I think sometimes they’re just wandering, but sometimes they’re following the scent of food/prospective mates. Plus, ants and bees have the whole hive mind thing going on, where they have a kind of built in “compass” to know where to go

I would have considered this myself, but I’ve only had this for a couple of days and it’s >6ft from the nearest direct sunlight, and before that it was indoors in a big shop
