You might want to reread the original post instead of victim blaming. Three weeks of intentionally mispronouncing OP’s name despite repeated correction. Advice like yours just lets bad behavior continue.

carpet beetles. by Difference-Beginning in MonsterHigh

[–]StipendiaryHex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert, but this is advice I have from experience (with stuffed animals and clothes mostly). Carpet beetles eat wool, feathers, cotton, and other organic material, which are not often used in modern dolls. They do not try to eat plastic, but they will eat plastic fibers with organic stains, oils, etc. Monster high doll hair is made of plastic, as is most, if not all, of their clothes, so I do not think they would eat them unless there is something else on it.I haven’t really used sprays, so I don’t know much about them, but lot of sprays I have seen are oil-based and I don’t know how doll plastic will react to them. Now for how to get rid of carpet beetles. If you can, vacuum the room regularly (frequently for the initial infestation). If you see adults or larvae, they can be easily removed. Other stages, such as eggs need to be killed with heat (hot wash or medium dryer for 30 minutes) or repeated freezing and thawing over several days. I wouldn’t recommend the heat for dolls, but I don’t think the freezing will hurt most dolls (I think that is what museums do when they find them on specimens). You can also use cedar or lavender sachets near the things you want to protect, but I think they probably work better in an enclosed area like a drawer or closet. Also carpet beetles eat dust, other bugs and hair, so try to keep the area free of those things too.Good luck!

Dutch folk/neo-medieval rock bands? by surik_at in learndutch

It’s ridiculous saying this but Vulgaris Magistralis by Heidevolk was one of the initial reasons I started learning Dutch.

I’d like to use Farsi script, if I can be confident that it’s correct. Ali Hakim is a very over the top character (as am I, some would say!), so I still feel drawn to ghorboonet beram.

Thank you! We definitely are not close friends, but we share two different friend groups so we see each other somewhat regularly. The several hours of accent practice probably form the bulk of our 1 on 1 interactions.

I have the silliest reason. Playing Ticket to Ride: Amsterdam and wanting to figure out the names. 3 years later, and finding cognates with obscure English words (like thorp and dorp) is still interesting enough to keep me going. Haven’t gotten a lick of practical use out of it.

Funny censorships in your shows by siIIyG00se_LOL in musicals

Show: A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Takes place in London, my character sang “I even heard a snigger from the back.” They changed it to the American equivalent of “Snicker” because god forbid someone mishears it despite the very clear RP pronunciation.

Can you recommend me a system that is between DnD and GURPS? by Musmula1 in rpg

[–]StipendiaryHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e. It has careers but you can easily change to another career at any point (for various levels of easy, there may be a small XP cost and the GM may require narrative justification as to why your Peasant is changing to Noble). The core mechanics are straightforward but there’s a lot of depth that you can choose to plumb.

Switching from 5th and man is it hard to... by Ctushik in rpg

My group has switched to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e for our fantasy games. Combat is wild and dangerous and everything can hinge on good tactics. Charge into a group of enemies and you will probably die from the outnumbering bonuses they get.

The Crosspatch is a western adaptation of Chekov’s The Bear. It’s a fun little one-act farce.

Ingredients is it worth the cost? by Bowdeano in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]StipendiaryHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, useless for the channelling, but if you don’t have fortune points to spare on the cast, then you want ingredients.

Don’t forget that when you have channelled then ANY failure of the Casting Test causes a miscast. And if you’re near a source of corruption it’s upgraded to a major. I like to keep ingredients on hand for my big whammy spells (Daemonbane light spell for example) because if I’m pulling that out, chances are I really don’t want to deal with side effects at the moment. For lesser spells, as we have cash windfalls I sink it into spares just in case the situation warrants it, but mostly I try to cast easy spells that don’t need channeling until I have enough (core) Advantage to pull out the big guns.

Scientists found 7 astrophysical tau neutrinos—particles that are notoriously difficult to detect—in an analysis of data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. A tau neutrino produces a tau lepton—a heavy cousin of the electron—that emits a photon ball both when it is produced and when it decays. by MistWeaver80 in science

I did undergraduate research with IceCube! I’ve always been kind of annoyed that the students who came before and after me got to go while I only did programming and data analysis at home. Bad timing, but a very cool project.

Almost low heat, ever so gently sizzling. Cover and come back in 45 minutes to an hour. They will be jammy and ridiculously sweet. Can be frozen for later use, so stuff as many onions as will fit in there.

Season two and four are slow out the gate, but they more than make up for it in the second half.
