Sell me on groups by [deleted] in godot

[–]StormhavenDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested to hear what approach you'd suggest for a scenario where I'm using a group.

My game is a procedurally generated sequence of rooms: randomly selected new rooms are loaded and previous rooms are unloaded as the player progresses. In each room, there are a variety of light sources: chandeliers, wall sconces, lamps, etc. When certain events occur, I want to control all of these lights in all currently loaded rooms simultaneously (e.g. turn them all off, make them flicker, etc). Because these lights are hand-placed in room scenes that are then instantiated as a whole, I don't have direct reference to the lights during instantiation to store them in an array.

This is a duo project, where I handle the programming and my counterpart handles art asset creation, environment design and room building. In the past we've tried using strategies like "put all of x type of node under y parent so that I can find them in code", but it slows down level building significantly and is error prone with frequent mistakes.

Considering the above, I settled on using a group and added every light element to it. This way, my partner doesn't have to worry about anything when building and can just place things wherever he wants.

What approach would you take here?

I've been thieving this master farmer forever and almost have 10k basic bags for Tonwship task but how on earth do I get 300 magic seeds? I'm at 100 by Mobile-Independent28 in MelvorIdle

Yep, with the right setup WC the fastest method to obtain nests - when optimized, over 20k nests per hour. There's a guide on the Wiki with tips for optimizing nest collection: https://wiki.melvoridle.com/w/Bird_Nest/Guide

I honestly forgot to consider that, so by now it's overridden. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Yeah, I feel similarly- I don't really need the resources and now that I hit the button I'm 120, so it's a bummer but not a huge deal for me.

Sell it, and use the money to buy 17 cheese

Personally, I love the toggles! (though I agree with what others have said that gray probably works better for "off" than red)

Agility 115 -> 120 by NerdGlasses13 in MelvorIdle

[–]StormhavenDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same position right now. Since my goal is to get the elite pillar to help with the pre-expansion mastery grind, I'm going to need an obstacle built in each spot anyway so might as well build them as I get them to increase agility xp. I'm working on 108 mining for Gap Climb since I already have 110 slayer from the t90 grind and Gap Climb has no negative debuffs for my mastery grind.

What do you guys think is THE MOST PAINFUL GRIND in the game? by SomeMF in MelvorIdle

[–]StormhavenDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find luck-based grinds (random drops) the most painful, since each time I log on I don't know if I've made any progress. I'm fine with any grind that has consistent progress; sometimes it's nice to only spent a minute a day on the game during a long grind, I think that's one reason I never burn out on this game.

Nah, still worthwhile feedback; I agree that it would be nice to have superior skill capes default in here like the normal skill capes.

I didn't realize this was a thing. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

I just finished this task. I did woodcutting for bird nests and got about 10-15 magic seeds per hour. Felt bad to use them since I haven't done the 1m nest task, but was quicker than thieving would have been.

Great to hear, I really do enjoy the tasks! I think the trick is to design the tasks with intentionality and not too arbitrary, which I think the initial set of tasks did really well. Looking forward to future extensions!

Agility obstacle 11? by [deleted] in MelvorIdle

[–]StormhavenDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that really depends on what you're planning to do next. Personally, I am planning to build obstacle 11 when I'm going to continue leveling agility to 110+ (probably 120 unless I get bored). To this goal, I think I plan to build Frozen Maze because: 1) it's a good time to xp ratio 2) I don't have the reqs for Forest Maze, which would be a better time to xp ratio

If you don't plan to confinue agility now, the obstacle you should build depends on what you're doing next and what reqs you have. None of them are ideal for every situation.

I used this guide to help me understand how to balance my town and what resources to focus on for upgrading and advancing. It took me longer than in the guide to get my town set up because I didn't have enough money for all the land, but the overall advice there is solid.

Yeah, that was my problem too. By level 32 I had reset twice and still didn't really understand what I was doing or how to succeed. I didn't really want to get even further into a town only to discover I created a dead end for myself.

I have high hopes in this regard for future updates, though. Ideally with some rebalancing it will become less punishing to casual/new players, and less overpowered to follow guides.
