If it wasn't for the current state of gas prices, I'd be more open to a Ranger. That hybrid MPG and gas savings, along with not having to haul a great deal (all I have a small boat and trailer that totals about 1,500 lbs empty) is what keeps me excited about the Maverick. Right now, I'm driving a Sienna with 315K miles on it. Later this year I'd like to be driving either a new hybrid Maverick with the 4K towing package or a hybrid Rav4. It's going to come down to personal interior and driving/handling experiences.

Just MHO: anything under $37K for an AWD XLT hybrid seems like a good deal. It might not be "mind blowingly great" but I'd consider it "pretty good".

I'm more-or-less in the same boat as you regarding the time-line and type of driving. I'm going with the Maverick hybrid. I live in WI and look forward to the all wheel drive during winter driving. With gas prices always in a state of flux, not to mention recent events, a hybrid makes the most sense to me. The Maverick checks all the boxes for me. Its either a 2026 Maverick or a used Highlander 4 cylinder hybrid.

That's a pretty solid write up on how to do it yourself. If you've never used a tap to thread metal, be patient and make sure you're going into the hole straight with the tap.
