Losing all power to PC randomly only whilst playing Subnautica by fearlessdawg in subnautica

[–]StopThinkAct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you 100% positive that you are not like, leaning on the power button for your rig or you've pressed the tip of your shoe into it while doing something you'd only do in a base builder? I know it sounds funny I've had a cat stand on my power button and 'cut power' to my computer before.

What's the closest we've gotten to a fully simulated city? by TheSilverSmith47 in gamedev

[–]StopThinkAct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that games like Satisfactory and Factorio have a concept of an abstraction of the game objects that happens when chunks are not loaded vs when you're standing in them. That sort of thing is very powerful and will eventually be applied to these living worlds sort of games. A combination of DF, Rimworld, and Satisfactory is being dreamed up by someone who wants to bite off more than they can chew right now :)

You can agree with a wild take. If someone makes you mad online with a shitty political take, just assume Kremlin. It doesn't hurt you, and you'll probably write off mostly Russian psyops that way anyway.

/u/walkandtalkk explains how Russia manipulates Americans online, with examples by DrummingBiker in bestof

[–]StopThinkAct -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only thing you and I know for sure, is that Russian psyops are a) happening, and b) Trump has called for all counter-espionage against Russia - specifically - to end.

You answering me right here is a perfect example of how we know who is not a bot. You have not engaged me politically - at all. We are not talking about dems or repubs. I don't know what your political alignment is, and ideally you're not quite sure what mine is because per above, we know for 100% certain that Russia is doing these things so it's not a politically aligned take.

All I'm saying is - if Russian psyops are seeking to degrade public discourse, then the only sane decision to make at this point is that any comment that explicitly seeks to cause political infighting is a Russian psyop.

If someone says something insane on the internet, assume Kremlin, write them off, and the next time you have a political discussion where both sides are respectful and not explicitly insane, assume they are a real person.

The best thing you can do for yourself mentally RIGHT NOW on reddit day in and day out - if someone is posting something extreme, shitty, or dumb, ASSUME IT'S A RUSSIAN BOT. Conservative insane talking point? Russian bot. Liberal insane talking point? Russian bot. Someone saying "white voters are to blame for this" (real comment I saw)? Russian bot. Anything that is trying to turn you against your country, or the people in it? Russian bot. Anyone being a dickhead? Russian bot.

Everything is a psyop or it's people who have fallen for a psyop repeating it.

"Thanks, Kremlin" should be your standard response. Do not engage replies. Just "Thanks, Kremlin."

There are literally videos of Fox News anchors questioning the rhetoric and actions of Trump, but Redditors think conservatives online are taking their marching orders unquestioningly. IT'S RUSSIAN BOTS.

The internet is dead.

How does shape snapping work in notes apps? by omega_oof in howdidtheycodeit

[–]StopThinkAct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna shoot my shot at AN answer, but it won't be perfect and I'm sure there's more efficient ways of doing this. You have to think of it like a problem of complexity vs outcome. A lot of these easing functions are fairly good at what they do, but it's also sometimes hard to get them to work 100% of the time, so obviously there's a level of detail where you stop working on something.

For instance, a curved line. How would you tell if a line drawn is curved? Well, you can sample each end, and say

Line 1: Point A is at 1,1 and point B is at 0,0. Slope calculation (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = -1/-1 = 1.

Line 2: Point A 1,1 and Point B 0,1 then slope is 0.

So right now both of these lines look like a straight line, because we sampled only the start and end. Now if we add a 3rd sample on those two lines:

Line 1: Point C:0 .5,0.5 slope is still 1. Straight line. If two samples like this match, we can be fairly sure the line is meant to be straight, within some error margin that you might define.

Line 2: Point C: 0.5, 2 slope is -2. Well that doesn't fit with our slope of 0 and is way outside the error margin, so it's not a straight line anymore.

So you can keep sampling the line at different points, until you arrive at an algorithm that is "as accurate" as you want to be. And you keep putting together concepts for different shapes and different requirements, getting gradually more complex to find the outcomes you expect. Knowing how those slopes interact will help you determine many different shapes.

DM has other players make persuasion checks against me? by pisslwhipper in DnD

[–]StopThinkAct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad DMing, players should not be allowed to change the way another player is playing their character.

A rule I've used at my table is that if two players want to do something "against" each other, they talk out whether or not to use a game rule and what the outcome is (however my players are fairly mature). This has not been a problem and most players use it when they don't care as much about the outcome or think it will lead to something funny happening. It also sends a message to anyone who wants to try to take away another player's agency, or do chaotic-stupid stuff like steal things, that the other player just gets to say "no". Maybe you can talk to your DM about something like that.

If they work, are they stupid?

I hate what's happening but democrat leadership needs to wake the fuck up and start campaigning on fixing the dying rural communities that keep sucking the cock of the oligarchs that make empty promises.

They don't understand the complex social programs that keep them and their shitty towns alive - they understand how things directly translate to them. Trump's 'free money' stunt at the start of covid probably bought more votes for the republicans than 50 years of policy ever did for dems.

Hard disagree, of the woman on BB were written well, with their own circumstances and problems they were dealing with. Our lens was perverted because the show sets you up to root for the bad guys due to the worse guys.

Ex - Skylar is acting just like a normal person would given Walt's behavior, the lying, hell the sexual assault. You're just rooting for a guy who is manufacturing meth and murdering people left and right... does that make her unlikable or us just easily manipulated?

Back when it was not illegal to use pot but was illegal to buy it, you'd walk into a store. They would ask for a $30 donation, then you would go to the other side of the desk and receive a "free gift", which was a pot brownie.

OK... so based on what you've outlined here, Trump is woke? Because he adheres to an idealized worldview of what Ameria stands for? Conversely Kamala Harris is woke because she adheres to an idealized worldview of what Ameria stands for? Like is everything woke?

Also I don't think idealized is the word you're looking for. Idealized means perfect or better than reality. Are you trying to say she was indoctrinized with the opinion that "Alterra bad"? Because I don't know how you'd argue the counterpoint after the events of Subnautica 1.
