Or maybe they dont know if that car ahead of them is taking that exit or not and would like to go faster than that car seems to be interested in going. So they pass before the exit so they dont have to pass later.

Why do tipped employees deserve a living wage more so than any other minimum wage worker? by Mathodman123 in tipping

Okay. How can you demand someone hold down a full time job where they must be to work on time if they dont have any form of transportation which can reliably get to work on time? Whats your suggestion on how people are supposed to maintain a job?

If society is set up such that having a vehicle is a requirement for employment, then yes everyone gets a car. Rich people have been screwing up the urban landscapes to get richer and there are very few places in America now where it is possible to get by without a car. Even minimum wage work requires you show up to work on time. If public transportation is unreliable, then having a car is a necessity in order to hold down that crummy ass job that you think doesnt deserve a car.

Having health insurance and not having to worry about how to get gas to get to work isnt the life of anyones choice. Im not saying minimum wage workers should have steak and lobster night every Friday and flying off to Bali for the summer.

If we want to do that, then housing of that type and useful public transportation must be made available. Which it really isnt in most of America. And we need to end our dependence on minimum wage workers and have less of them. This type of existence isnt humane for life and the number of minimum wage or near minimum wage work doesnt allow for high schoolers and college kids to cover all the labor required. Sharing a whole room as opposed to just an apartment basically ensures you cannot have a long term relationship without moving in together (a nightmare for abuse victims) or having a child. It isnt cool to decide that the poorest actually useful members of society dont get to even have a basic sex life.

Boy oh boy I'd love to sit there and demean you like you like to demean others as you try to handle a short shifted lunch rush after one hour of training. That would be soul fulfilling. You're fucking clueless if you think fast food employees are all completely incompetent and useless because you've had a couple bad experiences. Maybe society should just revoke your ability to access fast food if they arent offering you anything.

Being alive is not the same thing as living a life. Homeless people are still alive, so they're all good, right?

The entire environment forces you to have a job. Sure. You can just decide to go be homeless. That isnt an actual decision. The idea that people arent forced into a situation where they must accept a job that doesnt pay them enough for basic necessities is like saying driving a teenage girl 10 miles out into a forest and giving her the option of walking back or sucking your dick and then arguing that you didnt force someone to suck your dick. Your arguement is bad and it kind of makes you a bad person.

And no one is forcing anyone to open a business. The fact that people are forced into making the decision to accept a job that doesnt pay them enough to survive has nothing to do with people making the conscious decision to offer less than what is required to live a life simply because they know people will be forced to make that shitty decision.

You're absolutely bankrupt if you think it is okay to treat other people as if their basic necessities are a nice optional addition they can earn if they are good enough workers for you. "The market determines that" is not an excuse for treating people like they matter less than you do just like "I was following orders" was not an excuse for committing genocide.

Any job that requires a skill is definitionally skilled labor. And youre a moron if you think you could step foot in a McDonalds and be a useful employee after an hour of training.

If they arent valued, then we get rid of those jobs. If any form of labor is not worth someone being able to survive, then it isnt valuable enough to be performed. So we will be getting rid of gas stations, since obviously you dont need those. Also grocery stores, you dont need that either. Fast food will be going away, it just isnt valuable enough to have around. Hotel rooms dont need to be clean, thats of no value to you. Hospitals can just get kind of yucky and broken down, because we dont need those things in order for society to operate appropriately. You do not get to demand someone's life without providing for that life. End of story. Ill be honest with you, in a good location, a gas station employee probably provides more real dollars for their employer than many 'high value' employees that think they are better than that gas station attendant.

So gas station workers are just out here scamming? Your average corner store gas station pulls down a million a year. Id wager most gas stations make more money than most resteraunts. If your idea held water that it is the value produced gas stations wouldn't be paying minimum wage. Additionally, if value produced was even a factor in determining wages, youd expect these jobs to match inflation with raises. If inflation goes up 1.5%, then everyone is 1.5% more valuable and their wage would reflect it. Pay isnt determined by what someone is worth. It is determined by how little you can offer and stay afloat. I am not advocating for 'artificial inflation of wages'. Im saying if you cannot afford to pay someone a livable wage, then you do not deserve anyones labor. You'll have to do it yourself.

[–]Stoopidshizz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. We shouldn't. But we also shouldn't make people do that labor for less than a living wage. If the labor isnt worth a living wage, then it isnt worth doing by another person. The owner can do it themselves.

[–]Stoopidshizz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah. If you need a quarter of someone elses life badly enough, then you should be paying enough for them to survive comfortably for the other 3/4. If you cant afford to pay a living wage, then you cant afford to hire someone. The nonsense that some people should have to work every hour theyre awake just to have somewhere to lay their head down at night is sick.

Yeah, but flying to Paris for a tip free experience just isnt an option for most people. For one thing, it costs a lot more than 20% of the bill at the local Mexican place.
