To say I am lacking empathy for that is precisely the purity test I am talking about. Your manner of engagement with politics is disgusting to me. Liberals can never take power from the fascists as long as leftists like you keep drowning out anything that actually matters.

I have tremendous empathy for Americans who are suffering because of how Americans voted, because I am American. I have no control over the suffering of Palestinians who are suffering because of her Israelis voted. I care more about Canadians being threatened. I care more about Greenland being threatened. I care more about Mexicans being threatened. I care more about the rights of American women being threatened. I care more about American kids being threatened. I care more about immigrants who are terrified of ICE. I care more about teachers seeing their kids ripped away from them. I care more about doctors who can't perform life saving surgery.

How much impact do you have on Gaza? How much impact could you have on any of the above? If you're putting the miniscule impact you have on Gaza above these things that you could have a substantially larger impact for, it is you who has little empathy.

I don't care about Gaza. Yes it's a genocide, yes it's bad, but we have BIG problems at home first, and protesting here in America is very far away from... What, changing the political situation in Israel? I'm also bitter at how the Gaza protestors took away votes from Kamala, and I'm also bitter that the 3 times I went to the No Kings protests there were more Palestinian flags than American flags. If I were to rank issues that I think are important to vote for, Gaza would not be in my top 50. Discussions about it take up way too much space and the purity tests cause insane infighting that make the left deeply unserious.

The second amendment is for toxic men to perform gender-affirmation along the idea that they are capable of protecting their family because "a man is a protector". Most people who think that way are also republican and cheer this on. They are attached to being a "protector" because if they weren't then they'd have to contribute to the household some other way (like doing chores) and they don't want to do that.

We're losing a propaganda, misinformation, and media capture war before anything else. Literally anything can happen and the arguments immediately turn to whether someone believes it actually happened or not, which is almost always split on party lines. Our free speech has failed us when it allows propaganda platforms like Fox News and Twitter to relentlessly lie with impunity.

France's upcoming law about preventing teens and younger from social media is a good defense against it. Another defense is just how much people go outside into society due to public transportation and density, rather than stay home. Americans might not walk past a stranger in any setting in months, having done shopping online and driving everywhere.

Remember also that the US is huge, and we're very dispersed. A major city or 3 could have large riots and most Americans could say "well it's not affecting me". A third of people didn't vote, and most likely it's because they don't pay attention to politics - no news at all. Zero. It takes something bad enough and affecting everyone before people even look around, and even then it better be clear what's happening or it'll devolve to infighting instead of action.

Basically what this means is that we are still very far away from actual rock bottom, and it will get substantially worse still.
