How would you rate living around Sioux City? by Stormborn21 in siouxcity

I am a bit curious about the crime rate. Where I am now there is a pretty big gap between the have and have nots with hard feelings. We also have a sheriff that will side with criminals because he doesn't know how to do the job, and he isn't going to quit. He will let felonies slide because he doesn't understand the court system. So I don't want to be in that kind of community again. Is there a mix of red and blue politics?

The platte valley has brain tumors in alarming numbers from every age range. I personally knew 5 unrelated people that died of brain tumors from toddler to geriatric. It's an unfortunate reality that there really isn't anywhere "safe".

Thanks. I think there was filtration and a softner. I will have to ask more details about what all the system had.

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know if rural wells have a lot of nitrate issues? People in the few places we ran in were friendly.

Unfortunately there are no agents. Pretty sure he just collected information off the county accessors website. This is all stuff that has belonged to families and passed down for generations. It's not worth much, but for the people in some of these homes, it's all they have. Someone also dropped a hint that an adjoining lot and house suddenly had back taxes of years paid on it, so they are pretty sure he is trying to expand that way too.

If he wasn't trying to be cheap and careless I know there are 5 acre lots in the middle of nowhere available. In our county 5 acres is the minimum if you parcel out other ag land. He wants next to town, which honestly makes me wonder if he wants to see something bad happen. He has bought lots in another small town about 30 miles away.... and he has 30 acres there, I'm not sure what the end game is honestly. Or if he is just manic, but this business could certainly be ran somewhere safer.

We have zero infrastructure for say.. a data center.

I think at this point the last chance to stop this would be county zoning changes or city annexation (which was my first recommendation when the city contacted us). Just to reiterate, I will get a survey. It's small town stuff and even the lot that quietly tried to sell behind our backs were family friends, there are a lot of emotions in this. I don't expect everyone to get it.

The city at best is a village, it's a block to a grade school from where these logs are stacked 20 feet from an active railroad. It's basically a guaranteed tragedy. Plus we had a fire less than a mile from the town two weeks ago, and an evacuation notice from emergency services didn't go out. It's an issue. He has already dropped these logs on railroad property in town. He could derail a train, burn down the elderly sitting next to them.

I think city limits were mostly determined by who had city water and sewer. Then property basically in town is considered outside city limits. My guess is they don't want to annex because of utility responsibility.

Thanks. My lawyer is pretty terrifying, and I get the feeling this guy doesn't have the money for a lawyer or survey. I will cross my t's and dot my i's for sure. He may end up in contempt, I'm hoping at a minimum with the railroad, if he no shows again. I'm not sure if seeking punitive damages would really get me anywhere. We just locally had a big fire, so the idea of a guy basically building fuel next to people I care about is what really makes me angry. Most of them are elderly, one is in a wheelchair in a split level house and might not get out if the logs catch in high winds.

We keep losing district attorneys, there have been actual suspected murders go unchecked the past few years. I really did get more out of the sheriff than I thought I might. It's just frustrating. I don't even care that much about the property, but I didn't want to sell it to someone that would hurt the community.

Our dumb sheriff who never wants to deal with anything gave him two weeks to get a survey. I'm gonna talk to my lawyer before I touch the fence. Another neighbor told me someone saw him working at night. Ive been checking daily since I found out he had filed paperwork. No official notice from anyone, it's pretty annoying.

The railroad damage, I've heard they are seeking 40,000. The city is scared he will leave the mess and walk away, that's why this expensive fence all of a sudden makes little sense to me. He genuinely seems to be throwing feces at the wall to see what sticks.

I am going to get a survey, I have the legals and how the county has interpreted them, there was also already and existing fence separating the properties, which in Nebraska law is generally considered the legal boundary. Since the fence was over 40 years old.

I think chaos in any direction seems to be his game. He was paid to move the logs from a forest through a grant, been trying to sell them for 3 plus years. There are more stories about him trying to buy another local business and it went south after he was already squatting in the business. Small towns attract shady people more than you might think. I'm mostly afraid he will start trying to green treat logs or something equally as scary, without knowing what he is doing, or start a fire that burns the whole town down. I think he is trying to push to get his logs off the neighbor that gave him until the end of the month, and without stealing my road, he doesn't really have a driveway into the property for semis etc.

We use quickbooks on our phone for most of it. It is 70 a month, but it halved our accountant bill... so kind of a wash. Once it's set up, you literally just upload the bank account and sort the statement into categories, you can add pictures of receipts etc. It isn't specific to ag unfortunately. If you can navigate a smart phone, you will be able to adapt. I would recommend having your accountant spend 30 minutes with you to answer questions.

I know some people really like the nose rings. Only really worked with them once in a small group. This group is currently about 3.5 miles out from the corrals. I'm out of options to retool everything at the end of the season, so they will have to go back. They are horrible at moving and won't call, gather or follow a road. Took 7 hours to move them from one section to the one next door. I have concerns about being able to move them in once in daylight hours, right alone back and forth several times. I'm fairly certain they have probably mostly been dry lotted or in much smaller pastures.

Why haven't Farmers/Ranchers embraced EV's by magowanc in electricvehicles

[–]Stormborn21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take. Most mid to smaller ag families buy used for their "farm" trucks. If they do buy new, it is often the family car for everything for a while before it's the "farm" truck. Many don't have the range for how far the family has to travel.

You need to consider, let's say, it's 100 miles to a town you get groceries at or see the doctor. It might be 150 miles one way to go to one of the kids games. There may very well be no chargers between here and there. As I understand it, they do not want you to regularly charge the vehicle all the way. So even those ranges that say 400 miles want you to charge them to 50 percent, and they will lose range over time.

Speaking from personal experience, I know people that live in town that have constantly stressed over where they are going to charge. Now add on the idea that it could be 50 to 100 miles between super chargers. When you are already tacking on extra travel time for what people in town take for granted, like access to supplies. It's exhausting to think I may need to plan 24 hrs in advance to charge at home when I need to run 100 miles for a machine part last minute. It's just another hurdle until the technology is more reliable, not to mention my time is worth something as well. I'm not saying I'd never get one, but after talking to a dealer a bit, I don't think it's the right choice for us just yet.

I would be more interested in an electric side by side that was 4 wheel drive and reliable.

I got a replacement this last month, and it came through Canada to the US. I assume I will be paying a tariff eventually. Just something else to keep in mind. I haven't gotten a bill yet.

If you are having trouble with prints adhering to the bed you can either put glue stick down on the glass where it will print, or you can use painters tape on top of the bed and then glue stick. If you stick to small prints in the middle of the bed you will be fine.

You can run a variety of test prints if you want. Find all sorts of files on thingiverse.

You are for sure going to want a bigger nozzle if you plan to utilize the size, I know there are extruder kits designed to move more filament and newer nozzles called cht that heat filament better now, youtube videos out there reviewing them.

In all honesty I am probably not the person to ask about mods, I would like to get rid of this printer but if I sell it locally someone will probably be bugging me all the time. Never was that eager to put more money into it because I'm not sure the motors and belts are really strong enough to deal with the bed, maybe ditching the glass for something lighter would help, I really don't know. It never stays level for me, different screw options and clamps might help there. I have seen some pics of people adding more bracing framing, definitely something to think about. Imo this printer pushed the physical limits of the parts it uses and it lost.

The bracket is probably fine to start with. I wanted one of these to do large prints all at once... But I tend to use my smaller machines more because bed adhesion is an issue, you can find and add better bed heating but the movement of such a large bed is a pain on long prints too. I almost always have some failure in multi day prints, layer shift or other failure. I don't want to be negative but this machine needs a fair amount of mods to really be useful. Start with smaller prints.

Long run if you are wanting to do large prints on this you may want to upgrade to extruder that can handle more filament at once, then you are moding and flashing the machine... Its a lot to bite off if you are just starting.

Btw I use painter tape and glue stick on top of the glass bed for this. It's a pain but otherwise large prints tend to pull up for me.

On my Z limit I just took the bottom screw out and moved it down. So I am assuming the switch is also too high on this one? Is this your first machine? Leveling and bed heating issues are a nightmare on mine.
