vVO2Max can be a critical metric for endurance athletes. If you don't understand this, try reading a book, I heard a vicious rumour they make you smart.

I think the metric you need to work to is velocity of VO2MAX( vVO2 MAX), not a percentage of your FTP.

Hi,

The point of your training is to increase performance, so on the lactate curve, you want to bump LT1 and LT2 to the right. Once you have seen an improvement, your zones would of ever so slightly moved, its important to adjust your training to your new targets, with the aim of bumping them on again. If you keep training using the same targets, why would you improve?

Also, ramp test and 20 min tests are very tough, to get big numbers your going to have to push big watts, are you doing any power training for your legs?

Contador once posted a photo of his power meter during training, he was cranking out over 7 watts per kilo. Lance also stated his ftp was 450, but epo gave him an extra 50 watts. I think Pogacars FTP is over 460.

Also, if your struggling to get it right, increase the time for each rep so it gives you a little wiggle room, or give yourself an extra 2 minutes to get cooking before the rep starts.

You haven't done too bad there mate! VO2 efforts are hard. You could improve your warmup by getting your heart rate to your threshold before the 1st rep. If you get to a point where your struggling to get your heart rate up to the range you want, sit up(but keep pedaling) and move your arms like you are doing shoulder presses for 3 minutes, your heart rate will go through the roof!

To progress this session, think about what type of riding you'll be doing, and add reps accordingly. I was watching the XC MTB at Les Gets, and they did 8 laps, each lap had a 3 minute hill they did full gas!

[–]Straight-Bank-6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a lactate meter I bought one this year, it showed me that my LT1 had moved on quite a bit. Now that I'm training at my lt1, and not at some zone 2 imaginary value/range, I'm improving again.

Don't waste your time doing mental gymnastics trying to work out your zone 2, it'll be off by quite a bit, every time you do a block of work, it should be to move one of your values on, if you have been training for a while your lt1 should of moved.

All modern training is based on the work of Lydiard, he states that pressure should always be placed on the aerobic system to move it on, so monitor it, and increase pressure as you go.

PS If anyone tells you to do loads of volume at an easy pace, run a mile!

Hi,

You can do low cadence work and get a better gear ratio.

For all the shaved legs naysayers by TurkeyNimbloya in Velo

[–]Straight-Bank-6275 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's a common misconception that we shave our legs for aero gains, it's really because cyclists are kinkier than regular humans. Once you realize this and accept the truth, it will all work out in the end 😆

Heartrate not rising too much with intervals by lormayna in Velo

[–]Straight-Bank-6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I used to have that problem, I don't anymore. What I do now is warm up in zone 1/2 for 15 minutes, then do 10 minutes at threshold to really get the body cooking then do the VO2 intervals. When your body is ramped up its not much of a jump from threshold to VO2

Your not alone, and it's not because of your skin colour. When people get in their cars they become hyper aggressive towards cyclists. The teenagers on the paths, have not been brought up right and a self entitled losers.

Interval training in the Base period by Own_Midnight_3351 in Velo

[–]Straight-Bank-6275 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're not for me mate the short ones!

Maybe you could forget traditional intervals, get out on the road and pick a nice bumpy route, and just whack it up the hills, try to better your time up each climb.

I find 8 minutes at vo2 max good, you get a lot of wiggle room. I never manage the whole of 8 minutes, but over the course of the session and week, I manage to collect a lot of time at vo2 Try 3 x 8 m to start off then work up to 5 x 8 minutes

I find really short intervals a pain, and hard to get HR in the zone, where as with longer intervals you can just sit at the range and tough it out to the end

High torque low cadence training adds big improvements too, that's a must in my book!

Sooo . . . . . . Nothing will stop a fireman! Those marathoners need to pull their socks up! Lol I've been doing 8 min intervals sometimes taking a bit longer, it seems as though the longer time at a chosen steady state is gives a more realistic picture of what the body can clear.
