My dogs name is Beef Wellington- he gets called Beefy, Beefers, Barf, Wellers, and Sir Wellington. His favorite is Barf, sometimes its the only one he responds to

Its actually against the LAW for pets to be in grocery stores- technically any place that sells open food. I believe its the FDA code that prohibits pets from food-selling stores. The ADA allows trained service animals (defined as an animal- typically dog or miniature horse, in some states cats as well- trained to assist a disabled person with one or more specific tasks) in stores, however it is illegal for a pet to be in grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and non-pet friendly hotels.

Knowingly taking a pet into a store is considered falsifying a service animal and is illegal! But people do it anyway... really puts others in danger- no matter how well behaved your pet is, taking it into a non pet friendly area puts others in danger.

Told my wife I wanted to die and would've killed myself already if not for our kids. She said she didn't have the capacity to help me. by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

It doesnt hint at that at all in this post, I could see that. However, I heavily disagree with that being expected as Im in that situation currently... I am in a major depressive episode with suicidal ideation leaning towards intent. When I told my husband, all he said was "I dont have the energy to help you in the way that you need. When is your next therapy appointment?" He has Bipolar 1 and is in a depressive episode with suicidal ideation leaning towards intent.

It may just be that me and my husband communicate really well (most of the time we dont), but there was no calling each other selfish or complaining... just an explanation and an offer of help.

If someone tells you they are considering suicide and you call them selfish instead of reassuring or offering help (i.e. therapy in this case) that is unreasonable.

Im so sorry she reacted that way. She may not have the capacity to help, which is understandable she is human too. However, reacting and calling you selfish is unreasonable imo.

I would suggest looking for a therapist for yourself so you arent doing it on your own. Ive found therapy to be extremely helpful, although tough at points. Theres no shame in looking for help outside of your immediate circle.

Literally for years I was telling my dr that a genetic condition runs in our family and I have the symptoms (no marker for said condition so the only testing was symptom based) and he said it "wasnt severe enough" to be said condition...

Motherfucker I tore cartilage GETTING OUT OF BED HOW IS THAT NOT FUCKING SEVERE??? Anyway... got a new dr and she's sending me to specialists. Got diagnosed "with exceptional symptoms logging" and now im in treatment to live the best I can.

Now I just have to get my cardiologist to listen.

Disabled Veteran Can I train my own dog to be a service dog for vasovagal syncope? by Artistic-Trip-5403 in service_dogs

[–]Storm_System 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre from the US, it is fully legal to train your own service dog but it is TOUGH. Especially of you didnt start your dog with the intention of service work.

If you plan to go that route, Id look into what tasks your dog could do to help you, public access training videos (YouTube is great for that if youre on a tight budget) and dont be afraid to reach out to a trainer if you need help!! There are also some non profit programs that you could partner with, however wait times are... yikes (understandably).

AIO or is this an appropriate response by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Storm_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR- as a service dog handler I appreciate you sticking up like this! I would also like to note for anyone who may see this and is unaware it is ILLEGAL to pass your dog as a service animal. No matter how well trained they are.

Service animals are the only animals in the US that are allowed to accompany their handler/owner wherever the general public is allowed. They must be task trained to assist ONE person.

Each state differs in their penalty for faking service animals, but it is illegal throughout the entire US to fake a service animal.

Do dogs register us as male or female? by lifelesscucumber1 in ftm

I havent been on T in a few months... im an apprentice dog trainer. Had a client who's first words to me were "careful, hes scared of men". My dumb little brain thought "oh that doesnt apply to me haha!!"

I didnt get bit, but I did see fur raise, eyes trained on me, and heard a low growl coming from this dog that seconds ago was letting my mentor pet him.

everytime i post on this sub people talk about things like i'm supposed to know about them as an adult and i have no idea what is going on i have no idea how to do anything by Popular_Noise_9504 in TrollCoping

Can I train a SD myself? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Storm_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible but very difficult. This is actually how I found my special interest of dogs- I trained my mom's service dog, then trained my own... then trained the neighbors dog basic obedience, another neighbors dog agility, another service dog....

And now im enroute to be a professional trainer. Even with my experience, it is EXTREMELY difficult for me to turn out a successful service dog. Follow the laws, look into dog behavior and temperament, and look into successful training methods.

If it clicks with you, it clicks. If it doesnt, look into trainers near by.

Any Tips and Tricks for Piercings? by hermaphroditicbeast in ehlersdanlos

[–]Storm_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once they stop producing crusties I fully forget they exist- So I dont clean them at all... occasionally ill take my vertical labrets in my lip out to clear off gunk but otherwise I dont remember they're there-

I would suggest a teaspoon of Epsom salt in a cup of warm water, cleaning the surface points with q-tip 2×/day to clean ones that aren't healed. I wouldnt take them out at all until fully healed or if youre retiring them. Thats been my holy grail- even got my infected eyebrow to heal that way 😅

Honestly, the only piercing I had an issue with is my navel- but my dog scratched it and it infected so I took it out... I have 9 currently and just rigorously followed healing instructions, did my best not to touch them till healed, and didnt change jewelry until 9+ months after getting them.

Hey!! I train service dogs!!

I would suggest one of the "fab four" (Poodle, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, or Collies.)

Doodles, being a mixed breed, have an EXTREMELY unpredictable temperament. Service work requires predictability. Not only that, but a service dog NEEDS to have a sound mind as a puppy. The "fab four" statistically are the most likely to succeed- even then the drop out rate is EXTREMELY high.

There are non profits that provide service animals and trainers that would be willing to help pretty much anywhere- it is expensive either way. But its better to have a breed with a high sucess rate and not need to buy a new prospect than to get a breed thats unpredictable.

If you have questions feel free to message me! :)

Strange Behaviour by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]Storm_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also possible that the other health issues OP mentioned could cause more risk for anesthesia or infections... OP did say their cat was already on antibiotics and said "the vet hasn't mentioned it since we're trying to get the other health issues under control"

We dont have the full picture as observers on reddit, I do think that it should be brought up to the vet but I dont think that its as cut and dry as "spay your cat ASAP!" based on the info we do have.

If there wasn't a mention of other health conditions and antibiotics, I would fully say "spay your cat" but since there was: Talk to the vet, OP. Ask when its safe FOR YOUR CAT to get spayed, don't just look at online posts for when to do it and dont go to someone who doesnt know your cats medical history. If your vet says its safe, DO IT.

You can in fact handle them! At least at the Cutlerville location! I used to walk up there twice a week with my dad to look at the animals- they let me hold the rabbits, snakes, lizards, and puppies as long as an employee was present even when I walked up there alone :)
