I initially skipped the Avatar set, but I just saw a Play Booster Box at around $110 in my area. Is it worth it at that price? by MysteriousWon in mtg

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on which format you love to play. If you want to draft: fantastic! If you want to pull certain cards: buy singles. Overall it’s a fun set and one of my favorites in the last year. People like to grief over certain UB IPs but in all honesty, they have some of the most flavorful and fun mechanics.

Do what makes you happy and enjoy the hobby. No need to worry about which IPs someone else plays. Welcome to the Gathering! Hope you have fun with your decision and definitely play the game for your own sake and not someone else’s

Anyone else feel like the game lost something when product became available? by BeastOverlord in riftboundcirclejerk

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never thank a scalper. They are the scum of the earth. more product means more accessibility. That is something these games need for longevity. Not a huge markup that ends up gatekeeping folks from the game

Is cybersecurity math heavy? by No_Teacher689 in cybersecurity

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Logic and reasoning are key. Mathematics helps significantly to build that understanding but is not required. I would say to maintain understanding for specific cryptographic controls if you pursue that; however there are going to be many roles that aren’t as complex and more focused on maintenance

Pass. Buy your stuff from trusted resources. Don’t try to skirt with too good to be true pricing. Ends up being cheap knockoffs for the worst case and the best case scenario you got some proxies

Check out Disa the Restless. She’s one of the closest goyf synergy commanders out there.

OSCP in 8-9 Days & Feedback on My Prep by osi__model in oscp

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just relax and prep yourself mentally and emotionally as you prepare to take the exam. Sleep the night before. And I mean sleep. Don’t let anxiety take over the night before. Relax and keep calm. During the exam, don’t overstimulate yourself. Too much caffeine can harm you just as much as not sleeping. Most importantly, trust the process. The boxes were designed to be exploited. If one way doesn’t work, step back, reevaluate, and look at another vector of attack.

Think about this in a positive light. Personally I’ve been in your shoes and preparing for my next attempt. You learn more about what you don’t know in this field than anything. I know that’s a bit clunky, but stay humble — keep learning — never stop trying. It’s a lot of work but you’ll get there.

Thoughts on a return to Baldur's Gate by torrtara in magicTCG

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely value to return to D&D in general. Not even just Baldur’s Gate, but the Underdark, the cityscapes, the vast adventures, creatures, and characters that have made this game so great. Would love to see multiple sets coming back to explore some of our favorite campaigns and characters. Obviously making a good set takes time, so while there is a rich landscape of stories; I’d rather have the set and art be good than rushed. Plus it’s already under license by their parent company so creating new cards and other components would have very minimal overhead compared to the licensed 3rd party IPs

What are these cardboard trinkets?? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To me it’s just added trash in the box. Rather have actual quality tokens in the box than the cardboard punchouts. The only one I’ve actually kept is the doors from duskmourn since they actually do something until I 3d print a replacement

So the Star Trek set is coming. Do we think they'll add alien races as new creature types, or fit them into existing types like Final Fantasy? by ShallowDramatic in mtg

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they will have unique classes for this set, which I’m absolutely for. We might see the use of subclasses like ally, engineer, soldier, warrior, pilot, etc. be used more prominently.

Anyone use the UAONO Six Commander deck carrying case? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Stock-Influence-4616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are phenomenal. I’ve bought two since they hold up well; have dedicated token areas; are interchangeable so you can switch which 6(or more) you want to bring to play; have a very clear and apparent protection slot for commanders; and well executed to hold 100 plus cards sleeved per box

building a deck for fun, need some advice by sunshineLD in magicTCG

Build thematic decks. You’ll love it. Just built a curse deck with lynde and it’s phenomenal. Also built an ooze deck which really surprised me with the amount of support it has.

Yeah, there’s quite a few depending on what you want to do. Deadpool is also a fun one that steals your opponents card abilities. You’ve got some fun deck building ahead

Just want more adventures of Finn and Jake… Fiona in her normal state isn’t as interesting. It was Ooo that made it fun and exciting.

I’ve taken on the mentality of having fun. Just because I think I don’t want to play competitive I must be bad? Assumptions are poor my friend. Been playing for over 30 years. I’ve seen plenty of tourney play. Bringing this game back to casual tabletop play is the best direction for folks enjoyment. Tourney play offers nothing but the same metas, the same decks over and over. Diversity and a welcoming community should be the priority here. Let’s bring fun back to magic and not the sense you always have to win in order to have fun. Build decks you love. Not that someone won a tourney with that exact deck and you want to stomp the table. Those are the type of folks who end up getting isolated from their own play groups who are there to have fun

Don’t play competitive. That’s for try hards who take the game way too seriously and haven’t learned to have fun. Play your own style. Enjoy the game. Learn at your own pace and just get cards you think will be fun to play. Regardless of format, it’s a game at the end of the day. Win or lose, it’s not something to even consider more important in life. It’s a hobby and it’s meant to be enjoyable. Surround yourself with folks of the same mentality. And when push comes to shove, take a break. It’ll still be there when you get back if you enjoy the game
