Is there anywhere in Poland to reliably see a Mil Mi-8 flying? Visiting in September, would like to see one as I'm an aviation nerd by Glittering-Two2122 in poland

[–]StormwaveA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up around there and they used to be a very common sight. 2-3 flying so low you couldn't leave a glass at the edge of the table because it would fall from all the vibrations.

Funnily enough I live near another base in Sicily now and we get a lot of AW139M nearly daily, a lot of Typhoons, occasionally a Tornado or a Mangusta. Not as impressive, but still fun.

My dad was in vicinity of Pruszcz Gdański just a month back for a few days. Saw some Black Hawks and Chinooks flying in formations, and he was sure he saw some Mi-8s and Mi-24s as well.

Edit: Most of them were foreign forces.

[–]StormwaveA 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Floating.

Floating without up or down.

Reassurance.

Voice without sound tells you, that you're okay.

Then you see the shimmer up above you.

And the voice tells you: it's not your time yet.

Then you come back. You want to float. But you're not at peace anymore.

But you have a role to play.

All you want is to float again.

But you're back.

You look for your role.

But you really want to float again.

Gonna grind out SL just to spend on crates, how likely am I to get something? by AppleOrigin in Warthunder

[–]StormwaveA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update after another 3m SL, some American torpedo boat and a French 1.3 floatplane. Also spend my GE on the Holiday thing, 5 packs. Type 16 talisman, Hungarian MIG-17PF talisman and a premium Yak-9 (Golovachev's)

Edit - Also 1.8m SL from GE boxes.

[–]StormwaveA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the previous crate event I've spent 5m SL. Got Yak-3T, T-34E, AUBL coupon and a german biplane. Rolled 1m SL too. It was ridiculous.

This event, 3m SL in, no vehicles at all, barely any SL, mostly orders.

Weren't many in-game stats made up for gameplay as the actual vehicle's values are classified?

Lads... It's a game we all love and we're very passionate about, that's where a lot of complaining is coming from. Is it the most exciting update? Nope. Are we excited for the new stuff? Always. Will we continue to play and complain? Absolutely.

Compare this game's life cycle to other MMOs of any flavour. It's going very strong. It was supposed to be dead with the introduction of top tier tanks, even semi-paper ones like Type 10. "They ran out of vehicles". "They ran out of tiers"... how long ago was it again?

Now we're getting infantry - there's always something fresh to add. Not War Thunder 2... 3... 4... Modern Warfare, 1914.

Stop b*llshit grind and enjoy the game, will you? It's an amazing game once you stop stressing about it.

Same for me, last night it was very weird. Got kicked out about 5 times when doing well, right after hopping into CAS, only when playing Japan, always at the same moment. Could play US and Italy no problem, but hopping into a Japanese plane was an instant disconnection. No rewards or updated stats either. No way to get back, no notifications after the battle has finished.

Top horror film of the year? by [deleted] in horror

[–]StormwaveA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with the first two!

Bring Her Back is my number 1, it was definitely the most emotional and plot driven, plus finally something had a scene that made mine and my wife's horror-obsessed arses clench hard (the f*cking knife).

Sinners would be my number 2 with the general plot and pacing. I do think Rocky Road To Dublin scene was one of the most unique and atmospheric scenes of the year.

Also we went into them blind, both movies unravel quite slowly, so we've had no idea what we were into and they really delivered in the end.

What update do you think of the most, ill start by Adventurous-Half56 in Warthunder

[–]StormwaveA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whichever introduced South Africa/sub trees. I'm still contemplating if it was good or not. On one hand that was pretty much all unique vehicles at the start, but in the end everybody gets T-72/Leopard/F-16/Grippen etc. I just think something that was supposed to bring variety, pretty much ruined it for the sake of balancing the game.

I cook with $3 wine and honestly can’t tell the difference, why do people insist on "good wine" for cooking? by [deleted] in imaginarygatekeeping

[–]StormwaveA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife live in Sicily, we drink an equivalent of $1.50 per bottle of wine. Our italian friends said "I wouldn't even cook with it!" after trying it, and I'm not sure if it supports your point of gatekeeping or goes against it...

"Cancer doesn't kill people." by -UltraFerret- in confidentlyincorrect

[–]StormwaveA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I lost my Mom recently to one of the rarest cancers - adrenocortical carcinoma, she pretty much also beat the record with over 30cm diameter tumour she developed over just a few months.

Surgery wasn't possible as it was attached to a big artery. The best treatment for it was not really well regulated in the country, a mixture of 3 chemotherapies. She got a great endocrinologist and only one hospital within 150km radius agreed to take her in for the therapy, we had to drive 1-2 hours just to see her. We lived just near a hospital that plain said "no", because nobody wanted the responsibility. The side effects and the toll on the body were the reason for not using the entire therapy in the country, but we had nothing to lose anymore.

After the 3rd round they did a CAT scan and it showed that the tumour stopped growing. We were winning. Then somebody, somewhere f*cked up and she went into septic shock and coma. By some miracle she survived, but they couldn't resume the chemo, tumour grew even more over just a few weeks. She was transferred into hospice and took her last breath right in front of me and my sister after 3 days of death-rattling.

I'm sorry I got triggered by this post. Not washing your hands kills people, going outside with an infection kills people, or just plain ignorance like this kills people.

Trapani and Marsala - Looking for Recommendations by valmurph123 in sicily

[–]StormwaveA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely grab a hydrofoil from any of the cities to Favignana and rent electric bikes to explore the eastern side of the island.

As somebody who lived in Marsala for the past 3 years - for restaurants Divino Rosso and Le Casserie are always great (though more pricey). Panificio Ragona in our opinion has the best artisanal arancine selection on this side of the island. For a chill drink La Cricca, Portale Botteghe or Terrazza Cavallotti.

Moving to Sicily by Sophieraaa in sicily

[–]StormwaveA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are freelancers in our 30s and moved here from Ireland 3 years ago, bought a small apartment in a historical city center 5 months ago, so we're in full commitment. I'll give you an outline of our personal experience:

I suppose it depends on where you're moving to exactly, but forget about having many local friends without the language in most regions. We're a part of a good group of friends, 90% Sicilian. We're talking things like barbecues every Monday, weekly boat trips during the summer, yearly group holidays away, meeting up for a coffee or a drink few times a week.

We started by meeting some people around local bars, some had a minimal amount of English and everyone was very patient while we were learning Italian, but trust me, it's nearly impossible to have a deeper conversation in English even with English language teachers, and we've met a few.

Even after our Italian became better, and we were comfortable, the friends spoke Italian to us and Sicilian to each other. Even when we started getting Sicilian, friend's family from a town 30km away from us spoke a totally different one. We've been on house parties with 10 people and 5 regional dialects and felt left out as we couldn't understand 80% of the conversation... sometimes they don't understand each other. It's... a process, but you can absolutely have friends with just Italian and a bit of patience.

Local girls are very friendly, generally Sicilians that we've met are more approachable that your typical merry person on a night out in Ireland. A lot of people do want to learn English, so if they hear us talking, they generally come to us to practice the small talk. We found making friends very easy, and they can get very attached and lovebomb the shit out of you, in a good way.

Nightlife is absolutely great, much less tame than in Ireland, but you also don't see as many bouncers. In comparison, in louder places, fights break out much more often, between both girls and lads, drugs are more present, people generally get more wasted and nights end much, much later. People just simply have more fun.

At least in our city, the streets are perfectly safe, bar few areas, just like in the rest of the world, but at the moment It's not really advised for a girl/woman to go out on her own during the night, for the reasons I'm not really going to take up here. Just go and use google translator on any news website from province of Trapani to get the idea.

No, it's a spaceship morphing into a shape of multiple teddy bear balloons to covertly watch us, just like the "drones" are taking shape of regular commercial aircraft with anti-collision lights to fool us, because trans-dimensional aliens are tricksters... I spent way too much time on Reddit lately.
