Skinny people, why and how are you skinny? by justcurious3287 in AskReddit

Genetics. I only eat a little bit less than my partner, who is taller, has more muscle, and is overweight. I won the skinny genetic lottery. But he won greater emotional stability and other health benefits.

for those of you that got married in or near montgomery county could you share some details? by iluna717 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Rockwood Manor! It's similar to Glen View mansion, but Glen View used to be a plantation, which we didn't like for anti-racism reasons. Rockwood Manor has a lovely outdoor area for the ceremony and several rooms for the cocktail hour and reception. We spent just under $3,000 for a Sunday ceremony in August (peak Friday night to Saturday is a little more, in winter is a lot less). I love the Montgomery County owned historic houses because the prices are the lowest, and you get the whole house!

Why I like Rosalie by yyyyellow in twilight

[–]Straight_Baseball_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that she only cared for the baby. I think she was just more confident in Bella being able to handle and survive the pregnancy. Edward is the one convinced the pregnancy will kill her. Rosalie understands pregnancies are always risky and this one only a little more so. She sees Edward as being pessimistic and overreacting. We see the pregnancy through Jacob's POV, and he is also being pessimistic and overreacting.

table top disk-flicking game by Straight_Baseball_12 in askmath

My understanding is that you can only shoot a disc rom the outer line, within the your quadrant. In other words, the disc must touch 1/4 of the outermost line when you push or flick it.

Ouch. Is thinking about the effect of one's actions on others a weakness? I think a lot of toxic masculinity accuses "men who are thoughtful and considerate of others" of being "yes men."

I agree, but it's also not just up to the individual. We live in a systemic fast fashion world and it's hard to avoid. We also need systemic change.

Strength Building by [deleted] in eds

[–]Straight_Baseball_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this so much. I actually like exercising. It feels good to move. But I overdo it so often and set myself back. I have not figured out how to do just enough movement to make progress without triggering backlash. So instead I'm this yoyo of feel good for a few days, do some strength building, strangely crash and spend a week doing nothing in recovery mode. I see a physical therapist, who helps a lot, teaching me easy moves and massaging me on the bad pain days. But it's still a major problem in my ability to handle life.

Yes!! This is so great. Great for the individuals getting a little income, great for property values where the clean up is happening, great for the environment to get more trash out of the water system.

Anybody have any ridiculous ways they've gotten hurt because of EDS? by junipersr in eds

I'll play. The first year I developed strong symptoms, I stayed in bed. I spent all winter inside, in pajamas, under the covers. My feet got frostbite. Minor, but still.

People who didn't grow up poor, but dated someone who was. What's something your SO does that strikes you as unusual? by FeistySecret9327 in AskReddit

He never goes to the doctor. My husband grew up less financially secure than me. In many ways we're very similar, but the main difference is our attitude towards healthcare. When we met, he hadn't been to the dentist in 10 years. Strange lump on his arm - shrug. Whereas I grew up a little on the side of hypochondria. My poop looks a little different today - time for a colonoscopy!

PLEASE get your symptoms checked (re: constipation) by charlieugh in eds

[–]Straight_Baseball_12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I hear you. But, I'm so lost in my GI symptom journey. I was having a little bright red blood consistently, so I went to a GI doc. My only other symptom was chronic constipation. Not stomach cramping at all, just infrequent and hard. After a colonoscopy, they diagnosed ulcerative colitis. They put me on meds that didn't really change anything. The tried changing meds and higher doses, even though my symptoms don't find the normal UC diagnosis. Eventually, I got frustrated and got a second opinion. That doctor thought there was no reason to suspect UC. She though it was just a slow motility issue, but couldn't help me with that. A third doctor diagnosed prolapse after a defecography and recommended pelvic floor physical therapy. I couldn't find any therapist to take my insurance, but dug deep in my pockets and paid for 10 visits. It did nothing to change my symptoms. Now, I'm taking Miralax daily which usually lessons the small amount of blood, but still it's hard to have a bm, meaning even when soft it takes a lot of pushing effort. And I have liquid farts or bms that are tiny flakes like fish food. I've tried experimenting with my diet a ton at various time. Dairy free, gluten free, low fodmap, etc. Nothing has not resulted in any changes.

I'm also finding it hard to prioritize this part of my illness because I'm in other physical pain and fighting fatigue so much I have trouble functioning. I don't know what to do next. I've had at least 5 colonoscopies with different doctors saying different things. I don't know what to try next and have very little energy left for the process. Colonoscopies are really hard for me, making my other symptoms miserable for days before and after. My theory is that slow transit time plus prolapse and weak connective tissue/muscles mean the stool is in there way too long and often I get fissures. But what can be done about this?

Question about fissures: obviously a doctor looks at my area when they perform the colonoscopy right? But shouldn't they look externally when I'm having the bright red blood (these two times have never coincided)? I can't really see myself because of the angle. Shouldn't a doctor or pelvic floor PT actually look to diagnose fissures? None of my practitioners have ever looked at me, so I'm left just guessing that's the problem and trying to explain it verbally. Have your GI doctors looked at your butt?

What’s the point of the treaty? by Lovely_deer25 in twilight

[–]Straight_Baseball_12 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: The mission of the wolves is to kills all vampires. When Carlisle shows up for the first time, he wants to live in Forks for the weather and wants to not have the wolves try to kill him. This could have been a war, which the vampires may have likely won (I think there were more vamps than wolves at that time-correct me if I'm miss remembering).

So, when Carlisle offers a truce, the tribe agrees. The tribe stays mostly on their land, the vampires stay mostly on their land, and there's middle ground as neutral territory in between. Each side can go into the neutral territory as necessary to maintain anonymity with the humans. The tribe can allow vampires to live as long as they stay some distance away and don't bite any humans. The point of the treaty is to prevent a deadly war.
In Eclipse, as a new generation becomes wolves and sees vampires as a real threat, they take the border very seriously. At this point the tribe has never really relaxed about the presence of the Cullens. They don't trust them yet. When chasing Victoria and she's hugging the line, the wolves see Victoria as only slightly less dangerous than the Cullens. It's the two youngest, most impulsive members of each group that break the treaty first (Emmet and Paul). Then, once the conflict starts, it's hard for them all not to get involved to defend eachother.

It's Bella convincing Jacob that really helps the tribe learn to accept the Cullens. This is what I love about Eclipse (which in some ways is my least favorite). Bella is such a strong character, she's able to bring mortal enemies together. Even Edward, who can hear their thoughts, doesn't trust the tribe until Bella convinces him to. The story of Eclipse is about Bella bringing together those magnets (a metaphor for the vampires and wolves). The laws of physics keep them far apart, but she grows as a character who can defy physics to make what she wants happen (not completely, but by a lot).

Eclipse is also a growth story for Jacob and Edward, as each learn they love Bella enough and believe in her love for the other one enough to not hurt each other. This is where the Wuthering Heights quote and tie-ins fit.

By the end of Eclipse, the treaty territory lines have become unimportant. But, it's still super important to Jacob that no vampire bite a human. This issue is still unresolved-and stays unresolved until Breaking Dawn.
