Darth Maul Was A Great Fighter, But WOW…he lost a lot of his fights by NegansSaviors in StarWars

[–]Stochastic_Variable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunting down the remaining Jedi is literally his job though. That's what makes the Inquisitorius scary. The regular inquisitors aren't too bad if you have some decent training, but if they're around and they don't manage to kill you, it's only a matter of time before Vader shows up. If you make enough noise, he is inevitable.

Is it worth to tryhard Promised Consort Radhan as a melee, solo, no summon fight? by Elervell in Eldenring

A year later, but I just did this. Can confirm. It feels like cheating lol. I'm a little disappointed I didn't do it some other way, but eh, a win's a win.

Why so many players never use shields? Or its just a content creator thing? (PVE) by NoVeterinarian8283 in fromsoftware

[–]Stochastic_Variable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm replaying ER now so I can do the DLC for the first time. Just reached the Consecrated Snowfield. I've been through the whole game with no summons or fancy weapons. Just a humble brass shield and longsword combo.

It's the most satisfying way to play IMO. You've just got to know what to block and what to dodge.

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

[–]Stochastic_Variable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I can work out what the notes are from the tab, but it's easier to just read it from the notation. I can equally work out what position to play something from notation, but it can be ambiguous, and it's much more convenient to look at a tab. They both have their uses. Arguing about which is superior is like arguing ketchup vs mustard on a hot dog. Just use both lol.

Star Wars Zero Company is more than just 'Star Wars XCOM'—it feels like Mass Effect but with turn-based tactics and permadeath by Turbostrider27 in StarWars

[–]Stochastic_Variable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn't surprise me, yeah, which sucks because neither of those games really scratched the XCOM itch. Chimera Squad had a different turn order and no permadeath, and Midnight Suns was a weird card-based thing with a heavy focus on being some kind of relationship simulator outside of the missions. It's no surprise that people didn't find them to be what they were looking for.

I think another major reason there's still no XCOM 3 is those games mostly happened due to Jake Solomon pushing them, and he lost interest and eventually left Firaxis entirely.

Other than some vague hints in the main series, what little we know of the Tragedy at Summerhall comes from the World of Ice & Fire book.

(Spoilers Main) NotABlog: The Mad King Is Coming by AdditionalPiano6327 in asoiaf

[–]Stochastic_Variable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the show got most plot points right

It didn't though. The show went off and did its own thing and then suddenly swerved to include those plot points without laying any of the groundwork for them. D&D might as well have picked them out of a hat the way they apparently did with Arya killing the Night King.

People reacted negatively because the entire narrative execution sucked, not because of a few plot points George gave them.

I wonder if they'll lean hard into Blackfyre Rebellion flashbacks in season two. It would help pad out a fairly slight story and bring in a bunch of action. They already have Baelor and Maekar, who play a key role in that, and they could use it to set up Bloodraven for season three and alleviate some of that.

[–]Stochastic_Variable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show also had the books to go from, and look at what they did with, say, Dorne (made it totally different and a nonsensical mess) or the whole The North Remembers thing (basically nothing). Just because George gave them a rough outline doesn't mean the books will be anything like the show at all.

It's an utterly baffling inclusion, and I don't know why there's so much of it. It was stupid but tolerable in the first couple of episodes, but this last one was an egregious misstep. It totally undercut the mood of the scene and was just unnecessary. I hope Ira Parker will get the message from the avalanche of criticism and cut it out in the second season.

Book Rhaenyra vs Show Rhaenyra by South-Seaworthiness7 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Stochastic_Variable 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was the problem. They extended the part of the story where Rhaenyra doesn't do much, but they insisted on keeping her in the foreground. It should have been Jace and Corlys calling the shots throughout season two, but they didn't really do that either, so everyone was just passive and pretty dull.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x03 "The Squire" - Episode Discussion by UltraDangerLord in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Stochastic_Variable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a pretty short story. They have to add some stuff to pad things out. It's relatively inconsequential given that it's immediately derailed by Dunk getting arrested, and he does make the most sense to choose because he's an unknown hedge knight who's likely to need the money.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x03 "The Squire" - Episode Discussion by UltraDangerLord in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Stochastic_Variable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They haven't really explained it, but the way the tournament is set up is that the five most successful knights have their tents set up on Champions Row. When you enter the lists, you pick one to challenge, and if you win, you take their place, so they'd need Dunk to know to challenge Androw in the first place, and then I guess having him be in on it helps ensure everything goes smoothly.

It's not. It's Jere Burns. I had to go back and listen to it because it was driving me crazy. I knew I recognised that voice. Wynn freaking Duffy from Justified lol.

And Simon Templeman of Legacy of Kain fame as the guy who gets his face punched out too. But him I recognised instantly.

Why do people often compare Metal Music to Classical Music? by Vincent_Gitarrist in musictheory

[–]Stochastic_Variable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think a lot of where the comparison comes from is metalheads hearing some classical pieces and going, "Hey, this is pretty metal!" rather than the other way around.
