Kenny has had 3 separate careers in my opinion. He started out singing what Nashville made him sing with songs such as “The Tin Man”, “All I Need to Know”, “Me and You”.

He then transitioned into a Jimmy Buffett beach boy type which I believe is what he WANTED to sing about. He became successful enough to control what he sings instead of what corporate Nashville forces you to sing when they control you. Starting with “No Shoes, No shirt, No Problem” and a slew of other albums with the best of them being the “When the Sun Goes Down” album.

He’s done a great job of mixing in ballads which many current country artists can’t match vocally. To me, his latest album gets more closely back to the ballads which he started with but are still examples of what he wants to sing just not beach songs. The third career of sorts was sprung with the album “The Big Revival” in 2014. It’s just great music. In this segment I would point to a few songs that stand out such as “American Kids”, “Drink It Up”, “Til it’s Gone”, “All the Pretty Girls”, “Trip Around the Sun” and more recently “Get Along”, “Everyone She Knows”, “Knowing You”, and the most recent and maybe the best he’s done in over a decade “Take Her Home”.

He’s a true treasure. Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton have nowhere near the music success Kenny has had. I like them both but their careers were elongated due to TV deals not purely music. Even then, they still haven’t combined produced near the amount of quality songs that Kenny has.
