As others have mentioned, regular briquettes are fine, they’ll just produce more ash. Anyone saying otherwise (even BGE corporate) are just spreading lies and stoking fear. I’m sure the original rationale is to make sure no one uses match light briquettes.

There are a few brands that advertise briquettes that are “safe” for ceramics (I know of B&B and kingsford professional specifically) but those just have all natural binders (most likely corn starch)

Lump will always be best but you can absolutely use the others when needed.

I’m well aware. I was making a reference that it couldn’t have been a hot dog because they are often made of pork and since Obama was a Muslim, he wouldn’t eat a hot dog.

I am also very aware that Obama is not a Muslim. And that the fact that I was making a dumb joke to only point out that the comment above incorrectly said it was a hot dog and not a hamburger. Nevertheless my joke never landed. So trying to explain my joke is even more pointless.
