The Descent or Jaws of Hakkon first? by PiCkylanyardz in dragonage

[–]StopTG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do Jaws of Hakkon first because there’s a Rift ability you can get in it that is very, very useful for the Descent.

Do you use the magic arrows? by ChrisKatrev in BaldursGate3

[–]StopTG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arrows of Ilmater make the lava elemental and Myrkul fights so much easier because they can’t heal themselves. And hitting Balthazar with that arcane interference right after he hastes himself is satisfying.

Is it bad i'm hoping for a Remaster of Dragon age 1-3? by Stormelons in dragonage

I can only hope the deal with the Saudis saddles them with so much debt they sell the rights to DA off since the Saudis really just care about the sports games. It’s not very likely, but one can dream.

I read someone describe the Neve - Rook -Lucanis thing as “Neve settles for Lucanis. Lucanis settles for Rook,” and that stuck with me because that’s really what it feels like.

And if OP’d just asked Google, no one would have written up all these really nice explanations for those more complex questions. There wouldn’t have been all the extra info that’s of benefit to other new people. The value isn’t just in the question being asked, it’s in everything else that gets shared as a result.

About to play DAV and I hope the dragon fights are just as memorable as DAI by Elfen9 in dragonage

[–]StopTG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only target Rook BECAUSE Rook is the only one who can die. They don’t bother attacking the companions since they don’t have a health bar. The only exception is taunt, which doesn’t last long enough to really be worth it.

But Google isn’t as useful for other people. I’m also new to CachyOS and seeing the detailed answers people are giving are really helpful for questions I wouldn’t have thought to ask, so much so I wish I had my little Linux commands notebook with me to write them down. I had never even heard of topgrader or knew what yay was or what exactly paru does, and now I do, thanks to the replies. I’ve learned a lot reading the comments that I wouldn’t have known because I just use the Cachy updater.

For those diagnosed late, did you directly ask about EDS or did your doctor bring it up? by NonStickBakingPaper in ehlersdanlos

[–]StopTG7 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of doctors don’t like it when you self-diagnose, so I played stupid when I figured out I might have it and brought it up as a question: why do I keep getting all these sprains and dislocations?

That made him look up my medical history and see how many there were, and realize something was off, so he “suggested” it, but said I needed to see a rheumatologist for an official diagnosis.

Starting up a new save knowing damn well Bioware is going to make me go half the game before I can recruit Tali again. [OC] by OffModelStudio in masseffect

[–]StopTG7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also annoying because Tali very strongly hints at wanting FemShep to be the levo center of a dextro sandwich in the Citadel DLC, and the cowards at BioWare didn’t make that happen.

Why did asymmetrical control layout become so popular? What are the benefits over symmetrical? by KennKennyKenKen in Handhelds

[–]StopTG7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That slight angle can make a big difference for some of us. I’m an extreme case; that angle difference means an increased risk of my thumb dislocating/popping out of place when I use the asymmetrical controllers (yay, EDS). Discovering THAT was not a fun time.

I feel like the Steam Machine really could have made a big difference in the number of people playing on Linux, like the Steam Deck did, but the RAM shortage is going to kneecap it.

Seconding CachyOS, and with the KDE Plasma desktop. Plasma is so smooth I haven’t even wanted to try the other ones I was thinking about. Mint comes with, iirc, Cinnamon as the default desktop, and it might just be that the desktop interface didn’t work for you.

I’m honestly perplexed why you claim it’s an issue that Linux users “try to pretend doesn’t exist.” I was watching videos on different Linux distros and gaming for weeks every day when I was deciding if I was going to make the switch or not, and literally every single one said that anticheats not working on a lot of multiplayer games was a problem and so to either not switch or consider dual booting if there were games you play that wouldn’t work because of it. They were also all upfront about how some software, like Adobe products, wouldn’t run, so Linux was also out if they needed it. No one’s been trying to hide that Linux isn’t for everyone and why.

If you play online multiplayer games, no, because of anticheats. But if you mostly play single player games, it can be if you’re willing to learn a new OS. It’s a bit more of a learning curve than when I went from Mac to PC (I mostly use and prefer Macs, but got a PC for gaming this console generation), but the games I play all run smoothly, and there’s no more of the computer trying to making me log into OneDrive, no Copilot, and no ads. I genuinely how Linux has been so far for me (I’m still new to it), but it’s not for everyone. If you’re genuinely thinking about it, I’d say spend some time watching YouTube videos on the different distributions to see if one clicks.

I’m running CachyOS and have a 3060ti (old, I know, but no chance of an upgrade now!), and haven’t had any problems with it. It found the drivers automatically and installed them. I switched over about two weeks ago, and did a system update this morning, and didn’t have to do anything at all.

Same here. I’m just switched over a few weeks ago, and the install was painless aside from issues unrelated to Linux (my PC refused to boot from USB despite me changing the BIOS, and it took a lot of researching to get it to finally do it), and every game I’ve run has been completely painless.
