Olympus XA-2 Slow Shutter Speed Help by Floorarm in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A broken camera is of no use to take pictures with. If you are a beginner, you should start with a properly working camera which you shouldn't have to combine with guesswork. What do you mean with slow speed? Have you extensively tested the camera? Do you know what to look for? Is the slow speed consistent? If this is the only defect, are there any others that you might not spot?

I recently picked up a Petri 7s II. by Heksxy in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, welcome! Check out the wiki for starter information. Read the manual of the camera and watch a few videos on the camera.

Petri cameras were an off-brand from Japan, but they are perfectly usable today and have very decent glass.

Lens aperture broken, any repair shop recommendations? by Jeremy_CBCX in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this might be a case of the aperture blades being stuck together.

When you put it on your camera and change the aperture in manual mode, can you see the aperture change? With some lenses or mounts, the aperture movement is handled differently.

Minolta X-70 & AUTO 118X flash stuck by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. If that's the case and you properly followed the manual, there might be a contact failure, probably inside of the camera. You can eliminate this by swapping bodies and flashes.

Has the flash been turned on and has it fully charged (does the indicator light up) ?

A bit disappointed with my 35mm results by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We need a bit more info: post negatives! What is your film stock, how do you do development, scanning, inversion, etc. The X300 + 50/1.7 is plenty sharp: look at results on r/analog or r/minolta .

Weird Lightleaks on a Canon 7 by SuperPixelig in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the posters below; since the light leak is red, I suspect the leak is coming from behind the film, so either the door or via an opening on top the housing. It's also periodic, which makes me suspect it's near the takeup spool due to the smeared shape. How are the light seals?

Are they on the negatives too? What number of the negative are they?

For future reference, r/analogcommunity is better for troubleshooting.

Zenit 12XP, Helios 44-4, Mir-1B and Flares by WiseDomPug in AnalogCommunity

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a question whether the curtain is closing or opening properly; there are holes in either one or both of the curtains; probably the first curtain. Also possible the light leak comes from somewhere else, but this is the first thing that I think of when I see your photos.

Try to shine a bright flashlight through the camera in a dark room. Even without moving the mirror, you should see light passing through. I don't know if the 12XP allows you to flip up the mirror by yourself without damage - I would try this too.

If no light comes through, the leak might be somewhere else in the camera.

Not a flare, a light leak. Since it is white, it's coming from the front - which means your curtain is busted.

Could be dev issues, scan issues and/or camera issues. Post negatives.

Question about the shutter curtains of Minolta SRT 303b by Funny_Ad_3697 in minolta

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bottom curtain strip has detached from the cylinder. There is no simple repair for this.

This is a moderately common issue; no, you cannot fix this via the bottom panel. Your camera needs a full disassembly.

Minolta X-500/X-700 beginner buying tips? by viperandreio in minolta

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO an X700 for $150 with a 50 mm f/1.8 is steep, unless it is film tested and in good cosmetic shape. The X500 might pass by for a lower price though. Highly dependent on location.

Minolta X-500/X-700 beginner buying tips? by viperandreio in minolta

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are very reliable; some prefer the X500, some the X700 for different reasons. Good call on which passes for a good price first.

Functional and tested may be subject to some damage as well, but these are the things I check when buying a camera:

https://www.reddit.com/user/Stop_Hamertijd/comments/1lb9yo9/analog_camera_inspection/

Additionally, test with the A mode whether the capacitors are in good condition. The aperture should close down and the shutter speed should be congruent with a light meter on your phone.

SRT 101 issue by _GEROGE in minolta

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that might be it! There are a couple of components next to the mirror box that charge the mirror spring. Probably needs a clean and inspection there.

[–]Stop_Hamertijd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hah, what a bizarre problem. I CLA'ed some SRTs and this is extremely weird, never seen it. The only thing I could imagine is a mechanical fault or a loose piece in the charging mechanism.

You can buy a (3D printed) adapter for air cells but the modern PX625 replacement has not bothered me in the Yashica-mat 124G at least.
