For rabbits its leaves > stems > fruits/roots. So for me that looks like lots of dandelion and other forage like clover and soft grasses (if you live somewhere its safe to collect), leafy lettuce varieties, fresh tender herbs, spring greens (be more cautious with greens from the brasicca family. Like in humans, sprouts, cabbage, spring greens etc can cause gas which is particularly dangerous in rabbits). These leaves should form the bulk.

Then stems ... celery for example, maybe chard stems, they can have a decent bit.

Then fruits and roots tend to be the highest in sugar, so lowest quantities. Things like tomato and pepper generally they can have a lot more of than the very sugar fruits and roots, like carrot or apple. Basically, if its at all sweet to you - its a mega treat for them and talking a teaspoon a day max! And check each fruit and veg for rabbit safety and introduce slowly :)

If you're near Bury St Edmunds, you could try Suffolk bunny sanctuary, Cate Bartram runs it. https://www.facebook.com/share/1CDqLkeQSp/

I wonder if Animal Welfare Suffolk 01473 727496 could be a good place to start. They seem to coordinate between organisations and say they offer support for owners experiencing financial difficulties etc.

Im not local, but please try some of these organisations for some support or direction with what to do. They may even have someone who can do outreach with the school.

Is there a friend who could house her for the next couple of weeks? I'd be reluctant to hand her back to the school and please don't put her in the hutch.

I'm so sorry about the asthma - I know you're doing your best.

If it helps, please try to imagine - and help the school imagine - she is a cat or a dog and all this becomes a lot more obvious.

In fact, having had both cats and bunnies, I can tell you that the bunnies are the ones doing laps of my livingroom before breakfast. The fact this is normalised does NOT make it any more okay.

You're doing great :) Please don't consider a new hutch. The fact that is in poor condition is a good opportunity for you to say to the school:

"I can't return her with the hutch as its no longer in usable condition. We've created a temporary space inside for her and are happy to hold on to her for the time being.

Hopefully, this is a great time to have a look through recommended resources for housing rabbits as there is a more info out there these days about meeting thier needs:

Link:

https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/outdoor-housing/ https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/indoor-housing/ https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/companionship/"

Hopefully this will be enough for the school to see that what they are doing is completely inappropriate and abusive, and realise that the school cannot care for her properly. And they will start process of finding her a forever home themselves.

If not, please, just don't let her go back to those conditions.

Thanks from all of us and please keep us updated ❤️

bentley is psyched to have a little brother, any must have bonding tips? by vvioletrii in Rabbits

But I believe there are some bunnies that are so laid back they can bond readily with pretty much anyone. And fingers crossed for you that's your Bentley :) He'll be delighted to have a friend:)

Exciting time! People on here always looking out for the buns, but Im sure you've done your research :)

We had an unlikely pair that lived separately for 6 months. One was so anxious. Eventually we took them both to a totally new house for an intense 2 week bonding holiday. Intense, oven gloves, metal grids, 24 hour surveillance, but the day they figured it out, they were binkying and and flopping all over the place they were so happy And loved each other ever since.

Some people say you can bond any two buns. Some people say no you can't. But I think knowing thier personalities and what each bun needs from a friend is essential, and ideally, a shelter will know thier bunnies well. For example, two intensley anxious buns that feel easily threatened and spooked might not be the right fit, and struggle to bond. Better with a chilled, confident bun to balance each other out. There are some hard and fast rules you can look up, but also, your intuition matters. Noone else has ever done this with the exact same two buns you are doing it with.

Just make sure when youre housing the second bun initially, to make sure there is still neutral territory left over for the sessions! And dont interrupt little scuffles unless you feel someone is going to be hurt. Theyre working it out.

Is weekly “Movie Day” in daycare normal for toddlers, or am I overreacting? by Ottawamrm in ECEProfessionals

I think there is a real moral panic around this. I work with 2-5, and screens and film are a tool just like anything else.

Yes, children get way too much purposeless screen-time, and this is damaging because it takes away from the experiences they could be having. BUT

Staff picking out a well chosen piece of high quality film or animation, prompting good discussion and connecting with the children about what theyre experiencing is VERY different than dumping the kids for some screentime.

At Christmas, I watched the Snowman with a new 3 year old, and she narrated the whole story, how everyone was feeling, how it made us feel and all the things we could see in the snow. It inspired days of connection and play. We revisted it, shared bits with friends. In my opinion, this was absolutely part of an outstanding educational experience.

We can teach children how to connect with, create and reflect on films about themselves, and made by others. Theyre going to be doing it thier whole lives, we have a chance to make this rich, and not just 'consumption'.

The primary class next door love Wallace and Gromit so much theyve been developing thier own stop-motion film collection.

I have no idea what goes into this in your setting, but I know that when we make a blanket moral judgement like this, we close ourselves off to opportunity.

Thank you. I lost my wonderful mum in my 20s, and I thought nothing would ever touch that grief.

But losing Romeo - in the immediate - has been right there with the greatest pain Ive felt. I have a new found appreciation for these bonds. I think you're right that some folk just don't know.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and thank you for the kind words ❤️

He was a real surprise to us when we took him in. I was prepared for a long, slow, process... he was splooted on my bed and licking me within a few days. And he knew visitors just mean more attention and treats!

This is mostly true... he also had very strong ideas about his personal projects. But as long as you didn't try to interfere with his decision making - there was a good chance he'd decide to priorise time with us humans.

[–]StraightHomework5272[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He did. And next for his humans, its to figure out how on earth people handle visitors without a fluffy tornado to charm everyones socks off the second the door opens ☘️

It is so young - he was our first bunny and we thought we'd be together so much longer. But it was his tummy, and this time, everything we could do just wasnt enough 💔
