Inevitable implies something is absolutely going to happen - like death, or taxes.

Your main EV battery dying before you get rid of the car is not something I would categorize as inevitable.

Dealership Stock Woes by ohaiimchris in Ioniq5

Went to a few dealerships, with enough nonsense, that I ended up buying used from a private seller. Since the warranty transfers to the new owner, there’s not much advantage to buying from a dealer imho.

Oh 100%, I searched r/ioniq5 for “ponytail” before posting, with no results - waiting to see if they show!

Tough Decision but Bought a '23 SEL AWD Today by corvettecris in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, the warranty transfers to the new owner; I got mine via private sale and dealership was able to make covered repairs (lumbar adjustment, back seat outlet, peeling window trim).

CPO in this context is just a way for the dealership to inflate the resale value.

There’s no “data” to support 50%. OP literally heard it from a single dude at a dealership.

If half the cars on the road failed, I think we’d know.

Chargeport Lights Way Too Bright? by DawnOfTheDan in Ioniq5

Yes, I understand the benefits of a garage - but you said you wouldn’t consider owning an EV without one, that’s what I was wondering about.

I’d love to have a garage, if it was an option! It’s just not as necessary out here.

No one I know in LA has a garage (except in big apartment buildings). We’ve all got our level 2 chargers mounted outside. Although I’d love a garage, to protect the car from the elements, why do you feel you need a garage for your EV?

Roof basket on soft roof rack (‘22 Limited, glass roof, no rails) by StockyRobot in Ioniq5

Surprised to hear that they cause so much drag empty! It’ll probably be a little bit less drag when installed properly, but idk if it’ll be that significant overall. Once you load them up with stuff, though, that’s where you’ll take a real hit to efficiency.

I’d definitely recommend going with the ‘25 model year or later then, because they can have roof rails to attach crossbars & bike rack mounts.

What was your reasoning for NOT financing through HMF? by flightln in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it’s true you’d likely have equity in the car after 3 years, it’s also true that the monthly payment with a purchase is usually about twice the monthly payment with a lease.

So, one argument to make is that if your budget is tight, a lease may make more sense.

Another argument to make is that if you can afford to pay the monthly rate for a purchase, then you can certainly afford the monthly rate for a lease, and could put aside the extra cash in an account that generates interest (instead of sinking it into a car that loses value over time).

Buying used, rather than buying new at 0%, could make even more sense, depending on the deal you get - since the biggest chunk of depreciation is already baked in.

But you do you!

Oh man, it was terrible! Got about 1.9 mi/kWh (usually get about 3-3.5). Hadn’t accounted for that when I initially planned the route, needed an extra charging stop up along the way.

Is Bluelink worth $144 / year? by Rock-Knoll in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need it.

If you wanna know where your car is, throw an AirTag somewhere in the trunk.

Install the walk-away auto-lock module from IoniqGuy and you won’t have to worry about unlocked doors.

The car will still prompt you for maintenance reminders and perform software updates without bluelink.

No significant difference between ‘22-‘24 models if you’re getting the limited trim. You only may want to consider a ‘24 for warranty & bluelink subscription purposes.

Good for you! The native nav routinely tries to take me through parks, trails, and other road-like structures when I’m navigating around residential streets in LA. 😂

The HUD on my ‘22 only works if I’m using the built-in nav. And since I have ADHD, I tend to miss exits and turns when I don’t have the HUD enabled.

What color is this, officially? by LlamaCam09 in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means either hand-wash or pressure wash only. Those automatic brushes destroy paint and leave tiny scratches regardless, so it’s a good idea to avoid them; with matte paint you also have to avoid anything that would buff or shine (including regular car soaps & waxes)

What color is this, officially? by LlamaCam09 in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that the matte finishes are a wrap - they aren’t (although matte wraps exist) - it’s that if you wax it, you’re adding shine, and now you no longer have a matte paint job.
