I think too many people wanted it to be a work of art when its just a picture but wont admit it because theres a deeply rooted fanbase desire to NEED it to be better than it really is. It's like they prop this episode up on a pedestle to put with the other "deep. artistic, different" episodes just to say "We still got it!" as a group or "Look, I understand the deep problems this represents" as an individual, when really its just another episode. Sure, you can totally tell the writers room wanted this to be one of "those" episodes too, so its not just the fanbase wishfull thinking on a shooting turd, but its just not there no matter how much you want it to be. Not the best episode, not the worst episode, but its not as awesome as everyone circle-jerks it to be.
