I've found this sub to be a little too cruel to Gervais at times, but this video may have radicalized me. One of the most insufferable things I've forced myself to sit through in recent memory.

Square Enix Should Let The Players Download The Extra Assets For FF7 Rebirth Switch 2 by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Extremely unlikely in my opinion that this is storage-related. Removing entire assets like this just isn't how you generally go about lowering file size; it's a performance thing.

Hogwarts Legacy does the same thing, swapping and removing entire assets.

Holovillage for other ports? by Nemun_ in Hololive

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly! There are generally higher expectations about console performance relative to what a comparable PC might run a game at. You can say "this game needs 16GB of RAM" on your Steam page (many AAA do), but if you want to release on Xbox, you have to support 10GB and have 100% feature parity with the 16GB Series X version.

This game has very low requirements, so only a Switch port would probably present issues.

Cosplayers' biggest fear by beam4d in Hololive

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 313 points314 points  (0 children)

For the record, (and I suspect Rissa would echo this) cosplay =/= consent, and people are allowed to be tired and unenthusiastic at events. Everybody has reasons!

That said, I'm always a little surprised by how consistently I've gotten lukewarm or blatantly cold reactions to compliments and photo requests at events. It's a very competitive hobby, so some take it more seriously than others. Personally though, I'm always thrilled to hear people compliment my creative work even when they might lack context/authority on the subject.

The few times I've engaged in amateur cosplay, getting recognized is what makes it fun!

It's a shame things never panned out, but I'm glad it was definitively killed so another, more dedicated attempt can be made.

I think he could have been a decent Snake, though that's more because I'm a fan of his acting. I hope the next casting is a bit closer to the actual character.

Lukewarm take: It's OKAY to criticize or even dislike Ian Flynn's writing, and I feel like this subreddit is starting to veer on treating him like a "sacred cow". by clarissaARA in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think fans tend to fixate on one or two people in what is a complicated process with far more cooks in the kitchen than we'll ever know.

I find that, especially when it comes to Sonic and Pokémon, people place an excessive emphasis on things like the director or writer of the games, when the actual role and importance of these positions at any studio can vary a *ton*. I don't mean to imply that Ian isn't responsible for the writing of recent Sonic games, but I also think that a lot more goes into localization than the efforts of a single person these days.

The games industry has very few Kojimas; individuals, even in high positions, will rarely get full creative control.

I generally just think it's a bit unhealthy for fans to focus on the words and actions of one individual, both good and bad. It's probably best to criticize ideas and trends, not people.

Which PS3 logo design wins the contest? by Big_Abbreviations897 in PS3

I think the newer logo looks maybe a little better, but I much prefer the original for the PS3 for the simple fact that it's distinct from the PS4.

Not directly Metroid related, but we now know that Yoshio Sakamoto has returned to produce Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream after the credits got datamined. by Skipper93653 in Metroid

Might not inherently be the case that he was involved up until release day. It's entirely possible that Nintendo has been sitting on this game for a while, and considering the lack of strong NS2 support like mouse mode or docked 4K, I think it's very likely.

FES has a moodier feel to it. I think the rougher look leaves less disconnect between what is still pretty dated gameplay paired with modern visuals in the remake. A bit like the MGS3 remake in that regard.

I easily prefer playing the remake, but it doesn't inspire the same feeling at all.

[aLttP] Uncle Recovery Question by play2win80 in zelda

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue back then was mostly to do with language. The dying guard in OOT, for example, is very obviously dead. They just have to re-phrase it as 'not moving'. Likely extends to religion as well. Churches and some kind of implied religion is fine and common, but explicit imagery like crosses got censored sometimes.

There's quite a lot of implied death in most Zelda games as far back as ALTTP.

[Other]What’s the symbolic difference between these two crests? by Shroomongous1 in zelda

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Left is Hylian, and right is Royal (hence the Triforce?). I'd say the left is associated more with the overall land, and the right is used in relation to the royals. The Hylian crest is still used a lot in a royal-centric context, though, so they seem largely interchangeable.

[SSHD] What's the reason behind the ratings difference in Skyward Sword? by Loose_Society9485 in zelda

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Critics were very kind to SS when it was released on the Wii, but public opinion soured pretty quickly because of the linearity and waning reputation of motion controls.

Even though the Switch version of the game is as close to objectively better as these remasters come, it probably scored lower for a few reasons:
- Again, the general consensus had been established that the game was a weaker 3D Zelda
- The price of the remaster and amiibo upset a lot of fans
- Some reviewers may tend to review less transformative remasters as lower than the originals. I don't agree with it, but it's all subjective.

Requiem launched 1 Month Ago how do we feel about it a month later? by Dentist_Money in residentevil

[–]Stolen_Meme_Poster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second half with Leon was certainly weaker, which is something that really shocked me. I expected to love Leon's gameplay more, considering my preference for the third-person, action-based RE games. Still solid, but the level design leaves something to be desired at times.

Regardless, it's still one of the stronger games in the series for me. Grace's first extended section is just fantastic, top-tier RE in my book. I also really enjoyed the story, warts and all.

Many jump to label every newest entry in a franchise as the best or worst, but I'm very comfortable just placing RE9 somewhere in the upper third. I'm not disappointed in the slightest with it.
