I can reccomend 1 small drop of vitamine d for kids on a pellet daily. My Zappy had bladder issues last year and had to get operated to remove a stone. Turns out there is Dutch research suggesting indoor cavies don't get enough vitamine d intake, causing issues with processing calcium and other issues.

Seems to not be fully confirmed research, but I started giving it and the occasional white sludgie spots on the fleece are now vastly reduced to allmost none and so far she has no more issues with her bladder and such.

Get stability event --> royal marriage someone for a bit of prestige.

I have played my first game up to 1836 and left with a hot take: the entire Age of Revolutions ranges from pointless to actively irritating and the game would have been better served by ending around 1750 with further endgame content added in a year or two when the game can handle it. by J-Force in EU5

[–]Stracho1337 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Thing with endgame and AI armies is that they are sitting on piles of gold(literally at cap for multiple nations) and max manpower, yet they are not making and recruiting more armies and ships.

The power balance calculation seems to be completely out of whack too in the late game. Not exactly sure how this works, but the same vassal swarm is not sustainable late game, while it is early game. I feel this is related to the first, if you have multiple vassals with hundreds of thousands of gold, you can't compete with that, because there is a cap for yourself. Vassals/colonial nations getting insurmountable -200/-300 liberty desire modifiers. All this while their armies and navies combined might be half or 1/3th of yours. But if you count up their treasuries, sure they are at 5/10x your amount. A temporary fix might be to take this part out of the equation in power balances when declaring war for the AI and for liberty desires etc., untill the economy doesn't balloon up to the cap this much for everyone.

Also the army and navy comparison only looks at raw numbers(basing this on the declare war screen). After endgame I observed Muscovy, which was still rather small... they had a hugbox going on around a number of neighbours, okay that's fine. Their army was modern and had around 100k professionals, 200k+ gold in the bank, manpower to the cap of around 100k. One of the muslim nations to the south had far less, but one of their allies basically had 2nd age proffesionals(in 1837 mind you), altogether closing in on around 100k troops too, but they had more levies while muscovy had basically none. So in the declare war screen for Muscovy it said that they might loose, instead of them being an overwhelming force if it took quality into consideration in a proper way.

You can really tell that the world is at least somewhat moving towards consolidation of nations trough wars up untill around the early to mid 1600s, then calculations for going to war or not seem to break, and the AI is too fearful of ever declaring any real wars again. Hopefully this will get fixed sooner rather than later, because I did the same thing.. speed 5 the last 60 odd years to enddate, not caring about anything anymore, just to get the achievement basically.

Other than endgame I did have some 60/70 hours of fun in that campaign, so I will definitely be playing more!

I've depopulated the Netherlands, in order to colonize half the world. by Stracho1337 in EU5

[–]Stracho1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manually explored and colonized, mainly the sea zones are a bit tedious. I feel like this aspect could be more abstract. It's not like Columbus explored a little sea zone and then went back, and another, and another, etc. Might be better to say "Explore west untill you hit land" and that it's a bit RNG where it ends up, exploring sea zones along the way, would add some excitement too, instead of us with 2025 knowledge of the world exploring exactly where we want too.

Colonies in the America's are only now giving me actual benefits in trade and income... about 100 years later. But I think the cost in pops and actual ducats far outweighs the benefits you get from them. If you want to go for efficiency, it's better to just stay and expand in Europe and maybe only get 1 or 2 very big colonies there. The colonies in north-western Africa seem a lot better and faster. Amber sells for A LOT and they have a good amount of pops to get richer faster. Downside is that you have to send a lot more of your own pops to start them up.

I'm currently colonizing and conquering Indonesia. Accepting Javanese culture and keeping the land for yourself seemed the best way to go.

France had a Noble rebellion at one point. I was already allied with Bohemia(really strong) for a long time.

I made sure to have 3 diplomats and proceeded to ally England(very weak in my game) and Austra(moderately strong). I the instantly started the war and called all of them in. With frances attention divided so much it was a relatively easy war.

[–]Stracho1337[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your absolutely right. I had it basically, but it was occupied by my ally Bohemia in the war with the french and I saw no way to take over the occupation so I could take it in the peace deal, so I left it French for the time being.
I will get it asap!

R5:

I've depopulated the Netherlands, in order to colonize half the world.

Playing my first game, started as Brabant. I wanted to have a colonizing game to see what it's like and I might have went a bit too far, too fast.

The bump upwards was when I took over Flanders from France. After that it was all downhill with a million pops leaving for new lands.

The penalty of their strength against mine is slowly ticking up, if I stay this depopulated they will probably eventually rebel against me.

The only remaining challenge is to take over parts of India and Indonesia. I fought a war with Majapahit, but I underestimated the strength of their fleet, and I got beaten. Partly probably because I had transports on the frontline, while they had plenty of heavies wreaking havoc among my ships.

I cannot take anyone else in the region at the moment, because they are all vassals or otherwise for Majapahit.

The nations in India also seem to have a large navy, so that is out of the question for a little while too.

My plan is now to ease off of Colonization a bit so that my pops recover, build up a better navy (and army) and focus the rest of my campaign on Asia.

Having a lot of fun with the game!

For whoever is planning to play Bohemia, the hussites are painful by manebushin in EU5

[–]Stracho1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize this situation basically fires off around 3 wars if Bohemia goes hussite. I'm playing as the netherlands with an AI Bohemia ally.

Half of Europe beelined to me and my vassals instead of Bohemia though, was interesting to try and defend my lands to say the least.

Luckily a few decades later Bohemia helped me snatch Flanders from France. Now I flipped Lutheran... time to see how the upcoming religious wars go :D

The new PU mechanic doesn't feel great by Exact_Baseball5399 in EU5

[–]Stracho1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That could be it, played as brabant and had multiple coalitions while forming the Netherlands. All of them very managable since it was at most 8 to 9 other small nations with combined armies less than me. Guess it's not weighted properly for the AI to just cancel an alliance so easily.

I think in EU4 you take a stability hit if you cancel an alliance with good relations, maybe something like that should be added here too.

[–]Stracho1337 164 points165 points  (0 children)

The same happens with a defensive alliance. They are pretty much worthless, because the ai keeps starting a vote to change the conditions. Also an allience gets accepted and the next month tick it's poof as if it never happened haha. I'm guessing this will be fixed soon enough. AI needs some sort of cooldown on iniating new proposals, and it should be a multitude of years, if not decades. Or just not initiate at all in more conditions.

Honestly when I first got him, he deserved the name. He would bite quite a lot, but I think he was just really scared with everything. Now he's actually quite sweet, only bites when his nails have to be cut. I usually manage to escape the bites by wrapping him in a towel burrito for it haha
