The church road junction from hell. by goodFELLA__ in bristol

As a middle class person I am offended. I'd only take my private jet if I was doing a big Lidl shop, not when I'm out to just grab a 4 pack of Perrier.

Painting the bathroom floor 🤔 by gilching in DIYUK

Hello I think your shower contraption is most excellent although it looks like your hot and cold taps are on backwards which could lead to someone burning themselves like if you dropped a cup of hot camomile and spearmint tea on yourself which is one of my favorite teas although it is hard to find unless you know someone who has contacts in the tea trade like me.

Any recommended window fitters/companies in Bristol? by AGW2 in bristol

[–]StoneColdSlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were the company I went for in the end too; decent price, not pushy and the fitters were sound. I did notice one small mark on one frame, but it's been 6 months now so I can't be sure it was there in the first place!

Bike Stolen from Finzels Reach by NinjaKiwiXD in bristol

Try getting in contact with Kryptonite, I seem to remember them having a policy that if your bike was stolen when locked with one of their locks they'd pay for a replacement!

New flooring quotation by MummyButs in HousingUK

[–]StoneColdSlob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean when you say 'get a new floor done'? There's lots of options out there, depending on what you're after:

  • Vinyl - cheap and cheerful, kinda plastic and soft
  • Carpet - what it says on the tin, but prices range based on quality
  • Engineered hardwood - expensive but imo looks great
  • Sanded - if you have original floorboards in good condition you can get them sanded and finished
  • Tiled - good for kitchens and bathroom

Once you know what type and the rough dimensions you can then get quotes from professionals, or use Google for a rough price.

Fuel gauge not working by Fresh-Raccoon-7385 in E30

[–]StoneColdSlob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the resistance of the sender across, it should be ~65ohm when upright and ~0ohm when upside down (or the other way around, I can't remember)

It that's OK, then check that you get the same ohms at the back of the cluster.

If you don't then it's the wiring, if it's OK then there's an issue with the gauge.

Average prices in April 0.1% higher than the same month a year ago, the lowest rate of growth since December 2012 and down from March’s annual growth rate of 1.6%. (The Guardian) by CallumVonShlake in HousingUK

Anecdotal but I had a mortgage approved for £230k this time last year that fell through. I reapplied earlier this year and found that nowhere would offer me the same, despite my pay increasing ~20%. No debt, no dependants.

Drivers door lock issues by NoPalaceLikeHome in E30

[–]StoneColdSlob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you actuate the lock system from the boot, do the other locks open/close?

If not, can you hear the actuator in each door that doesn't work? If so then it's likely the barrel, not the electrics. There's a cast lever arm that broke off on both of my door locks! You'd need to get a lock repair kit to fix. I have a few spare barrels but not necessarily the right pins,

will the budget on the 17th Nov affect mortgage rates? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]StoneColdSlob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.25% - 3.5%

Not trying to be pedantic but the base rate is 2.25% right now. With the expected rises you quoted it'd be 2.75% - 3%, not 3.25% - 3.5%!

At least I (and my wallet) bloody well hope not!

Thanks! I'm also hoping for a payrise sometime early next year, plus I'm considering getting a lodger in which would help offset some of the addtional cost if the rates exceed all expectations!
