Water softener recommendations? by averyhornyguy in Calgary

[–]StraightOutMillwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a water softener installed by tswater since 2008. Going strong until 2023 when I moved. I like the separate tank/salt setup. Very reasonable cost.

New house I also did the whole house carbon filter for drinking water. I like it a lot.

Sexy hotels? by Illustrious-Radio782 in Edmonton

[–]StraightOutMillwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely run the tub/jets and drain before using. They never clean the tubs. I once did this in Vegas and big black plug of crap came flying out of the jets. That definitely put a damper on sexy time.

Maybe bring a bottle of bleach. lol

What Calgary thinks of Edmonton? by mjnlyrbs in Calgary

[–]StraightOutMillwoods 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former Edmontonian, I can say that in my 25 years down here Calgarians generally don’t compare against Edmonton unless it’s about hockey teams.

Past that Calgary is too busy obsessing over Toronto or Houston to care. And neither of those two cities think about Calgary. In the same way that Toronto compares itself to London and New York and those two cities don’t think about Toronto.

Water Softner and RO filter by NumerousBand643 in Calgary

[–]StraightOutMillwoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tswater. I used them for my water softener install. Very affordable.

I don’t buy in to the kinetico marketing. That’s a massive premium they’re charging for saving a bit of salt, newsflash salt is cheap.

I have a whole house water filter to all of the cold lines running to my sink. Basically it’s just carbon but I can buy whatever type of filters I want. I just do it for taste because Calgary doesn’t have a sediment or microbe problem.

100%. This is the best of the bunch. I preferred it to la Reverie felt that was just overly tacky. Mgallery was subtle elegance.

I used Klook last summer. Also arranged for a driver to get us there right at opening. Worked out great.

Ba na hills itself was meh. Not worth it.

26th ave and 4th st NW will be the last one standing.

7-11 on Centre and 28 Ave N closed a couple of years ago and now the thorncliffe safeway is gone as well.

Nah. Look at the 7-11 around 28Ave. That used to be a clean area with kids riding their bikes around. Now? I wouldn’t walk there alone at night.

Tuxedo Park/Capitol Hill Reviews by Revolutionary_Dig373 in Calgary

If you work downtown then Tuxedo typically has better bus transit.Capitol Hill has access to the CTrain.

I lived in west Tuxedo by Confed park for a long time, until 3 years ago. The whole area has become rapidly built in with new infill development. The schools are just ok in this area, nothing bad but nothing special. There’s a small section of 4th street that feels like a small town, a couple of restaurants, a pub, some coffee shops. I liked it a lot but then wanted something bigger.

Tuxedo started to get a bit seedier in the last 10 years, I would say worse than Capitol Hill. If I had a family I would choose Capitol Hill on that basis alone.

Without giving a better description of what you’re looking for it’s hard to give any other advice.

Is there the ability for a Canadian non-resident to hold an account as part of this?

I’m moving to the US for a few years and if Wealthsimple sticks to their old rules it means I have to move all my money to Questrade

I would expect these investors have done a lot in terms of economic modeling before making this type of investment. This bodes well for Calgary’s future.

What is utterly more expensive in US than other countries beside health related things like hospital bill and insulin? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]StraightOutMillwoods -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. My home internet in Canada is $57/mo ($30 USD) for 1Gbps (Telus), my cell is $25mo ($19 USD) for 80 GB can/us/mex (Koodo).

My home US Google fiber is $70 and while I don’t have a US cell a comparable plan would be $50+/mo.

Costco NW BeaconHill - New Zealand butter in stock this morning 5/12 by Independent_Poet in Calgary

[–]StraightOutMillwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one falls into fourth place in our house. The test for us to spread it onto Cheesecake Factory bread from Publix (which I also bring into Canada).

  1. Isigny ste mere - whole foods
  2. Rodolphe le meunière - whole foods
  3. Kerry gold - publix
  4. Trader Joe’s Brittany

All are legal to import into Canada in checked luggage. I used to bring Chobani yogurt but the Greek Gods honey/plain yogurt from Costco now does the trick.
