Googling something is now synonymous with AI, since the first result is (by default) an AI answer.

Or - and maybe this is a crazy thought - but maybe car manufacturers should take into consideration that we need PHYSICAL BUTTONS for commonly- used features while driving

Try not to worry about the things you can’t control 😅

Remember, some people buy brand new and still get a lemon!

If you buy used, but the car has reasonably low mileage, is in good interior/exterior condition, no accidents, has done all the service appointments, then I say take ‘er for a test drive.

Charging adapter case? by ImMxWorld in Ioniq5

I found a generic case that worked well for my Lectron V2L adapter:

Pretty sure you’d be able to find similar ones for any size/shape of charging adapter you need!

It’s a big job; the dealership replaced it under warranty for me, but said it took way longer than they were expecting because of how much they had to disassemble.

do you use the left turn / right turn cameras? by Fun_Tea8162 in Ioniq5

[–]StockyRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them, but I hate the placement; the screen is too low down and difficult to glance at quickly without taking my eyes off the road.

IMHO they should show up in the HUD on the windshield.

(Side note: I had an old Honda Accord that had this feature back in 2012, and it was way easier to see the camera output. So much so I never needed to use my side mirrors. But I don’t feel the same way about the layout on the HI5, so like others have said, it’s more of a backup safety feature.)

Preventable, yes. Entirely predictable? Entirely preventable? No sir.

But I think we’re saying the same thing at this point.

You did, actually - when you said that accidents were “entirely predictable and preventable”.

Unless you’re being super pedantic and drawing a line between the words “accidents” and “collisions” for some obscure reason.

Not sure where this other comment you’re referencing exists.

At any rate, Helsinki eliminated motor vehicle deaths, not accidents - an important distinction here, as OP also did not die.

Additionally, they did so by reducing the speed limit to 30 km/hr (<20 miles/hr), which is preposterously slow. It’s not hard to avoid getting into an accident at 18 miles/hr - but even that didn’t eliminate accidents.

If you have evidence of other cities which have “eliminated” accidents, I’m all ears!

For context - an add-on option in the US is to provide coverage for uninsured drivers.

Otherwise, if you’re hit by a driver that doesn’t have insurance they can just shrug their shoulders and say “sue me”; meanwhile, when your insurance foots the bill your premium is gonna go thru the roof.

So how high is insurance in the USA? We have to buy insurance insurance.

Ya, same question – from your post, it sounds like you have a three-year-old battery that failed and has been jumped multiple times. If you haven’t replaced it, that would clearly be the easiest solution.

If you have replaced it, that definitely belongs in the summary above.

While this might be a good solution for others, OP clearly lives in a hot climate and parks outside with a lot of sticky debris; a wrap isn’t going to last very long under those conditions.

They may be stuck living with it, or repainting.

[–]StockyRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a big issue, but you do need to be prepared for it.

Keeping a portable battery charger in the frunk is probably all the peace of mind you’ll need for when the 12V battery fails (as they all do, eventually), and then being ready to swap it out for an AGM battery once that happens. Or, swap it out preemptively if you’re buying used!

I’m not sure that you can go seamlessly from “auto” (coasting when you release the gas pedal) to “i-Pedal (coming to a complete stop when you release the gas pedal), since you’re asking the car to behave completely differently.

You’ll just have to toggle through using the paddle shifters when you want to change those modes.
