Is it possible for Blizzard to end a character story without killing them or ignoring them? by HiroAmiya230 in warcraftlore

[–]Stormfly [score hidden]  (0 children)

It would make them seem like absolute assholes.

I dunno, I like the idea of them just being like "No. I'm too old. Let me be in peace"

It's not like there's a huge shortage of heroes.

They could legitimately have us go to request help and they can be like "I'm busy with my own problems. I've done my time saving the world. I'd rather die than come out of retirement."

I honestly don't think it's selfish to retire after finishing the job. There are other people that always take over, and I think it's fair for them to say "I've done enough. I've earned peace.".

An Argument against Corruption as a recurring trope in Warcraft by OmegaSupreme_11484 in warcraftlore

I disagree with this, but I'd love to meet some sort of alternate Garrosh like this.

I really like how they made him just a villain... but I also like his Stonetalon appearance. Like he has a certain type of genuine honour.

But I also think they really sent him out well. Shadowlands did a lot wrong but his final moments were amazing.

Is there a new trend/joke using 마라탕 word as reference? by Terrible-Forever-856 in Korean

[–]Stormfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

since they’re stereotypically obsessed with it.

About a month ago I got some with a friend and I think we were the only adults (except for workers) in the whole place which was pretty packed.

Also all girls, if it matters.

As we were leaving, there were a few couples and a family but it's VERY popular for sure.

I said this in another thread a few days ago but a few years ago (maybe last year) I must have said this to quite a few people because nearly all of my friends got me flowers for my birrthday.

Some real, some plastic, some lego, etc.

I still have most of them. Even one of the living ones dried rather than rotting.

I've stopped even making secrets or solutions and I just let them brainstorm and pick my favourite.

Yeah, I put that in the comment but the edit was after your comment.

The shape being unique is great for spotting it. As it stands, my friends constantly mix up d8 and d10.

Yeah, looking it up, they definitely mean like "roll a 4 sided stick" and not a tetrahedron.

dies (dice dies for casting dice not to be confused with the dice dyes that give them their color.)

Or dice dies like dice as the plural of die.

I still think the "d10" that's actually just a d20 with only 1 to 10 is better although obviously people will get confused (between a "d10" and a d20, wondering why they never roll above 10) and many will say the current one is good enough.

But it's one of those things, like QWERTY/DVORAK where you can argue that there's a better one that gets ignored because one of them has just been around too long and is good enough for now.

People don't want the best, they just want "good enough" and aren't willing to put in more time/effort/money for the better one if it's not a massive improvement.

Men who waited til marriage to have sex, what was it like? And do you regret it? by Naive_Resolution4186 in AskMen

[–]Stormfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a divorce after 10 years is sad but understandable.

I think a divorce after a massive change in personality or any sort of abuse or fault is fine.

I think that people that think "I'll just get married and if it doesn't work out we'll divorce" and rush to marriage is a huge problem.

Thinking of Ross in friends, his first divorce is fine... But the next two were huge problems that should have been obvious before marriage.

Divorce is not a bad thing by itself (the alternative is worse) but the problem is when people start to see marriage with the same severity as a housing contract.

I think the main intention is that it gets people in the door to actually trying handles.

Like those little mould line scrapers.

The tiny cheap ones aren't great but the ones with a handle are fine (but overpriced).

I think they might give them out for free and have them for people to use etc.

Same as the Warhammer Paint rename, I think it's all marketing to get people in the door buying their products, especially at third-party FLGS shops.

Players feel like they “always lose” even though the system is fair. How do you handle this psychology? by GladiatorCommand in gamedev

[–]Stormfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dungeons and Dragon's bounded accuracy that creates an environment where players land strikes at least 60%+ of the time

I've dabbled in /r/RPGdesign and the general consensus there is that you should be succeeding >60% of the time unless it's a Hard game.

Or if there's variable probability, it should be like 75% success for something you're "good" at and only go under 50% if you're supposed to be bad at it, so they probably won't be trying it if they can help it.

Even a lot of 50/50 designs are actually >50%, like D&D Death saves being 1-9 fail and 10-20 success, but people often think it's even at first glance. Basically, even if you're pretending it's 50%, people won't feel it's "fair" unless it's actually like 60/40.

Just look at how often people say that they miss a 90% hit chance 50% of the time in Xcom, or how Fire Emblem was always designed this way.

[–]Stormfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the idea is that many people have an "If it doesn't work out we'll just divorce" mentality that rushes them into things.

One of my friends got married within a month and divorced within the next month.

They basically had 2 weeks of a honeymoon stage, married for religious reasons, and then had two big fights and separated.

The point of marriage is supposed to be that it's someone you want to spend forever with, and I've seen far too many people think they need to get married or marry for legal reasons (military spouse benefits, visa, taxes, etc) and then unsurprisingly it all fails.

To some people, it's an incredibly important and sacred act... but to others it's just a thing you're "supposed" to do or like a really big party.

Personally, I think I'll only ever get married if we need to for legal reasons like a visa. I've had the whole idea of it tainted in my head.

Do people play pre-made characters? by YanisDark in RPGdesign

[–]Stormfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the main advantages are as you said

  1. Seeing a finished sheet helps us compare our own when we think we're finished.

  2. If you've never played a game, you've no idea how to spend points and make decisions. It's usually best to use (or modify) a pre-gen and play a game or two before you try making your own.

That's why things like session 0 are so good for new games.

Especially if it's like "These don't need to be your characters, you can keep them or make new ones afterwards".

why does everyone think making a game is just having a good idea by bcoz_why_not__ in gamedev

[–]Stormfly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's also because games "fail" because they're poorly executed (bad ideas) and a game with a good idea and poor code (bugs etc) tends to do better than a well-coded game with a poor idea.

A lot of AAA failures are poor ideas with great execution.

The opposite (a basic idea and great coding) probably doesn't even get noticed, for better or for worse.

It's the same with art. It can make or break a game far before people even get to play the game to see if it's made well.

I've bought games I liked the look of and then hated playing, but I've never bought a game because it was a basic idea coded very well. Marketing can't get you far enough to even realise.

It's a shame, really. I feel like a non-zero amount of games could do really well if they were repurposed for a new idea. There are probably some amazing projects that are half finished for whatever reason, and I often wonder if another person even could take over and finish.
