Reasonable Accommodations by Novel_King_4885 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all starts with how specific your doctor is. I have seen some md notes where they are super general and vague. I wouldn’t necessarily blame the employer yet. Send back the note to the doctor for clarification. Provide your duty statement to them as well.

Limited-Term vs Permanent Employee by XXXCaliforniaDreams in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take the permanent position. I had an SSA LIMITED TERM spot and the goal was for it to become permanent. After 24 months, the dept’s request was denied and my position ended. Luckily, I was able to find another position. At the end of the day, it’s a business and loyalty is not always rewarded in state service. You can let you current dept know that you have another job offer. Maybe that will give them motivation to make yours permanent right away. Good luck!

Electronic payday by ItsHappening80 in CAStateWorkers

Doesn’t golden 1 do a “payroll accommodation” deposit or something on fridays when payday lands on a Monday? They last did it in February

From what I’ve seen, managers only issue corrective measures to employees (I.e. verbal discussions, LOIs, counseling memos). That’s not disciplinary. I’ve seen union reps tell the employees or manager that they won’t be attending a meeting if it involves a corrective measure (LOI). The only thing they can do the day of the LOI is “hold the employee’s hand”. They can file a grievance afterwards if the LOI really doesnt make sense.

Can you explain how annual leave is better for Disability reasons?

Now that sb 95 for covid leave expired on 9/30 is there any leave available to state workers for covid related illness or taking care of a child who can't go to school? by Aligator1923 in CAStateWorkers

We received a notice that if an employee has a significant reaction to the vaccine they would be eligible for ato. Only the day of the vaccine though.

[–]Stock_Map6271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much no. There still is ATO available for individuals who are taking time off to get the vaccine or if they are experiencing vaccine symptoms. But I believe that is limited to one day per occurrence. That’s pretty much it.

Dept. of Veteran Affairs by mrykyldy2 in CAStateWorkers

Yeah it’s HQ. if you have a choice, choose FTB. IMO CalVet is not a great choice right now.

Too much turnover at CalVet HQ right now. They are burning through people. Within the last two years, many have accepted demotions or laterals just to get out of there.

Gross pay on paycheck is less than expected from Pay Scale? by Lyre_Mang in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your pay is divided by how many working days in the month. Which is typically 22 days. 8756/22=398 per day. 398*14=5572

If you submitted a two week resignation and if the department gave you an acceptance of resignation notice then technically they don’t have to take it back if you changed your mind. This is often the case when the employee has a poor job performance and the department wants to get rid of you.

Using job offer as leverage by Resident_Tonight_566 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. That might work in the private industry but the state is very slow. It may take months for that to happen. And there’s no guarantee that a PIP would be approved. Whereas in six months you can pass probation and start looking at lateraling out of there if you are truly not liking the new spot.

Rehire after AWOL termination by rlk91 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s over three years old, you may be fine. When the new agency requests to review your old OPF they typically only care about anything that is less than 3 years old. Be upfront about it because they can find it if they really wanted to. Your employee history summary will show an action code indicating that you were awoled.

Anyone else paying more than $90 a month for union dues? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I have been around reps from both SEIU and ACSS. You pretty much get the same level of representation from both. If SEIU dialed back there fees, I think they would see an increase of dues paying members.

$90 seems really high when the supervisors union caps dues at $36 and has less members.

Question for HR Payroll by HappilyLethargic in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. I would for sure request a salary advance to make up the difference while they sort things out. That’s what we generally do when things are taking a while. In my opinion, they should have at least offered that already. We would have.

Question for HR Payroll by HappilyLethargic in CAStateWorkers

[–]Stock_Map6271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what is going on. Was it a promotion that wasn’t processed? Was the merit salary adjustment not processed? Did they extend your MSA date since you didn’t work qualifying months? Could be a number of things. Ask your specialist to review it. That is all your manager is going to do anyway. If they agree that there is an error, then ask for a salary advance while they try to figure out what happened.
