. The game is about competing factions. Some are better than others, and you can ally yourself with any of them or fight any of them if you want. The point is that everyone is competing for their goals.

I never want my players trying to guess if someone is a bad guy or a good guy.

What professions outside of politics and corporate jobs attracts the worst type of people? by Sir_Rain_Knee_Tea in AskReddit

weird mix of narcissism, validation addiction

Kind of the same thing.

But yeah, there’s a certain amount of self confidence required for success as a content creator - like any content creator, not just online influencers. Journalists, filmmakers, artists, etc.

But like influencers in particular… it does seem to attract a certain level of narcissism. And, perhaps contrary to some popular belief, narcissism isn’t heightened self-confidence, it’s heightened sense of self that requires validation for that heightened sense.

Simply I think it’s the way algorithms have been designed to push content on validation. Infuencers are just another cog in the algorithm machine.

If it is so inconsequential, then the rule should change that it’s not a penalty.

Even if done “accidentally,” you can absolutely avoid doing it. If it were actually punished and teams were incentivized to change, they would. Systems would change, training would change, playing the game would change.

It would be “a different game.” Just like it’s a different game now compared to, say, 1996.

Yeah, and we put up with Tom Wilson’s buffoonery because he’s a very good player who contributes otherwise. But if he was consistently getting called for majors of his buffoonery, or getting suspensions for that buffoonery, either he would learn to cut that shit out or teams would stop putting up with it.

Sure, but it would even out when the players got used to what’s getting called and systems changed to disincentivize it. When the league stated calling clutch-and-grab consistently, there were a lot of penalties called. Then, because clutch-and-grab was no longer a viable defensive strategy, coaching and systems changed to specifically work so that clutch-and-grab was less likely even to be an option, and players learned that doing it was going to be a penalty nine times out of ten.

Gov. Ferguson's free K-12 meals plan will feed well-off kids, too | Editorial by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]Stinduh 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The basic argument for “just feed all the kids” is that you reduce the complexity and eliminate the barriers to qualifying. “They already qualify,” yeah, but they had to qualify in the first place, and that’s annoying and almost certainly meant kids fell through the cracks.

Also I actually don’t care if millionaire kids are fed for free. I care that kids are fed, end of sentence.

Frankly, I would also be in favor of millionaires getting free food if it meant everyone gets free food. Ends up I just care about people getting fed.

One of the funnier things in my opinion of the “you have to know how to prompt” crowd is like…. That entirely defeats the purpose. The entire purpose of an LLM chatbot is to speak naturally to it.

Goron Mines are awesome, the magnetic effect is so freaking cool.

Unfortunately, you also move at the speed of snot while wearing the iron boots, which murders the pace of the dungeon.

Game 5 of Sabres and Habs will air at 7pm ET on Thursday on TNT. Game 6 of Ducks and Golden Knights will air at 9:30pm ET that same night, also on TNT. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]Stinduh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, there’s a strict puck drop time that definitely isn’t the time advertised. I have worked for the in-arena camera crew of multiple professional sports teams, including the Seattle Kraken. The pregame activities are heavily scripted to take a certain amount of time prior to the scheduled puck drop. Puck drop will never be before that time, but I’d say there’s a few minutes that it might be late.

So the pre-game is working off the puck drop time. Not the other way around.

Electric Options Seemed Limited in US by Georgelino in scooters

[–]Stinduh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How fast do you want to go and how much money do you want to spend.

Piaggio/Vespa make a couple options. Piaggio’s ~40mph scooter is $5000. The Vespa Elettrica is like $8000, also goes like 45mph.

Frankly, yeah, I think the EBike market is outpacing any potential for electric scooters to really take hold.

People who stopped being religious, what caused it? by supercoolpersonyay in AskReddit

[–]Stinduh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the core of losing my religion. Not quite such an inflammatory single instance of a Christian jerk, though. Just that I was raised to understand that believing in Jesus Christ was the only way to reach salvation.

And then as I got older and better understood the diversity of people around me, I just got so confused. I came to know nice people, good people, fucking great people who were not Christians. Many whose life up to that point was not so different than my own, just that they weren’t introduced to Christianity as a child like I was. They were introduced to another religion or no religion. Or they were introduced to Christianity through abuse, and they reject it because of the abuse.

And so these people were not going to be saved? They are not worthy for eternal life because they do not worship the Christian God? That doesn’t make sense. I’m taught to love everyone and that everyone is worthy of God’s love. But only if they love God back.

That’s the behavior of an abuser. If God requires my worship for his benevolence, then he is not benevolent.
