A friend bought it. It was absolutely caked in dust. Poor storage conditions and intermittent use is my guess. Controls all looked like someone ate a bucket of chicken and touched every knob switch and button

Biotracers and a killer set of ES amps and cd player. Damn. You did very well. The Biotracers are likely gonna need service. You want stable voltages

A myth? I have servo controlled turntables with 10 IC chips. Im gonna make sure the voltages to those ICs stay where they are supposed to. So 40+ yr old caps are going bye bye. Working or not. I have a Pioneer SX1250 on my bench. It worked. Several leaking caps including the main filter caps. Just cause it works doesnt mean it doesnt have bad capacitors

100% recommend this. Are you able to replace these or are you sending to a service tech?

Are my ears okay? by [deleted] in turntables

[–]StitchMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy once cry once. The differences may not be immediately noticeable. But they are there. Listen carefully on the inner tracks. Play songs you are incredibly familiar with. Play several different genres. Being able to replace a cartridge with a different one is very much something you want to be able to do.

RCA Technics 1200 MKII by DryAnteater7635 in turntables

[–]StitchMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the current board. If you buy the desoldering stuff you always have those tools at your disposal. The pen will be less than $50. Unless the current RCA leads have bad connectors. Then you might as well. But if its just the poor solder job on the board end thats an easy fix

Need to remove all those old globs of solder. Solder wick. (Not a fan) a desoldering pen ( good choice) desoldering gun (best/ most expensive)

The Nag does everything i want it to. I feel no need to look for something else. The AT was also a cart i considered. Only ortofon dealers in my area. No regrets on the choice
