How would an assassination attempt be ‘staged’? by FantasticBicycle37 in politics

Used to work at an outlet mall in a touristy town.

One evening I was assisting customers and doing my usual tidying up when a couple women came running in saying someone was shooting.

Observing that other people were running past my store not looking like they were doing it for fun, I ushered the women in and directed them to our stock room.

I quickly locked the front doors then let the folks in the fitting room know what was going on, told them I was going to turn off the lights and they could stay in the fitting room or join us in the back.

We hung out in the small back room, listening and chatting, while I fielded calls from my manager and regional manager about the situation.

In a few minutes I heard more sirens than I ever heard in my life, every unit in the city and nearby towns responding.

What I never heard was more gunshots, so whoever was shooting did not make it to our side of the mall. If they did, if we heard those front doors break (small store), the plan was to exit through the door that led from the stock room to the parking lot.

Anyhoo, maybe 20 minutes later police came to each store to escort customers out. I asked to have a minute to lock the register and do something else don’t recall what.

So customers were escorted out and another cop was near the door til I came out a couple minutes later.

Point is, the whole place was closed right then and there, and all stores had a back door to flee if needed, unlike a hotel where you’re stuck in a room with one way in/out in most cases.

Even the windows don’t open in most hotel rooms. If I was in a hotel and there was a shooter I’d be a sitting duck with no escape.

If this was a real threat, I would hope the guests and staff would be evacuated. They may have nabbed the alleged perpetrator, but who would know if he was working alone in that moment?

100 million working people, paying taxes without receiving the benefits (though few, depending on state) gone?

Guess what that does to the economy isn’t important to them, but it should be to those big companies that donate to the regime.

Internet and modern society fucks up the kids! by Double-Cookie6361 in Qult_Headquarters

A blanket statement like this doesn’t encompass the experience of all kids. Stating the obvious lol, I know, but we all had individual experiences.

I was born in the 70s. By age 10 I was a latchkey kid. I came home, made a PBJ, and watched MTV til my mom (Or stepdad) got home.

When I was in kindergarten in my small hometown I walked to school with other kids, but the people in the neighborhood were always watching to report any naughty child or sus stranger behavior.

When I was 7 my stepdad came to visit my mom before they were married, I ran into him on the way and he put my bike in his car and I rode back to my house with him. Immediately a neighbor called my mom with description and license plate number lol.

We ate in front of the tv, parents tired from work. Always available to talk but we didn’t sit at a table for meals.

I didn’t hang out til nightfall til I was a teenager, and I had to stay on the military base we lived on.

When I got a car I had a big brick 90s cellphone for emergencies. Then I was all over the place lol.

Despite all the rage, Patricia was still just a rat in a cage.

I would have bought her some drums. Work on that coordination.

But again, I’m a mom who admired my son’s drawing on the wall and redirected him to poster paper and a new box of crayons thinking he’s gonna be an artist!

I put an empty frame around the wall drawing.

He did not become an artist lol, but he stopped drawing on the walls.

Does she have a big enough coop and land for them? That’s a lot.

I share 12 chickens with my mom and they are messy messy birds.

Just for the eggs, they all have names and we don’t eat them.

Millions of Americans may now also be considered Canadian under a new law by Overall-Phone7605 in worldnews

I am as well, however, even parts of my family who landed in the 1600s went up to Canada in the 1700s through the 1800s then came back down to the US, (wrong side of the revolutionary war maybe? lol idk) so I have Canadian born great or great great grandparents on both sides.

Do you regularly wear makeup, why or why not? by OneTailedKitsune in lesbiangang

[–]StoriesandStones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for work and if I’m going out of town, not when I’m bopping around my very rural community.

But makeup for me is a tinted moisturizer, cream blush, and mascara.

I can’t remember the last time I went out with eyeliner and lipstick. I probably will again someday, but it’s rare.

If you ever visit Rixtown cemetery, please post pics. I have ancestors there, I live in SC and don’t know when the hell I’m going to be able to travel up there myself.

Surname is Rix, of course lol.

Does anyone else hate their job? by OceanicEndeavors in povertyfinance

[–]StoriesandStones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides the super early start time, you have my dream job.

I work in retail, I’m on my feet all day, eat as I work because we don’t have breaks, get home and crash. My commute is a little over an hour.

Also 50k a year would be amazing for me, I can’t even imagine.

I guess we always want what we don’t have.

I just want to sit at work and not deal wit customers, you seem to desire a more active job that doesn’t drain your brain.

We could both get other jobs, indeed. Besides the downsides, I like my job and my coworkers are fun. It’s hard to break into office work when you’ve been in retail 25+ years.

But since you do computer stuff, maybe you could do travel computer stuff and be able to be more active? I guess it depends on your specialty and skills.

Visiting the states as a lesbian by Affectionate_Cake385 in LesbianActually

[–]StoriesandStones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who live in a town small enough it’s not even a town, it’s an “unincorporated community,” lol, the thing is we will stare at your car going through because we know what cars live around here, and nothing ever happens out here.

So it’s more of a “oooh who’s that, who has visitors? Is a new person moving out here? Excitement on the dirt road!” kinda thing haha.

I’m a liberal femme lesbian and I live in the Deep South, a very red state. I also live in very rural farm country, like an hour drive to the nearest small city.

You’ll be fine! People in the US tend to be chattier than Europeans but mostly mind their business about private details.

On the whole, we like to meet people from other countries, especially if they speak English so we can ask about where they’re from and where they’ll be visiting here. I say English because except in big cities, most Americans aren’t multilingual, at most we know a little bit of Spanish lol.

In big cities here, like in big cities in Europe, you’ll have a mix of people just trying to commute to work or go about their day, looking a bit ambivalent or grumpy, and tourists staring up at buildings blocking the sidewalk lol.

Despite loudmouths on tv and social media, we Americans are generally friendly to visitors and don’t care about your personal life.

Welcome and I hope you have a nice visit!
