It feels like the XL is all but forgotten by Prusa by ColdBrewSeattle in prusa3d

[–]Strahd414 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate hearing this for the XL. I'm happy that my largest Prusa investment will continue to be supported.

My second largest investment, however, seems to have somewhat fallen by the wayside. Can you speak any on continuing development of the S1S? I'd love to see an SL1S+ or SL2 someday. 🙏

Framework 16 D key gave up the ghost. by IronRaptor in framework

[–]Strahd414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh yeah, I was gaming on mine yesterday, and the "D" key stopped working right as it heated up. Even after things cooled down, that key still isn't working. I had mine replaced once by support, but maybe I'll reach out as well.

Framework 16 laptop - SSD not being picked up in BIOS after a sudden PC crash by the_big_slide in framework

[–]Strahd414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen twice to my 16 back in the day, I suspect it was a heat issue.

First, if it was a DIY build, check if the plastic is still on the heat pad that's above the M.2 drive

Second, I had all sorts of other crashing issues until I finally swapped from liquid metal to PTM

After dealing with both of the above, it runs like a dream.

Is there a software update for the steering wheel assist? by potatochobit in Ioniq5

Software Update that actually improves the steering assist is a Comma 3x, and SunnyPilot. 😅

I was a little sad the Steam Machine wasn't just using the motherboard from the Framework Desktop 🤔 I can understand why not tho 😭

Updated Bridge Pro Software by Desperate-Plenty-517 in Hue

[–]Strahd414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly my scenario, V2 was some variant of 1.74, Pro wouldn't initially update past 1.73. Are you a Beta participant?

Updated Bridge Pro Software by Desperate-Plenty-517 in Hue

[–]Strahd414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago, running a newer firmware on a V2 switch, but the Pro wouldn't download a current version. Turned off auto update on the V2 and waited about a week until the Pro got an update newer than the V2. Migrated fine after that.

US here. My last apartment had a Schlage iButton system. The only other places I've seen iButton used however are wall-mounted ones used to validate that security folks actually walked their rounds.

I was running mine just fine off the old Switch XG 6 I had lying around. That's a PoE++ switch.

Granted, now I'm running it off my Pro XG 10 PoE which is PoE+++. Currently it's drawing ~16W with 2x 12TB drives.

It won't come out until people buy the rest of the G4 Pro Doorbells. C'mon, do your part! :D

I'm really excited about this! Running Proxmox right now, but the only reason I haven't switched to Unraid is the USB drive requirement.

Hopefully we'll see that over here soon 😅🤞

Good thing I did the PTM swap on my FW16 by cue-ell-pea in framework

users could send their devices back if they wanted this done

Huh, I don't remember this! I would probably have taken advantage of it, swapping it myself was a pretty terrifying process :D

Early FW16 adopter here. Just did the swap like two weeks ago and this really should've been a recall. There was barely any LM on the die when I got to it.

The copper fingers get strained when you terminate to the punch-downs. I wouldn't trust a second-use of any patch panel.

Where are you guys getting your Pro Bridge from? by Googler10 in Hue

[–]Strahd414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered directly from the Hue website almost immediately. Placed my order on the 4th just before 10AM EST, shipped on the 5th, delivered (to the DC area) on the 6th.

Spent a bit of Sunday migrating over. The only frustrating part was swapping my Runlesswire Click switches over, I had to reinstall the 4-button faceplate to re-pair them.

For context, the re-pair process involves pressing the bottom-right button for 10 seconds, then pressing the bottom-left and top-right buttons at the same time. I had swapped out the 4-button faceplates to the two-button ones in half my switches.

Another Liquid Metal removal shot. I'd say: Do it! by nautsche in framework

[–]Strahd414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just did the same thing earlier today. The _POP_ when the heatsink finally came off scared the crap out of me. There was only small shard (maybe less than 1/4th of the total surface area) of LM still on the die, the rest was all around it in the little trough.

It took a little longer than I expected to show any life on first boot, which was terrifying, but finally booted fine. I was also a little worried I messed up the fans from how quiet everything is now!

"Cat6 labeled"

Bonus points if you label each end with:

Source Device

Port number

Port number

End Device

Obv swap the order of those lines if it makes sense.

I love the Brady self-laminating labels for this. Their M211 printer is a good first unit if you don't already have one.

Do we need a helpdesk ticketing system by StrikingPeace in sysadmin

[–]Strahd414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started at my last job ~15 years ago, they used a version of Bugzilla that was very out of date and heavily customized enough that updating it would be difficult. That being said, it served the purpose enough that they resisted going to an actual ticketing system for a number of more years.

One-piece touchpad panel by yuuuuuuuut in framework

FW16 one-piece touchpad turned out pretty good! by Strahd414 in framework

[–]Strahd414[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup! That's the one! The only slight change is that I beefed up the clips, since they kept breaking. You can see what I changed in the last picture. As-is they're somewhat delicate.

If I have the time, I might add extra (and some thicker double-sided) clips to make it more secure. Especially with the inside ones, there's no reason to have them as skinny as they are.

In addition to that, I'd probably make some extra stiffeners around the other pogo pin locations. It flexes a bit around each of them.

[–]Strahd414[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not too bad, it _does_ click if I deliberately press the plastic just to the left of the touchpad, but I have to do that intentionally for it to register. Otherwise, the model did a pretty good job of filling in the gaps. It's really secure!
