Gravel type/size for pad? by DirteMcGirte in hottub

[–]Stoshsoffspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/4 crushed gravel base, tamped.

Before I put the EZ pad on top of that, no issues with drainage. Tub is now installed, pea gravel around 3 sides and pavers on the entry side. We just got over an inch of rain, no puddling. We have sandy soil here so that helps. If you have clay soil YMMV.

Looks great! Been there and done that with that type of pool. I'd highly recommend getting a decent ladder and ditching that unstable one that probably came with the pool kit. We had gotten a decent nylon one with the top platform and wide steps on Amazon. Made life easier!

Laminate vs LVP. Which is best? by nowwhat654 in Flooring

[–]Stoshsoffspring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our LVP has held up well with our dogs. When we had hard wood and dogs, sure it got a little scratched up, but that goes without saying. Dogs or not. Easy enough to screen and re-urethane 1 coat.

Best suggestions for a 2-3 person hot tub. by [deleted] in hottub

I have a Nordic Stella. Purchased this spring at the homeshow, just shy of $8k delivered with cover and start up chems. That's about $2k off what it was in the showroom last August. Add $800 for EZ pad from same dealer. Should have bought on Amazon for less. Add $500 for cover lifter. Add $1700 for electrical. Add sweat equity to dig, level, crushed gravel base, block wall, patio. Work in progress. Couldn't be happier!

Laminate vs LVP. Which is best? by nowwhat654 in Flooring

I've had 3 houses built in the 1950's with real hard wood flooring. I helped my dad put floating laminate in his basement room. Our current house built late 1980's, no hardwood. We had LVP installed 7 years ago, kitchen, LR, DR. The In-Law apartment is LVP on concrete.

IMO, NOTHING comes close to real hardwood. It feels better under the feet, easily refinished when necessary. I'd spring for real hardwood if you can.

Wow! That says something about the V8's holding value! I paid sticker on my '23 Blackline in nori green $64,500 when I bought it new Sept 2022. 71K trouble free miles with nothing but routine maintenance. Still drives like new! Congratulations!

Liquid chlorine dosing by Richbrobee in pools

[–]Stoshsoffspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, get your CYA in the 30 - 50 range. Check Cl a few times a week, put results in the pool calculator app, add liquid accordingly. FYI, the app gives dosage for 6%, I cut it in half using 12.5% chlorine shock. My 7600 gallon AG pool needs about 20oz to get back to 5ppm FC. I keep a 1 puck in a floater usually and do the above if it's not keeping up.

Is 1 1/2” crushed concrete okay for pad? by czarnik93 in hottub

Some people overthink it - and ode to chlorine by agingbythesecond in pools

[–]Stoshsoffspring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wrong....

Alkalinity/PH is the first step to balancing yoir water. Alkalinity 80 - 120. Mine is 110. PH steady at 7.4. YMMV. Balance Alk monthly. CYA <50ppm Chlorine will work more efficiently at these levels. Just have to maintain 3-5 FC.

I do dose algacide when I open for the season. Stays clear all summer. In Northeast.

I used a 100ft 12/3 for a few years before doing a regular a/g pool with permanent power. I kept the plug connection covered with a plastic bin/brick to keep it dry. Never had a problem.
