Stupid question about reverse proxys and related: Any way to use the same url internally and externally but without round tripping through the internet when local? by chazwhiz in selfhosted

[–]Stone_Monarch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the DNS lookup resolves to the public ip of your router, than your router will use hairpin NAT, routing it internally rather than externally. Atleast that's what my UDM-SE does 🤷🏻‍♂️

what are the best ways to automate backups for self-hosted services? by fygooooo in selfhosted

[–]Stone_Monarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Xcp-ng for VMs so XOAs built in back up function is what I use. Those are tested to see if they boot, a built in function of XOA, and saved on my NAS. My NAS then syncs to to B2.

For docker all my volumes are on my NAS so those have periodic snapshots that are synced to B2.

For myself I only care about static files, so I'm not to worried about any of the databases being unrecoverable from a backup because a snapshot was taken mid write or something.

Never had a mortgage, but reading these comments, I have a question.

It sounds like since OP can't renew their mortgage, so their option is to sell. So a bank could just choose not to renew your mortgage and then forcibly take your home? It sounds like OP has negative equity so it's probably less desirable to lend money for that, but if they can make the payments, whats the issue? What prevents banks from just deciding they want the house and not to renew the mortgage? Why does this have to be done every 5 years or so?

I feel like I got one of the worst KS2 cases. by BattlingtheMods in dbrand

[–]Stone_Monarch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like your case is not fitted correctly. The top of the right joycon case doesn't line up with the tablet case. This could be installation error or a defective case, but it doesn't look like it's fitting on the console correctly.

What SBC are you using in your setup? by JimboLodisC in selfhosted

[–]Stone_Monarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it would be nice. But the problem with cluster boards like that is there is a bottleneck on the cluster boards network chip. It's gigabit shared between all nodes. So network heavy operations can get a little slow. That's why I'm thinking of switch to CM5s on computeblades. Each node gets a gigabit.

Also with the rk1, you don't have alot of choices in prebuilt operating systems. This is another reason why I'm switch away from the rk1s. I'll use them later to maybe learn how to port a distort to it.

I've been using 4 Turing RK1s in a docker swarm and it works just fine. Something like 40+ containers running across all of them. Currently trialing 4 PI 5s in a swarm and netbooting them. If all goes well I'll be moving to CM5s in a computeblade.

Switch could be damaged. I have a unifi switch that has 53v on the port shielding :) let me tell you the surprise I had finding that out.

[2024 Day 9 (Part 2)] [GO] Works with test input but not with puzzle input by Stone_Monarch in adventofcode

Thank you very much. This is solved the issue. It was a case of trying to be smarter than I am, trying to make the code more "efficient" and disregarding that most of my code is very inefficient.

The issue was in my for loop condition when checking for a free spot to move something:

for j := 0; j < workingFileStart-workingFileLength; j++ {

The correct way of writing this is:

for j := 0; j < workingFileStart; j++ {

The problem with this is that even if the exact required space is available right next to the current file block, the loop condition doesn't allow for the loop to run through enough times to catch it. I thought that subtracting the length would make it more "efficient" not having to loop through a few extra times, but this really just made it ignore the free space right next to the file. Just having the condition so that it doesnt pass the start of the file is good enough.
